THE ABOMINABLE DR PHIBES - God knows why it's taken me so long to get 'round to this. It's genius! A ninety minute gob of art-deco sarcasm ie. death by gold unicorn statuette (catapulted)... what more remains to be said? I felt a strong urge to re-watch after it ended, and that rarely ever happens to me these days. Absolutely priceless (because it's so Price-full) and totally recommended.

THE POLICE CONNECTION / THE MAD BOMBER - A real find from Code Red. Chuck Connors is the grieving father holding LA to ransom (sort of, he kind of just wants to punish the world and blow it up), and he really leaves an impression here from the opening scene onwards - he comes on like a starchy, psychopathic librarian. An unlikable cop and a rapist who gets off on porn derived from his wife's body are the other main characters in 'The Mad Bomber's' bleak universe. It's a cold, pretty sleazy but weirdly affecting film which plays exactly the way you think seventies exploitation flicks should, but often don't.

FLESHEATER - Bill Hinzman's late-eighties NOTLD comeback. It's total rubbish, but I really liked it. It has a really dislocated atmosphere, and, with its cheap 16mm atmosphere, feels like it was made about seven years before its release date. For those who can tolerate the ride, there's plenty of butcher-shop gore, rubber faces and bad lines spewed from worse mouths. But above all, I like the way it all seems to have been taken seriously by the people who made it.

Lady Snowblood

Found it kind of like a Japanese western.

Watched the Scanners blu last night. It's been many a year since I last watched the movie (on TV years ago). The second sight disc looks lovely. Despite parts of it that haven't aged at all that well (and I had forgotten how wooden Stephen Lack is as the main character) I had a good nostalgic time and Michael Ironside always makes me giggle. (I might break out the 'V' boxset again).

I am with you ALL the way on this one. I loved every minute of it and laughed at almost every piece of dialogue. It seemed to be, mostly, an experiment in getting young ladies to expose their breasts and then cover them in red corn syrup!

I love Flesheater as well. It's best served together with the Dead Next Door.

I found that it was best tenderised first with "Scream Bloody Murder". I seem to remember liking this too or would have liked it if you had given it a budget, some real actors and a script writer who didn't use crayola.
