I can't imagine Arrow would see much market value in it.

I think Redemption still owns this one and there were murmurings of a US Blu-ray but we'll have to wait and see.

Once she gets there, we meet the third wheel that keeps the movie going, the always dependable Imelda Staunton as Maude the matron of the school. Well, there's bebunking (hey, a boarding school joke. I'm here all night folks), followed by an 'Awakening' if you like and it's then that the picture really gets going. There are some nice chilly set-pieces involving a dolls-house that seems to move around the school depicting what is going on, went on, or what might have been going on, and a satisfactorily unsatisfactory ending that can certainly be taken in more than one way.

The three central performances are all excellent, but this is Hall's film for me. Mind you, i'd watch her reading the phone directory as the slightly altered saying goes.

That's two films in the same amount of days that we both rate, Deadite. (Real Steel being the other).

Be afraid ... be very afraid.

The Brides of Dracula (1960)

http://basementrejects.com/wp-conten...david-peel.jpg

Certainly the best film called The Brides of Dracula that features neither Dracula nor his Brides  Joking aside, this is actually a pretty strong Gothic horror from Hammer. The current bluray discs are a cause of contention for some, Universal say that they have remastered in the 'original theatrical ratio' as was seen in cinemas stateside, however purists insist that the film was shot in 1.66:1 However, I think the framing is fine on the disc, nothing looks cramped and at this point only Terrence Fisher could say for sure which is right.

Tower of London (1962)

Richard III vs Macbeth vs The American Drive-in Movie. It's bonkers but fun. Vincent Price excels in a more serious role, less camp then usual and a whole lot more Shakespearean! That's not to say he doesn't add a few slices of ham because he definitely does! It was a first time viewing for me last night and it's now one of my favourite Corman/Price films.

RESIDENT EVIL THE FINAL CHAPTER

Wow! This must be the loudest film I have ever seen. The sound system was ear piercing.
This is gonna get some panning from critics but I thought it was good.
The scenes of a devastated Washington and New York look nice and apocalyptic.
The action hardly lets up and the editing is pretty frantic. There are some good set pieces especially the tunnel turbine scene which has a great music score.
If this is really the end of this film series then in my opinion it goes out with a bang. A good one.

Mark Kermode and Alan Jones thought it was OK actually.

I pretty much like all of the ones i've seen, although i think that's just the first 3 and maybe the 4th? What's the one where she lands a plane on the roof of the building and they end up on the clone ship at the end?

excellent with lots of laugh out loud moment's, plenty of easter eggs and nods too other Batman movies and jokes that only adults will get. Not going too spoil the plot, but we have Bats up against Joker and other familiar villains as well as gremlins, jaws, Sauron, King Kong , Voldermort and daleks amongst others. Not quite as good as the Lego movie but still worth seeing but still a better superhero movie than most of Warners live action movies of late and hey none of those explored the homoerotic relationship between joker and Batman. Everthings better with Lego 8.5/10

Up tonight the raid which I've not seen before.

Everybody Wants Some!!

Brilliant film showing the days leading up to the start of the college year seen through the eyes of a freshman. I can't recommend this one enough, I loved it. Joyful from start to finish.

Is it a comedy or straight up drama?

A funny drama though nothing dramatic happens which is why I liked it so much. It is basically just blokes hanging out and having a laugh. It is incredibly alive and a celebration of being young. To be lazy, it is Dazed and Confused goes to college but less wordy and no seriousness to it.

Rottingaway 15th February 2017 01:32 AM

Hardcore(1979) the film stars George C. Scott as a Calvinist minister whose daughter Kristen disappears while on a church uhmm sponsored field trip to California. So he ends up hires a private investigator, the father than discovers his daughter has become a porn actress.

Pretty gripping and powerful most especially thanks to George C. Scott who is utterly convincing in his role. I really enjoyed how it went from his relatively quiet peaceful life to the seediness and the scum he encounters in California, its a real eye opener for us the viewer and Scott's character. The story and pacing keeps you entirely engaged(never felt like it dragged on which is very important to me) from start to finish and we as the viewer really want to know what has happened to his daughter too.

I'd definitely give this 9/10. A must for any Scott fan.

I rented Everybody Wants Some!! from Lovefilm, just before I cancelled my membership, and thought it was brilliant. Predictably enough for a Richard Linklater film, the soundtrack is superb, the naturalistic acting makes some scenes feel more like observational documentary than a tightly scripted comedy-drama and all the characters are completely believable and engaging, so the Dazed and Confused comparison isn't inaccurate.

When it is in a sale, I'll buy it and love it again.

Everybody Wants Some is less than £10 in HMV. Not quite as good as Dazed And Confused ( what is ?) but still a fantastic film.

My Bloody Valentine (2009)

One of the very best of the classic horror remakes of the 2000's. My Bloody Valentine delivers everything you could wish for in a slasher film and isn't afraid to tip it's hat to the exploitation days of the early 80's with bloody gore galore and one sequence of shameless, rampant nudity (the hooker being stalked at the motel) it's practically giallo like in it's sleazy vigour.

For a change, a remake that arguably is better than the original.

Rottingaway 15th February 2017 09:35 AM

Blackout(1985)

A cop(Richard Widmark) suspects that a local husband and father(Keith Carradine) who has recently undergone facial surgery because of injuries he received in a car wreck is in reality the same man who committed a quadruple homicide many years before.

Really thought this was a well done thriller that keeps you guessing almost to the end(some might see where its going sooner but you have remember this is from 1985) thanks largely in part to Carradine who is brilliant in his role as you are quite convinced he has nothing to hide and really is amnesiac from his accident and maybe he is innocent. In comes Widmark who has his best roles in years as the cop(from the start after seeing the dead family before him)utterly convinced Carradine is the killer although briefly swayed into thinking otherwise. Interesting and compelling especially when they show the dead family and see Widmark's expression the horror of it all in just a few seconds onscreen. The scenes that Carradine and Widmark are solid and believable. Gets a little muddle here there but I won't nitpick the film to death lol. I'd recommend giving this at an honest shot once, though for me I have seen it several times enjoying it each time.

Just a quickie... if you really want to show off your Hi-Def telly & BD player may I recommend The Amazing Spiderman 2, shot on 35mm film(not Digital) this is one bad-ass looking BD, family friendly too, Jamie Foxx as the Villian exhibits so much CGI detail it will make your eyes bleed with joy, easily one of the best transfers I have ever seen, if only all modern films could look like this, yes the film itself is no classic but with P.Q. a 10/10 IMHO just see how good your home cinema can look...

Tex and the Lords of the Deep

Mid eighties Italian western with fantasy elements that is pretty crap. It sort of reminded me of those dull mid 50s adventure films that were on tv when I was a kid. Stewart Granger would have been in it if it had been made 30 years earlier.

Sadko

Excellent Russian fantasy film from 1952 with some amazing effects, images and sets. The picture below is from it. Recommended.

Dead and Buried(1981) Potter's Bluff seems like tourist's quiet tranquil little paradise until the they encounter the locals who welcome them with vicious beatings, burnings, and usually horrifying deaths. So it seems..I won't say too much more about that. In comes the sheriff(James Farentino) believing things are just a little off about the first couple of victims that he can't put his finger on. His suspicions will only grow stronger as more victims come to light. Hopefully with the help of local mortician(Jack Albertson)things will become clearer and he will solve this mystery. Solid work from Farentino here. The kills are delightful. This is one underrated, atmospheric, and compelling gem.

Cover Girl (1944)

The inimitable Rita Hayworth and the amazing Gene Kelly star in this 'Golden Era of Hollywood' musical set in New York and Brooklyn. The questionable plot centres around Rita's character Rusty going after fame and fortune and to live out her dream of dancing on a Broadway stage, however jealous boyfriend Danny (Gene Kelly) uses a bit of subtle emotional blackmail to try and keep her for himself. However plot aside, this is a fantastic movie, lots of great set pieces and songs and some excellent dancing as you would expect from Rita and Gene. I really enjoyed myself watching this from my bed full of cold  it was just what I needed.

This particular scene was a stand out, Gene Kelly dancing in synchronization with his reflection that jumped off the glass - it's fantastic!

Please enjoy in full :)

The way it was delivered more than the actual intent, obviously he doesn't want to lose his girlfriend that's a natural feeling, but if he encouraged her rather then held her back then she never would have left him in the first place  Then when she was wooed by the big time he turns his back on her and tries to make her jealous that he's moved on, it seemed a bit bitter.

I was looking at the combo disc the other day. It's not a film i'm familiar with even though i do have a box set of Rita's films.

The plot sounds a wee bit dull if i'm honest. I might just buy the old Columbia dvd version at some point for £4.

Yeah, that's the entire plot! It's a 'style over substance' movie to be honest. If you're a fan of singing and dancing, plus all the women are gorgeous, then it's worth a go.
