He was great wasn't he. A fantastic performance in an otherwise mediocore film. The ending was just a bit...hmmm. And Smith's a good writer when doing stoner/vulgar stuff (as well as the more sensitive side too) but he needs to learn to filter it out when not appropriate - the sodomy gag in the last scene was incredibly jarring.

Recently I have watched

Escape From the Planet of the Apes - uni screening - good to see it on a big screen

Night of the Living Dead - nothing to say really

Night of the Living Dead (remake) - really enjoyed this. The same but different - sort of plays with your expectations of the original at times then does something a little different.

Torso - first viewing of the Blue Underground BD. Still one of my favourite gialli - has it all really, gore, style, soft core lesbianism, loads of sleaze, crazy exposition at the end for the killer's motive etc. The last 30 minutes are still bloody marvelous. Incredibly looking transfer too I thought.

Watched Stake Land last night and thought it was superb. Beautifully shot, wonderfully acted and directed. Looks absolutely stunning in HD too. I loved the scene where there was one continuously long shot all set in a great action sequence. Great fun

The tenant (Polanski 1976)
I enjoyed this psychological thriller very much. Slow maybe, but fascinating character development. Not as good as Repulsion or Rosemary's Baby, but still very good.

Martyrs. Excellent film indeed. Especially the first hour or so before the truth unravels.

Watched Gamera (1995) on the Millcreek Blu-ray boxset. Wonderfully old-school fun but without the kid-centric cheesyness of the 1970s Japanese monster films.

Just as a note, although listing region A encoding, the discs played fine in my PS3 which I presume is region locked.

Village of the damned (1960)
Great movie, spooky atmosphere. Liked it.

The children (2008)
Another scary movie with children. I enjoyed this one.
