Neither had I actually. But one of the commercial-free movie channels I get as part of my cable package showed it in HD so I pvr'd it. That's how I watched Village of the Damned as well.

18th: Carrie (2013 version) opening night at the cinema. Verrry similar to the orig, and although I never read the book, I assume that's why both films are nearly the same aside from the obvious more comtemporary tweaks
19th: Videodrome (looks fantastic in hi-def)
20th: Nightmare on Elm St 3: Dream Warriors (still one of my favs from the franchise)

I watched League of Extraordinary Gentlemen yesterday. Massive regret, it was so lazily done, almost every scene was shot on green screen and the acting was diabolically bad

I was sort of mesmerized by the endless nothing ness which didn't happen, kind of like if you really were in space and had to endure the boredom of it all. That said you couldn't fault its authentic feel and like space the film has no atmosphere. But I still enjoyed it,although I did enjoy The Incredible melting Man and think Al Adamson is god.

I almost bought this today, but decided against it.

Akira (1988)

Last viewing must have been on vhs (letterboxed though!) so it's been a while since I watched this...

A classic of course, which introduced many to anime, that still holds up fine after all these years and it looks (and sounds) amazing on blu.

I watched it in Japanese btw.

I absolutely adore Akira.

While not my introduction to anime or even mature anime really, I was probably a bit too young when I watched it first. And it stuck.

Since then, I feel in love with the mangas, and have all 6 in English, vol 1 in Japanese, and have 3 DVDs and 1 blu ray of the movie, as well as an A3 of the poster and 2 matching art prints of Kaneda and Tetsuo.

So yeah, love this movie

Dark angel the ascent

Veronica a demon played by Angela featherstone(best know as the xerox girl from friends) has visions of the surface, after her father tries to kill her she makes her way to the surface with her demon dog and pops out of a manhole with her dog in a american city, where promptly her tail, horn, wings and clothes disappear. not long afterwards she's gets hit by a car and promptly moves in with a doctor from the hospital, she then goes about killing and punishing sinners(the demons here worship god) in gruesome ways, while her dog eats there insides and ends up setting her sites on the corrupt mayor. its not going to win any awards but i enjoyed it 7/10

conquest

a very bizarre fantasy from Fulci with a loads of gore, weird creatures and nudity. enjoyed this more than i thought i would and had a twist ending. 7/10

Scanners 2 the new order

a corrupt policeman is using scanners to bring about his "new order". its up to scanner David(played by David Hewlett best knowing as Dr Rodney Mckay in stargate Atlantis) to stop him the way we found out he has a sister and is also the son of the two scanners from the first movie which makes no sense as their is only 10 years between the movies and the main character is in his twenty's, that aside i did enjoy it, of course its not as good as the original but nothing that followed could be 7/10

think tonights viewings will be

wicker man final cut
curse of chucky

It certainly is a great film!

I'm rather ashamed of how I got introduced to anime. Let's just say it's not how most of you guys were.

its violent in places with some very strong gore . Acting goes from ok to terrible. it has no real "horror". the opening scenes in hell remind me of a episode of xena or hercules. there is no real story or plot apart from her doing gods work and punishing the corrupt. i would say give it a go not the best full moon film but defiantly not there worst and it can be pick up for about £3.50 plus delivery from amazon.

anything else you need to know about it just ask

SECONDS APART - I actually really enjoyed this tale of two psychopathic twins. I was expecting something quite 'meat and potatoes', but was surprised to find something a little more twisted than anticipated. It's no heavy duty sickie, but there's a certain level of nastiness which elevates it beyond mere B-movie status. I also liked the sub-Cronenbergian aspect, although we've obviously been there before in better hands. Definitely worth a go IMO.

THE SILENT HOUSE - I don't know much about cinematography, but I suppose doing a movie in one shot is quite an accomplishment (if they actually did that here). As far as the film itself goes, it didn't grab me all that much at first, being quite standard in its 'ghosts and scares in an abandoned house' approach, although this aspect is well enough done. Something gets under the skin as the movie progresses and the darker subtext becomes more apparent, and eventually I was drawn in a lot more than I thought I would be. I'll have to check it out again because I was left feeling that some elements didn't quite add up, but ultimately I thought it was good.

THE HELPERS - Nothing unusual or exciting here, just a fairly obvious permutation of popular latter day horror movies of the so called 'torture porn' genre. It rolls along quite nicely however, being fairly slick and technically well made, with a fast pace and a splash of gore where it counts. I'm being quite generous in a sense, but for those looking for an undemanding way of filling eighty minutes this will do just as well as the ironing.

AENIGMA - Bottom of the Fulci barrel in the eyes of many, but I like it anyway. It's a rip off of Carrie / Patrick / Phenomena and features a comatose girl who avenges herself upon here college chums via psychic means and some ludicrous but effective set pieces, such as the infamous snail attack. OK, so it's not 'The Beyond', but still I'll fight its corner. It may meander and drift in places, but it's carried by its sheer eightiesness and that elusive Fulci X-factor, which is difficult to define but maybe has something to do with weird camera angles, extreme facial close ups (not as much in evidence here) and an odd, dreamy atmosphere. It's actually a bit gorier than I seemed to remember from first time around.Pile some truly dreadful 80s music on top and the result is a clear winner, for an audience with tastes as dubious as my own, anyway.
