Upcoming Non-UK Blu-ray Releases

Here's an idea.....

For those of us who aren't fortunate enough to own a multi region Blu-Ray player, how about confirming discs from the U.S of A that are region free?
I can't think of a more trustworthy bunch of guys...and gals......

Confirmed:

BLADE RUNNER 4 DISC COLLECTOR'S ED. U.S.

THE TERMINATOR U.S.

CHILDREN OF THE CORN U.S.
NEW YORK RIPPER U.S.
DEAD AND BURIED U.S.
THE LIVING DEAD AT THE MANCHESTER MORGUE U.S.

Awaiting arrival to confirm.....

CHILD'S PLAY U.S. (Though Movietyme have it listed as R0)
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (NISPEL) U.S.

(Far better artwork than the UK edition...);)

Stephen@Cult Labs 22nd December 2009 07:04 PM

Blu-ray.com says that both Child's play and Chainsaw are region free :thumb:

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 22nd December 2009 07:17 PM

Good stuff Stevie-boy.
I can relax now.:thumb:

Stephen@Cult Labs 22nd December 2009 07:22 PM

THE STENDHAL SYNDROME and NIGHT OF THE CREEPS are both region free.

Rob Strange 22nd December 2009 07:25 PM

Good idea Reaper! I'm region B locked too.

All these I can confirm are region free US discs:

Groundhog Day
The Shining (144 minute cut)
Eyes Wide Shut
A Clockwork Orange
2001: A Space Odyssey
Full Metal Jacket
Dr. Strangelove
Watchmen Director's Cut
The Godfather Trilogy (features original mono audio)
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior
Requiem For A Dream (be careful to pick up US disc, not older Canadian disc which is locked and has much worse PQ and no extras... US disc is good good good)
Creepshow
Big Trouble In Little China
The Bird With The Crystal Plumage
Dawn Of The Dead (not as good as the Arrow disc in terms of both PQ and extras - stick with the Arrow!)
Day Of The Dead (again, wait for the Arrow release on this one - it's going to be better)
Land Of The Dead
King Kong (2005)
The Omega Man

Usually Warners keep their discs unlocked, and Fox usually lock theirs (but not always - see Big Trouble In Little China).

Just in regard to all things Chainsaw:

The Dark Sky US disc of TCM (1974) was initially region free, then the distributor locked it on a later pressing. Some sites may still label the US disc region free, but it ain't.

Luckily, Second Sight have released (what appears to be) an exact port of the US disc. And it is a thing of beauty!

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 22nd December 2009 07:37 PM

That Second Sight disc is pretty definitive anyway.

Rob Strange 22nd December 2009 07:45 PM

Yeah, I geniunely think I will not need to buy another version of TCM *says with straight face* ;)

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 22nd December 2009 07:47 PM

I'm reffering you to the B.R.A.C. thread Rob.....;)

Stephen@Cult Labs 22nd December 2009 07:48 PM

Yeah I read about the locking of the Dark Sky disc but as you say,the second sight disc is a stonker.

I've just confirmed these titles as region free......

The Austin Powers collection
Revolver (shorter U.S. version)
Dogma
The Pink Panther (Peter Sellers version)

I'll book an appointment!

Stephen@Cult Labs 23rd December 2009 11:38 AM

These aren't U.S. discs but thought it was worth putting them here since Japan is advertised as region A (like america).

These titles are region free :)

DANNY THE DOG (LONGER EUROPEAN VERSION)
THE TRANSPORTER (EXTENDED VERSION)
TRANSPORTER 2 (EXTENDED VERSION)

DeadAlive 5th January 2010 01:25 PM

Any idea where I can get a region free player and if said player will also play region free DVD's ?

Daemonia 5th January 2010 02:02 PM

I can confirm that the US Blu-ray of Creepshow is region-free. Looks stunning too!

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 10th January 2010 01:08 PM

Just like to confirm that the classic CHILD'S PLAY IS Region free after all.:dog:

:thumb: Pity they couldn't put all the features on the blu-ray but at least they stuck the dvd in there too.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 10th January 2010 01:13 PM

Yeah you get the standard DVD as well. That's why it was worth the gamble....

Daemonia 10th January 2010 02:49 PM

Nice one, reaps - I'll have to bag myself one of those, I think. :)

Any news on whether the US disc of My Bloody Valentine (original) is region-free? I can't seem to find info on this one way or another. Anyone know?

Argentophile 10th January 2010 03:41 PM

MBV is region free.

Daemonia 10th January 2010 04:24 PM

Thanks for that, Argentophile - I'll grab a copy of that as well! :D

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 11th January 2010 11:49 PM

That definite Argentophile?

Argentophile 12th January 2010 07:15 AM

Yeah, It plays in my LG-BH200 player set to any region.

Are you in the UK? If so HMV are selling a Limit machine for just £49.99 instore. This is region free for DVD straight out of the box and can be modified by entering a simple code through the remote for region free Blu-ray playback. The machine can also be had on HMV's site but be warned, it's £80 on there.

More infor about disabling the region coding on the player here (Post #18). An absolute steal at that price.

Stephen@Cult Labs 12th January 2010 01:29 PM

£30 dearer on the website? Usually the other way around.£49.99 for the player is an absoulte bargain.

Stephen@Cult Labs 12th January 2010 01:40 PM

Just checked my local HMV's.Sold out.Nooooooooooooooooooooo :( so £80 if I want one.

Paul@TheOverlook 12th January 2010 01:50 PM

I checked a couple of stores over the weekend and found that they were both out of stock. There was however one in stock in a small branch near to Monument in centre of London when I was there just yesterday.

Stephen@Cult Labs 12th January 2010 01:52 PM

Yeah I don't think they'll stay in stock for long when the stores get them in,especially at that mad price!

Paul@TheOverlook 12th January 2010 02:03 PM

I must say, it does seem rather mental to be selling them at that price. I was very sceptical at first but there have been some very encouraging comments about the machine online.

Stephen@Cult Labs 12th January 2010 02:06 PM

I asked the guy in one of the shops I phoned how much it was and he was very surprised that it was £80 online.

BioZombie 12th January 2010 03:15 PM

I had a check through this thread and couldnt find it. Anyone know if the BU blu-ray of The Crazies is confirmed reigon free?

Daemonia 12th January 2010 03:36 PM

The Crazies Blu-ray isn't out for a while yet, so I doubt anyone's been able to test it. However, going by Blue Underground's recent Blu-ray output, I'd be very surprised if it wasn't region-free.

As for the region-free Blu-ray player, I haven't rushed out for one, although it'd be nice to have. Along with the recent Aldi special, I just think it bodes well for the future in that more and more region-free capable players will come to market. The manufacturers know people want them, so I reckon they'll start arriving thick and fast before long - and I'll no doubt pick one up at some point. For now, I'm not really all that bothered about being locked to Region B. It's a temporary thing. And if region-free players don't hit in a big way, I'll just snap up a cheap Region A player as a secondary machine.

BioZombie 12th January 2010 03:40 PM

Thanks for the info Daemonia. Didnt notice the big "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available." message on amazon, must be going internet blind.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 12th January 2010 06:43 PM

Hopefully their TOOLBOX MURDERS is still on schedule!

Thanks for that regarding that region free blu ray player Paul!:thumb:

Argentophile 12th January 2010 09:07 PM

Its still on schedule. There are people who already have review copies.

Be careful! The Canadian release is Region-locked. I bought the doublepack of HALLOWEEN and HALLOWEEN II from PlayUSA and both are on the Alliance label and region locked.

Stephen@Cult Labs 19th January 2010 11:33 AM

Here's hoping this is region free when it's released by Lionsgate in april.

Daemonia 19th January 2010 12:42 PM

I can comfirm that the US Blu-ray of The Quuck and the Dead is region-free - but, as I posted on a separate thread, it's the cut US theatrical version. According to DVD Compare the UK Blu-ray release is the full-length uncut international version.
