Executive Action (1973)

Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan star in this talky yet interesting and thought provoking account of the alleged plot by US officials to assassinate President Kennedy, using Lee Harvey Oswald as the patsy.

The film uses a lot of real footage leading up to the assassination and it branches well with the real life actors. The film is so convincing in its set up that after its conclusion the viewer is convinced Oswald was innocent. The viewer is left with the feeling that it was all a frightening conspiracy by conservative politicians and intelligence agencies to remove a president at odds with their views on the Vietnam war, race relations and oil supplies.

Recommended to those who don't want to sit through three hours of Oliver Stone's JFK, as its essentially the same film made twenty odd years earlier.

Looks like another for to watch pile. I'm already convinced Oswald didn't do it, but let's not get into that

I thought I was watching Invasion Earth the other day as I bought the DVD from Poundland ages ago but found that a completely different film had been put on the disc. What I actually watched was Def-Con 4 which turned out to be a great piece of post apocalyptic fun. There are moments of genuine unease like when the Nuclear war starts on Earth and the three people up in their space station just have to helplessly watch it unfold. The camera work and acting were competent too which you don't expect for low budget Sci Fi so all in all I thoroughly enjoyed it. Would really like to see a Blu of this but I'm sure that'll never see the light of day

Have been working away from home during the week and didn't find time to go to the cinema. I did watch my blu-ry of Star Trek Into Darkness last night. My original opinion remains intact - a distinctly average action film which is only raised to this level by the references to later stories in the Star Trek canon.

'Mulholland Drive' - first viewing since seeing it at the cinema, on release in 2001. 'Lost Highway' is my favourite Lynch film, in fact it's one of my all time faves, but MD isn't far behind. Watt's is amazing, and I really enjoyed Theroux's performance.
Deeply unsettling, bordering on scary, and some amazing use of audio.
I think I know what was going on, in a pretty basic way, but much is open to your own interpretation.

Society (1989) - 7/10

I enjoy films that are about the shapeshifting reptilians that rule us all. This could have done with another weird encounter or two in the middle, but otherwise was enjoyable, crazy effects, will definitely get the Second Sight Blu-ray when it comes out.

Numbers Station Enjoyable enough thriller with John Cussack as a burned out CIA assassin who is given the job to babysit a secret station used to broadcast coded messages to agents in the field.

Just back from seeing Rush....... Um...... Wow? Is that the right word? Yeah I think it is. It made me cry, it made me laugh and it took my breath away. It's not a film you watch, it's a film you experience
