Today I watched:
I Vampiri
It's... ok, the correct length for me not to get bored. Enjoyed it as an extra but not something i'd pay for (or will ever watch again most likely).

Obsession
First time viewing, really enjoyed this one. Didn't look much like the trailer though.

Black Sunday

I watched the AIP version, but only discovered it was censored half way through though. I liked the score and dubbing of this version, felt like a nice old gothic horror movie, almost like a Hammer one. Attention drifted a lot through the first half, but I enjoyed the 2nd half a lot.

Fantastic set, I watched trailer reel, and am very much looking forward to his other works, especially Black Sabbath and Baron Blood, hopefully Arrow can also get Shock, Hatchet For The Honeymoon and some of his other titles.

Gave Phantasm another spin yesterday. Such great atmosphere with one of the best horror movie scores of all time...it can be marred though by the unintentionally amusing bald and pony-tailed ice-cream man

Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Kevin Smith Project, a list of films by JustinMc; Letterboxd

Delaney: What? Han Solo ain't never had no sex with Princess Leia in the Star War!

I was expecting to hate this, it has a lot of negative reviews, people saying Kevin Smith has lost it, I think they're all wrong, everything that makes a Kevin Smith movie is in here, from casting choices, to retro soundtrack and lengthy dialogues.

The premise is simple enough, 2 best friends from school who have lived together since leaving college are having a hard time paying the bills, and are inspired into making a porno by a hilarious meeting with Miri's old high school crush and his gay porn acting boyfriend!

I'm surprised its taken me 5 years to watch this film, but I guess when so many people are telling you it's shit you just can't be bothered. I'm glad they were wrong though, great movie.

Just back from my weekend in Glasgow with the Fright Fest crowd. I will try and write up the event on my diary thread in the coming days but heres a quick reaction:

Hellfjord - quirky Norwegian television series very much in the League of Gentleman mould. Recommended.
American Scream- charming documentary about Halloween Haunters.
Byzantium - Neil Jordan returns to the vampire genre with this intersting if ultimately flawed relationship movie.
Lords of Salem - an interesting mess. Rob Zombies talent falls well short of his ambition.
Detention of the Dead - oh man this was bad.
Black Sabbath - screening of the upcoming Bava blu from Arrow. Great.
Bring me the head of machine gun girl - south american exploitation - good.
The Bay - above average found footage film.
ABC's of Death - finally an anthology film that works. Excellent (especially D, P and T).
Aftershock - a great earthquake film starring Eli Roth who provided a super Q&A.

Now for bed.

Had a laugh with Lenzi's Nightmare City. A shame the budget clearly wasn't there for gore and makeup effects aside from the odd tit n' eye gouge Any of you guys heard the director commentary on this Swiss R2? It's a hoot I thought I had a faulty disc at first, had to fast forward a good chunk into the film to hear anything from the man. It's just little bits here and there spoken into a tape recorder (you can hear the stop and record button pushes), him giving the time code so it can be synced up to the picture . . .

Sadly I only have the ABUK release. Sounds fun!

Yeah, I only heard bits of it, gonna go back tonight and see if it's worth sitting through it all. From the bits I heard, he just gleefully describes what is happening on screen in broken English. "Look out, preety laydee! The zombie is-a coming to get you!"

Plus I noticed the interview with him elsewhere on the disc is 50 minutes long . . .
