I know its not a DVD but this seems to be the best place to put this. I saw Rob Zombies [/b]Halloween II[/b] yesterday. It was pretty much what I expected. It looked pretty good with some nice sets and lighting but all of the visions of Michaels mother were a bit unnecessary (she virtually followed him everywhere I guess its just a way of zombie getting more screen time for the wife). The kills were pretty violent as you'd expect from Rob Zombie, but overall the story wasn’t strong enough to keep me interested in the characters. Plus a lot of the teenage dialogue was just stupid and annoying. Also John Carpenters Halloween theme was criminally under used surely when you have one of the best horror scores ever written you should at least use it a bit!

As I said when RZ's Halloween came out I'd much rather have seen Rob Zombie do an original take on the stalk and slash genre than him having to try and remake something that wasn't broken in the first place.

Jaws 2
I love this movie...still not a patch on the original but some great scenes. The part when Brody finds the body in the water still gets me.

Death Race
Been dodging this for ages as I hate the idea of a remake of this and I'm not a fan of Jason Statham. I admit though that I really enjoyed this, some great races, crashes, action and some nice bloodshed. Loved the Frankenstein mask too.

My Maskhead DVD and signed poster arrived today! Yaay and my Night Train Murders...2 months after I ordered it

Default 'What dvd's have you seen recently and can you recommend them?'‏

Just seen the Canadian horror END OF THE LINE, excellent. The same director of the equally good $LA$HER$.
Another film I've just watched is Jake West's DOGHOUSE, gory and it's very funny.

Watched Toetag's Maskhead last night

Very different to the pseudo snuff of the August Underground trilogy but still very brutal.
Film is basically about a couple of pyscho girls who make fetish videos and then film the star's deaths. The killer is this big scary lump in a kinda wire muzzle.
There's a lot of porn talk, and some 'humorous' scenes that are more disturbing than funny.
The deaths are very gory as expected
Towards the end I was thinking that this is one of the only Toetag pictures that might get a cert here but the ending is very nasty!!

Also watched Russ Meyer's Mondo Topless
Which I can recommend to anyone who likes tits.
No plot, just jiggling jugs all set to a cool 60's rock soundtrack with some words of wisdom from the girls.
Whether you love him or hate him, Russ Meyer knows how to fill up a screen!!

Literally just finished watching Maniac (1980). I thought it was really well done. You're kind of forced in Franks world due to the fact that there is no other 'normal' main character to identify with, which for me made it quite creepy. Decent effects by Savini, including a rather excellent self inflicted headshot and a nice gory ending added to the atmosphere.

I am thinking about making it a doulbe bill by watching Pieces only problem being I have work at 9am

The only bad thing about it, is the stupid Caroline Munro romance plot! Absurd.
Spinell is a low life, skuzzy, back ally dwelling, sociopath...He's not Ted Bundy.
Munro's character would have run a mile and then some.
I wish the DVD had removed the stupid dinner date scene that Lustig had removed for the laserdisc (in fact listen to the comm track on the DVD and it vanishes during this scene).

Otherwise I agree, this is top class, nasty latter day Grindhouse fare that just got in there before 42nd Street drowned in its own glorious shit.
