Gor Met: Zombie Chef From Hell (1986, Don Swan)

A 600 year old shuffler runs a bar & grill to pass the time whilst waiting for the lighting rig to turn up :xmaslol:
A hoot. The plot sheeeesh .... decent enough claret and another bleak wee treat this one.

Fatal Images (1990, Dennis DeVine)

Grim wee thing. Remember what I said about that awful Polaroid ?? Well, this shows you just what you can do with that storyline. Another example of just how free this genre is in terms of closure.

What a lovely movie, keeps you in the edge of your seat until the big reveal in the end.

Recommend.

I am a giant film/book/comic nerd, I used to do conventions, binge-watch tv shows (before it became the norm) and THINK too much about stuff like this.

Liked the first Wonder Woman movie, but it AMAZES ME how this amount of information (and complaining) can be done about a movie that's been out for a week.

The fact that everyone & their granny is now doing videos like this ("Don't thank the studio until you've seen your rotten tomatoes score?" Most people posting on these review sites have seen about three films in their life & I don't think should be chucking their two pence in because Wolverine's sideburns are the wrong length!!!) is depressing & it feels like William Shatner needs to remind people to get a life.

It's probably ok & I'll watch it, but maybe "listen to the fans" is not such a great idea, or we'll have films made to order.

*prepares for backlash

I watched Prom Night last night its been so long since i last watched it. Is it just me or is it pretty poor its mostly a dance film where a slasher was shoe horned in at the end. Not much of a review just more of an observation :jollysanta:

Scott of the Antarctic (1948)

Grueling portrayal of Captain Scott's ill fated trek to be the first man to reach the South Pole as stiff upper lips remain stiff thanks to the freezing cold.

Pack horses are shot and eaten, fingers become frozen and gangrened, as do feet in the intense cold... They should have shoved Greta Thunberg into Scott's tent to lecture on global warming...they'd have eaten her within two minutes.

For a British film from 1948 this looks stunning and the whole thing is quite an achievement

I watched Prom Night part 2 and 3 recently, the second one is the best.
It's attempts to do a female Freddy vibe, as dead prom queen Mary Lou returns to kill off people responsible for her death and is very full on 80s cheese, it's no masterpiece but i enjoyed it.
And it's got Micheal Ironside in it.

The 3rd continues the Mary Lou rampage but is a bit naffer.

There's a 4th but it's unrelated and i couldn't be arsed.:ladyxmas:

Honest Thief (Mark Williams, 2020)

"... and this week I 'ave been mostly directing an action movie....."
Ahem.
Recommended to me as "Taken 5" cough, this was yer average "wrong man" scenario with some emotional stuff thrown in .... boomers need love too it seems cough.
He has his special set of skillets, or something, as usual ...
If this is what Hypocritewood has to offer, then back I races to the miasma of crud/ more Everything Is Terrible (3 sequels!!!)/ Malaysian madness (they sit there, mocking me ....).
Ahem.

Hellroller (1992, GJ Levinson)

Where we learn all about disabled rights. Feast your eyes on one man's journey through a landscape littered with doubts, internalized dreams and an awfy lot of senseless violence.
Uniquely awful yet compelling, the acting is on par with porn, but the mise en scene is just wonderful, strewn with hubcaps and grafitti motifs.
Great double bill with The Amazing Mr. No Legs :nod::nod:

Exorcist III
(1990, William Peter Blatty)

Where George C Scott shouts a lot.
I love Legion, the novel he wrote as a direct sequel cough, and I just never saw him as Kindermann. Sorry.
This being the bog standard version and not this DC.
Dourif just dominates a rather confusing film. The loving shots of "those steps" seem like recaps in order to keep the audience's minds focused. I was in a funny mood when I watched it, so maybe that has something to do with it tbh ....

A group of scientists goto a remote island to study the effects of radiation . The effect is it's mutated some crabs, into gigantic super intelligent crabs who drain the intelligence and memory of those they kill. It's quite gory for its time with beheadings and limbs being snapped off! 7/10

It's new years eve so it's my annual watch of this.

PROPHECY (1979)

Trouble between the owner of a paper mill and the native Americans living there leads enviromentalist Robert Foxworth to investigate the mill. He finds the mill is mutating animals through the water in the lakes..

Good horror using of course practical effects for the mutatated creatures. It's a shame they decided to go with the mutated bear idea as the original plan was more in line with the creature on the poster design and how cool would that have been?
I remember when this was released I heard the radio spots quite often and sounded really scary.

Max Cloud (Martin Owen)

New Scott Adkins flick. A mixture of Tron, Jumaji and Gamer. Haven't laughed as much in ages, mainly due to Adkins' character, which is a parody of whom he usually plays (think of a certain space jerk from Futurama etc :xmaslol:). Woke AF, but that just made me laugh even more tbh.
Enjoyed this more than Seized, which was very generic tbh.

Follow up to Seoul Station and Train To Busan, where 4 years later, Korea is quarantined and some refuges go back to retrieve millions of Dollars. This is where they encounter a Army group and other survivors. I loved Train To Busan and this one is a slower Movie but does have it's moments.

Executive Target

Michael Madsen is a convicted Stunt Car Driver who is busted out of a Prison Van by a rogue Army unit in order to assist in the kidnapping of The American President, played by Roy Schider. This is a P/M Entertainment Movie with it's usual shootouts and explosions, but alas isn't one of the better ones but it does pass the time.

I Spit On Your Grave: Deja Vu

This appears to be a legit sequel to the original, even though the cover makes it look like it's a sequel to the remake. Well Camille Keaton is abducted along with her Daughter by relatives of the people she got revenge on and follows the same blueprint of violence and the revenge. The villains do a good job of making you want to see them get their just desserts but the Film is too long. When, I 1st saw on the cover that it was over 140 minutes long, I thought it was a mistake or it was like the Ocean's 8 cover, where they incorporated the extras into the running time, but no, it's that long, but it didn't feel like it to me. It did have a couple of false endings, where I thought it was going to leave it at a fitting conclusion, due to the nature of these films, but unfortunately, they had to go and include more. I think that this film did not go through the Editing process.

Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory

Gene Wilder is the titular character who opens up his Chocolate Factory to the 5 lucky people who could find a golden ticket in his Chocolate Bars. A classic film in which the Schoolteacher who basically is an idiot who openly admits that he couldn't work out a sum and changing The Class Schedule, so that there is a Test before the Children haven't learned it as well as Roy Kinnear, who excels as the desperate Dad trying to please his spoilt Daughter. You can feel his despair, as he tries everything he can to reason with her and incentivize his staff, who were frantically opening up Chocolate Bars instead of what they were supposed to be doing. You can actually sense his relief when a Golden Ticket was eventually found.

I generally only have time for one film a day. I used to watch a couple every day but my routine has changed because of feeding and handling Echo in the late afternoon/early evening, which isn't the best time to watch a film.

Everything Is Terrible (2007)

Wheel Of The Worst: The Movie.
For non RLMers, what this means is a myriad of "instructional" VHS tapes carefully stitched together. I'm old enough to remember "scratch video", so this was a lot of fun to behold. Taking postmodern to the nth degree, the source is mainly Murican in nature, so you can exorcise your inner Clive James here cough.
The sequels are ... less effective tbh, even if the "religious" one is rather silly. Ahem. The same friend recommended a documentary ....

I’m the same I get to watch one a day with things like having to see to a dog walking her 3 times a day, entertain her, and chasing her away from the 3 cats, and a wife to see to:xmastongue: house work and what ever other bollocks .

The Bloody Video Horror That Made Me Puke On My Aunt Gertrude

A man is wrongly accused of a murder, whilst the real culprit remains free to slaughter due to incompetent coppers. Made by 4 people it seemed, what with the amount of wigs on show cough. The villain is slightly "foreign" ... though that accent could best be described as generic ahem. The tape noise throughout turned out to be a fault in the actual tape, as it remained during the trailers you got at the end (...must find Ghould School, as that looks like a right load of nonsense .... )

Scream Dream (1989, Donald Farmer)

More metal palaver with this one. A rock singer is fired for being "too Satanic", so she possesses the soul of her replacement ... what's a girl to do otherwise???
Not that involving tbh, though the manager character had some great lines. The title song is stuck in my head now.

The Incredible Melting Man (1977)

A sci-fi / horror film that plays out in a fun if formulaic slasher style even if the story of an astronaut who returns to Earth with decomposing flesh and a taste for human meat is more like a classic fifties B-picture in the vein of 1959's First Man Into Space.

The star of the show is special effects maestro Rick Baker. His work is magnificently gory as the astronaut's face gradually melts throughout the film. The make up is gloriously gloopy and thankfully the slimy putrefying FX are there for all to enjoy. Quite stunning really.

Prior to my mid December viewing of the Arrow dual format release i'd never seen this before. I was missing out!

Ready or Not (2019)

Finally a modern horror that actually lived up to it's hype.

Playing out like an updated version of Slave Girls from Beyond Infinity (Or The Most Dangerous Game for non-schlock fans) this was a hell of a lot of fun and very easy to watch.

Sure this has a fair bit to say on social standing, blah, blah, blah, but late on Christmas Eve all i wanted was a movie that was fast paced, gory and witty. And that was what i got.

This is one that'll definitely get revisited.

THE ADVENTURES OF SHERLOCK HOLMES (1939)

Second outing for Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes.
This time, Holmes is up against Professor Moriarity who plans to steal the crown jewels. The scene where Ida Lupino is chased through the woods by a figure with a club foot is quite creepy.
This movie was to be the last released by 20th Century Fox and Universal took up the reigns.

Demoncrat 2nd January 2021 06:55 PM

Savage Vengeance (1992, Donald Farmer)

ISOYG knock off starring .... Camille Keaton! Ahem. Farmer is in this one playing a real sweetheart just in case you were desperate to know
Two students fall foul of some locals when they venture into the great outdoors in search of some "us time". I could take it a tad more seriously if the main shitheel didn't resemble a partially melted Conway Twitty tbh. On the plus side, there is the ST, which lurches from malnournished "doom" to lounge muzak to shriekingly atonal noise.
I should expect nowt less/else from the man who brought us Shark Exorcist and Cannibal Hookers (currently filming the remake is he!! :jollysanta:)
Ahem. The ending is a lot of fun, what with the ragged editing adding to the chaos.
