1 Attachment(s) Zoltan: Hound Of Dracula. 1977. Communist soldiers in Transylvania release the pet that belonged to Count Dracula which releases his original owner and servant Veidt Smith, who both travel to America to find the Count's last descendant Michael Drake. I only ever saw this once back in the 90s when Channel 4 showed nearly every Dracula film made from 1922 Nosferatu to Dracula 1979...I think or that I remember and this one seems to be forgotten. By all means this is no master piece, interesting back story on how the dog became a vampire and started infecting other dogs around it. Michael Pataki plays the family man who knows very little of his family's past until Inspector Branco played by Jose Ferrer turns up and tells him who he really is and what he must do. Reggie Nalder turns up not as a vampire but original owner of the dog and guardian of the hound of hell. The dialogue is not written perfectly, but there is some good tense moments and can tell when it looks like puppets are being used. Attachment 241465 |
A Simple Plan (1998, Sam Raimi) A retelling of Treasure Of The Sierra Madre, this time set in the cold ahem. 3 friends find slightly more than good luck when they come across a "gift" whilst hunting. Told plainly but effectively, I missed this at the time and was kicking myself whilst watching it ahem. It's nothing new, but no one can look quite as pained as Paxton can, so it was just fun to soak it up really. Better late than never! |

Watched ASSAULT again last night. Cracking little British thriller, can't recommend it enough. The bad guy's commupence is SO original. The brilliant REVENGE tonight. THE MONSTER/I DON'T WANT TO BE BORN/THE DEVIL WITHIN tomorrow night. The delectable Susan George in FRIGHT Thursday night. AND finally BEWARE MY BRETHERN Friday night. Rounding off a nice wee week of Brit classics. |
1 Attachment(s) Summer Of Fear. 1978. Julia who lost her parents in a car crash goes to stay with her cousin Rachel and her parents. Over time Rachel begins to suspect something is not right with Julia. Wes Craven's T.V movie made just after doing The Hills Have Eyes starring Linda Blair as the sweet Rachel who seems bothered by things happening since the arrival of Lee Purcell and tries to look into her background. For a low budget Craven certainly does his best with tension and atmosphere, it can get a tad confusing but by the time everything is known about Julia then it becomes more interesting and fast paced. 1 Attachment(s) The Inspector Wears Skirts (1988, Wilson Chin) The 'rock turns up here and there to teach this lot a few lessons. Standard HK caper. "...there were these 15 girls who went to the police academy ..." etc. They struggle, they bond, montage .. the whole bit. Whatever I have to sit through to see Cynthia at her prime, leaping, kicking and exclaiming her disdain all over the place. Glorious.:hail: |

Yes, I've seen that one  The murican ones are a mixed bag sadly ... |
1 Attachment(s) Black Narcissus. 1947. A group of nuns head to the Himalayas and deal with other problems that come their way. Deborah Kerr is designated to establish a small convent and deals with the harsh climate of both fear and isolation while trying to teach the local young children and a general played by Sabu. When fear, isolation kicks in there is a sense of sexual depravity and lusting going on with Kathleen Byron, who seems to be loosing her faith. First time watching this and it's bright colours and cinematography is amazing, and plenty of tension right at the end is played out well. Attachment 241474 |

2 Attachment(s) Avengers: Infinity War Part one of an epic story that sees Thanos and his army go after the remaining Infinity Stones. The Avengers are out to stop him. Even though this is a two part Movie, it still packs a lot in and I still smiled when the different characters appeared. The Brain A Teen is sent to a Psychiatrist who has a hit TV programme. However he finds out that the Doc has teamed up with an Alien Brain and is hypnotizing his audience in the hope of taking over humanity. Strangely, I couldn't find a Trailer on Youtube or IMDB, which should have been a red flag but luckily I found a Fan Made Trailer. And strangely this is a Film I didn't recall seeing in any of my Video Shops back in the day, but the Cover seemed familiar. This is a 80's B-Movie and you can definitely tell from the opening Credits and I found it to be rather enjoyable. It has the bad acting but that is forgiven. Halfway through I did think that this would have been even better if The Brain wasn't part of The Film and just have The Doctor as the main protagonist and it would have eliminated the F/X for The Brain (But it's 80's B-Movie so can't complain) However the twist 3 quarters in SPOILER: Oh yeah there is Christmas Music and Decorations |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtkS2vz-bNs A enjoyable sequel taking place nine years after the original , here a man ( Vincent Price) is wrongly accused of murder and with the help of the original invisible man's brother injects himself with the invisibility serum to find the real killer and clear his name , but a cure needs to be found before he starts losing his mind like the original invisible Man. We only see Price for the last 30 seconds of the film and strangely a lot of the time in doesn't sound very much like him at times we do hear his distinguish tones. 1 Attachment(s) Time Without Pity (1957) A decidedly bleak British Noir thriller in which a young man is sentenced to be executed for a murder his father (Michael Redgrave) believes he didn't commit. Unfortunately for Redgrave his alcoholic ways saw him in a Canadian sanatorium and he has only one day to prove his boy isn't a killer. One of those films where everyone is sort of unlikeable. Redgrave is very good as an alcoholic who turns back to scotch to see him through whilst Leo Mckern, equally good if not a bit over the top, is sadistic to pretty much everyone as the owner of a motor racing team. As Redgrave figures out exactly who the killer is whilst battling his own personal demons he appears to be out of ideas as to how to prove it as the film ends with a shocking finale. Peter Cushing, in his final film before Hammer's The Curse of Frankenstein has a medium sized role as a lawyer whilst Lois (Miss Moneypenny) Maxwell surprisingly convinces as a 'call girl'. The Indicator Blu-ray was a blind buy and thankfully ended up a terrific, sweaty, fast paced and very edgy thriller. |
1 Attachment(s) Airplane. 1980. A pilot that is traumatised after the war, takes control of a plane and land it safely when the pilots become sick. Disaster films were the thing of the 70s, all it took was three guys to take one of those films and turn it into a comedy parody with Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges and Leslie Nielsen who were all serious actors and became comedians with this film. Even though it maybe outdated with a few things and no matter what mood you are in, this will still make you laugh. Attachment 241525 |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aQ6vg3JB2U A doctor moves to a small town as soon as he gets their the townsfolk started dropping like flies it's not long before our intrepid doc finds out it's a spider that's had mated with the common house spider. We also have John Goodman as a exterminator. It's enjoyable but not one for those afraid of spiders. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xJu_qJw_Rk John Cusack plays a young inspiring cartoonist who after graduating high school goes to the island of Nantucket with his best friend to celebrate , once thier they set out too help a young woman (Demi Moore) save her home getting into many whacky misadventures. Very silly and all a bit forced but enjoyable, was this not done as episode of South park but set at a skie resort. Now watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih78dz2XyLc |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ih78dz2XyLc Like most Abrams films it's enjoyable and very silly, it's basically a parody of Top Gun with Charlie Sheen playing the Maverick character who also has issues with his daddy and is chosen to lead a secret mission , this actually has a story unlike topgun and the story even has some similarities to Top Gun Maverick. As well as Top Gun also parodies films such as nine and half weeks, dance's with wolves the fabulous baker boys among others. Now watching. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CawVaHxWvnA |
1 Attachment(s) Moving. 1988. Arlo Pear accepts his dream job of promotion in Idaho, what seems to be a great idea he didn't anticipate moving would be a problem. Richard Pryor takes the lead as Arlo who manages to hire a removal company with men who nobody would hire even with wrestler King Kong Bundy or Dana Carvey to drive a car who plays a guy with multiple personality disorders which can be a laugh. Saw this once back when it was first released and never really got the jist of it but certainly got some of the laughs now with Randy Quaid in two roles. What can go wrong with moving does go wrong in this film. Attachment 241533 |
1 Attachment(s) Deadly Blessing. 1981. A former member of a Hittite community dies in mysterious tractor accident, His widow and two friends believe that something is out to get them. Ernest Borgnine plays the religious leader of the Hittite community who believes the widow is the messenger of a Incubus demon, Craven teams up with Michael Berryman playing a member of the community with a child like mind and does have a small screen time. Sharon Stone stars with Susan Buckner who visit the widow and begin to feel tormented by dreams involving reptiles. Wes Craven was a great film maker with plenty of memorable films and creating good atmosphere and tense moments with his films, this one has a good build up then has a disappointing ending. He did create something different for the twist that was done again in a horror film that was released two years later that seems memorable than this one. Not the best Craven film but certainly not his worst. Attachment 241534 |
1 Attachment(s) The Red Monks. 1988. A young woman marries a rich man and moves into his ancestral castle, she begins to ask about his secret activities and begins to uncover the truth about his family's past while her husband uncovers some truths about his wife. The film starts off in the present (1980s I assume) then goes back in time to 1930s where Robert Gherghi played by Gerardo Amato meets his new wife Ramona played by Lara Wendel. All seems to be going well until he becomes very secretive about his late night meetings and phone calls. Even though Lucio Fulci's name is on this, he is credited as producer only so unfortunately there is very little gore, we see two heads fly about after being decapitated, one killing with a scythe and some female nudity. This is not the best film by the godfather of gore, but it does have some good cinematography and a dark atmosphere of what lurks in the basement of a old Gothic castle. This is one of those films I watch every so often and still get baffled by the end. Attachment 241535 Have a good Friday |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDRCmdB3zNo For me probably Burton's best film , we follow the story of the world's worst ( cross dressing ) director when he befriends a aging Bela Lugosi and starts making his movies with his likable but oddball friends. What he lacked in talent Wood makes up for his passion , vision and loyalty to his friends. Martin Landau truly deserved his Oscar for his amazing and emotional performance as Bela Lugosi who thanks to some amazing makeup he looked like him and his performance was spot on . A bitter sweet comedy. Now watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIABFEJTjQQ Followed by. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQWAVkx8O74 |
1 Attachment(s) The Valley of Gwangi (1969) James Franciscus stars in this fantasy western in which he leads an expedition to try and find the Forbidden Valley from which a tiny horse in a circus act was said to have originated. The first half of the film is a bit average with much talk and cowboy stunt show antics, however things really come to life during the second as Ray Harryhausen's wonderful stop motion special effects take over from slightly stilted acting. The story loosely plays out as a western remake of King Kong, perhaps unsurprising as it was initially a vehicle for that films Willis O'Brien but was shelved following his death. Ray Harryhausen's creatures are amazing especially Gwangi the deadly Allosaurus (Easily mistaken for a T-Rex for the uninitiated). Highlights of the film include Franciscus and his cowboys trying to rope the Allosaurus in the desert and the fiery climax as said creature runs riot in a cathedral. Although generally not loved as much as Harryhausen's mythological fantasies, The Valley of Gwangi has always proved a favourite round these parts. The HMV Premium Collection Blu-ray looks outstanding. |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIABFEJTjQQ&t=8s Steve Martin plays the world's least convincing mobster who is in witness relocation and under the protection of uptight FBI agent Rick Moranis ,but Martin's Character doesn't make his life easy , committing various crimes. It's enjoyable and both stars give likable performances even taking into account Martins performance comes of as a parody of a mobster but maybe that's the point. It seems that the FBI must of placed every mobster in witness protection in this one small town. A enjoyable comedy . Now watching http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQWAVkx8O74 |

So REVENGE was as entertaining as ever,Witty from the Wild Geese really was an underrated Brit character actor. And FRIGHT last night. Ian Bannen was another talented actor who was also great in THE OFFENCE and DOOMWATCH. Brit Ekland? Not a patch on our Susie G in her prime! |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eGP6im8AZA Well that far exceed my expectations probably one of the best things Blum House have done, which I know isn't probably saying much. A number young teenage boys have disappeared, young Finney is the "grabbers" next victim a mysterious black phone keeps ringing when Finney decides to answer it, it's the grabbers previous victims. We also have a sub story involving Finney's kick ass little sister who has some sort of psychic power. Well acted from both young leads and Ethan Hawke gives a chilling and deranged performance as the grapper. A few reviews and etc complained it was similar to King , but that's to be expected as it is from his son Joe Hill, a few nods to daddy's work is given with the like shawshank and IT . Also like his daddy Joe has a cameo as a high school teacher. Well worth a watch and one of the more enjoyable horrors of seen in a while , heads and shoulders above Blum House other shite like Halloween. |
Marionette (2020, Elbert Van Strien) This being the film that was shot mainly in Aberdeenshire. A psychiatrist moves tae bonny Scotland fir a new joab ... enough ken?:lol: Dealing mainly with kids, her attention is drawn to one pale young lad, who likes to draw stuff. Decent enough, if not ground breaking ahem, Peter Mullan turns up now and then and the locale was used reasonably well imho. |
1 Attachment(s) Jurassic World Dominion. 2022. Four years after the Isla Nubar volcanic eruption, dinosaurs are being hunted for poachers. Biosync the new company have created a new species of Locus, and want Maisie Lockwood and Blue for testing on. Sam Neil, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt all return to the new Isla Nubar island and it's almost a same shit different day scenario and a small place that is crowded with people who don't realise they are on the food menu. Campbell Scott plays the Biosync owner who seems genuine enough but he has big plans that go out of the window as some plans do. Decent enough to watch for the finale of the franchise. Attachment 241550 |
1 Attachment(s) The Host. 2006. An American Military base doctor in Seoul releases a toxin into the river. Six years later a creature is spotted by a bridge and begins to attack everyone, a man who's daughter was taken tries to convince everyone she is alive, along with family members they try to find the creature. This was a film a I had no high hopes for after watching a previous film about a monster/creature terrorising people from that part of the world, however this was actually decent. At some point there is a bit of comedy mixed in but does take things serious with a man trying to find his daughter and the irritating side of the government trying to hush things up with a virus that the creature carries. There is some good tense moments built up, and yes this was subtitled but certainly worth a watch. Attachment 241551 |
1 Attachment(s) From Paris With Love. 2010. A aide to a Ambassador in Paris who does work for the C.I.A. is tasked to accompany a agent who is set to bring down a terrorist cell. With John Travolta's Goatee and skin head really doesn't suit him but he brings some good moments that can bring a laugh to the screen as the unpredictable Charlie Wax who seems to enjoy winding up airport staff. Jonathan Rhys Meyers plays the young aide tasked with being a driver and isn't sure about the job he is assigned to. This was better than I thought it would be, ok some bits seems to be done before but plenty of action and good shootouts. Attachment 241552 Have a great weekend  |
2 Attachment(s) Troll 2 (1989) Best Worst Movie (2009) WHAT THE F*CK DID I WATCH LAST NIGHT? On both accounts words fail me. Three hours of Claudio Fragasso inspired bizarreness! |
Quote:
 I really like both of those haha |
Quote:
Then there's Fragasso seeming to think like he's actually made a good film and getting ratty when people laugh at it. I wasn't sure if it was all a huge piss take. Especially when Troll Queen Deborah Reed was cut from the doc entirely. Going off the deleted 12 minute interview she was clearly the sanest person about so that wouldn't do. |
THE SADIST OF NOTRE DAME – Jess Franco often made cameo appearances in his films but here he takes the lead, playing a defrocked priest with a stabby dislike of anyone having too much of a good time. Much of TSOND shows him hanging out on the fringes of the Parisian demimonde, looking on lugubriously from the shadows at orgies in full swing. The drab palette of Old World back streets smears an already grotty picture where voyeurism, here personified by the director himself, lends a weirdly personal and slightly suffocating air to proceedings. TSOND is quite downbeat compared with the likes of ‘Bloody Moon’, ‘Erotic Rites Of Frankenstein’, or other examples of Franco in party mode, but the constantly seamy ambience coupled with the imagery of majestic but semi-derelict cathedrals is compelling. STANLEY – ‘Nam survivor Tim, out in the Everglades where life is just one massive swamp, finds that humanity just isn’t where it’s at anymore. Snakes though, there’s a species you can rely on. I actually don’t get the whole ‘primal fear’ thing of snakes at all really, nor for that matter the widespread dislike of spiders, who always seem unjustly maligned. It’s more worms, slugs, maggots that get to me. Yeah, f*ck them. Anyway ‘Stanley’, which is close to the likes of ‘Willard’ in that it melds inter-species relatedness with ‘revenge of the downtrodden’ tropes, is groovily in step with its early seventies provenance and is full of fascinating little swirls and diversions, none of which hide the fact that it’s overlong and frequently clunky as hell. There are a lot of things this film could say about Native Americans, PTSD and alienation, but ‘Stanley’ no sooner puts these issues out on the table than skirts around them. OK, it’s an exploitation / horror flick first and foremost, but it comes on then blows cold on some pretty interesting themes. On the other hand, scenes of Tim expounding his philosophies and getting down and relating to his pets are very endearing, and some of the images are indelible – watching snake guy toss his serpents in repetitive slow motion upon a couple as they writhe, scream and die does something to me. The less obviously entertaining, but more interesting, half of the recent VS double with ‘Horror High’. Hypocrite alert (and I level this at myself) – after bestowing a quantity of praise on this film I should point out that it features some unconscionable acts of violence towards the slithering ones, which is one thing I can’t condone. FEARDOTCOM – One of my favourite horror movie ‘things’ is the pairing of heightened visual style and dramatic incompetence – at least some of the world must be with me on that, otherwise there’d be no money in Euro horror for a start. Anyway, lush imagery and shit narrative are trapped in a desperately unhappy marriage in ‘Feardotcom’, a film I’ve avoided up till now as I believed, erroneously, that it was one of those found footage disasters (aesthetically, it’s the opposite). I’m not stupid, but I couldn’t understand what was going on at all. I might start by telling you that it involved the website of a ghost of a little girl with a white ball who can make people’s eyes bleed, but even a little time spent pondering the finer points of this mess would cause my own eyes to weep crimson, and maybe yours too. There a potentially interesting Cronenbergy but then somehow J-Horror supernaturalism type thing going on with it maybe, but it’s buried beneath a thick layer of cruddy incoherence… but then it all looks so nice done out in wonderful post-Mann ‘Seven’-esque shades, a perpetually rainswept carnival of grim neon and night. And the names – Stephen Rea, Stephen Dorff, Natascha McElhone , Udo Kier… well, I guess they all have a bit of trash floating around at the bottom of their resumes, as does Herbert West, here seen chain smoking and swearing a lot but still only capable of looking like a bitter nerd (only kidding Jeff, you’re one of my faves). Objectivity is always a strain when it comes to any art form, but, no matter what the critical framework might be, I’m pretty sure ‘Feardotmcom’ cannot be thought of as a good movie. Ever. Does it matter, though? Does it entertain, does it interest? ‘Feardotcom’ is a reeking pile of utter bollocks, but I really liked it! |
FearDotCom is great. |
1 Attachment(s) Attachment 241561 I VAMPIRI (1957) I had not seen this in quite a while so was good to watch again. I really enjoyed it. Italy's first horror film of the sound era completed by the movie's cinematographer, Mario Bava. Some good gothic scenes here as we enter the castle and tombs and were a shape of things to come for Bava's films. |
1 Attachment(s) The Doberman Gang. 1972. After a botched robbery, a con man and his accomplices decide to buy 6 Doberman dogs and train them to rob banks without the criminals getting caught. They say you can't train a old dog new tricks...well in this they prove it wrong, with the title you know you can't take it seriously, bad acting, a bit of a country and western background score, a small mauling of a security guard's arm...70s uniform isn't as good at what we have now. Aside from all this was low budget entertaining flick. Attachment 241564 |
