That counts as workplace bullying surely.

She has 'expressed an interest' in it, plus I'll briefly mention that the premise to Bobbi-Sue Luther ending up in that coffin in the first place was that she'd lent Chromeskull The Fourth Kind to watch. :D

Saw Superman 3 and Scars of Dracula. This wasn't a bad film, but is not as good as other Hammer films I have seen.

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 5th October 2011 07:35 PM

I watched Coffy tonight. Decent Blaxploitationer, even if I've always thought it's a bit slow in getting going.

PaulD 5th October 2011 08:04 PM

Watched Martyrs at the university's Cinema Club. Good to see it on the big screen for free, even if it was just a dvd projection. Still a great film, enjoyed it more the 2nd time round. 2 people got up and left after about 20 minutes.

I watched that a few weeks ago, having recorded it from Sky Movies. You're right, it is utter garbage from beginning to end.

It's also extremely manipulative, purporting to be true to the extent there were websites reporting the cases mentioned in the film. I'm not sure if these were taken down, but they were set up by the filmmakers/production company and no such psychiatrist ever existed in Alaska!

Today, I've seen Point Blank, not the film with Lee Marvin, but a French action thriller by the guy who directed Three Days Later and it is an extremely well paced thrill ride with fine performances.

did you notice the end credits, it has the cast list that includes the actors who played the 'real people' even though at the start they say everthing is real. It's a film that uses bullshit as a form of promotion and it unfortunately succeeded, it's popular with the 'chav' market in work. I hated the film, an absolute travesty of a film. For a decent Alien abduction flick i highly recommend FIRE IN THE SKY , which is actually based on a real story, or any episode of the X-FILES.

I did notice that and watched the credits all the way to the end looking for the usual 'This is a work of fiction and any relevance to persons living or dead is entirely continental', but there wasn't one. Disingenuous is an understatement.

Back from a serious virus attack.Watched the 1931 version of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde.Really good film, great perfomance by Fredric March and an unbelievable Mr Hyde transfomation. Also watched Fritz Lang's Frau Im Mond. Not his best but very innovating!

THE CURSE OF THE CRIMSON ALTER. Good gothic freaky deaky.

THE HORSEMAN. Wow,totally brutal revenge thriller with a slim plot, lashing of violence and a stand out central performance. I can't recommend this one highly enough. £1 from my local PoundWorld.

Part 3 is very weak compared to the first 2 film though.

Watched Pieces last night. Not bad this one. Though I wouldn't say it was great; I did enjoy pieces of it :pound:

Just watched the sepia version of Nosferatu(1922), not too keen on the score, I felt it too modern for such a classic. I intend on using scenes from this for a study I'm conducting on music in Horror Films, I'm going to add my own music to it as a way of showing how music creates tension etc. Followed this with Scars of Dracula(1970), good film apart from Dennis Waterman, shocking casting IMO

It's the early Eureka 2-Disc Edition, innit? I kicked that one out of my collection because of this bloody terrible synthesizer soundtrack! :mmph:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

Not to mention the fact that both versions included are wrong in terms of colours - Nosferatu is neither black and white, nor sepia-toned, but tinted!

Take my advice and buy the Eureka Masters of Cinema release - it's terrific! :thumb:

Yeah it is, I only bought it this morning for £1.50, I might have to check out your recommendation, cheers for the advice:)

Though the Masters of Cinema release is superior in just about every respect, I don't mind the synthesiser score on the original Eureka release, which is why I still own it!

Seen a bunch of non-horror... proper films ;)

How I Ended This Summer
I’d been looking forward to this one – love a bit of Arctic filmmaking! It didn’t disappoint, a perfectly paced drama about two Russian men in an isolated weather station outpost. The location photography is obviously stunning, with several quietly breathtaking moments. As the story gradually becomes a thriller of sorts, the director skilfully handles the shift in tone, delivering some tense sequences without betraying the characters, so well established in the first act.

Bobby Fisher Against The World
Chess documentary! WOOT! :woot: I know nothing of the game or of Bobby Fisher, but this documentary I found bloody fascinating – what a story! I almost wish it was longer, such is the wealth of interesting stories surrounding the deeply troubled chess master. Sad, funny, exciting - a brilliantly crafted documentary.

Unrelated
A drama from the director of this year’s superb Archipelago. In fact, this is pretty identical to that in plot and execution, and I had the exact same response to it! Started off hating the smug upper middle class characters, which is blatant reverse class snobbery on my part. I actually admire how Joanna Hogg refuses to put and kind of class criticism in her work, and there’s an interesting discussion to be had about the lack of the ‘regular’ upper/middle class folk in British cinema. Like I say, I started off hating the characters, but gradually, the cracks are revealed and the film becomes an intriguing portrait of a family in crisis. Like in Archipelago, Hogg keeps the camera distanced in long-take tableaux shots, making the viewer work hard to spot little off-hand remarks and telling body language – nothing is spelled out here. Maybe it’s time for the director to tackle a new subject, but for now she has a couple of cracking films under her belt.

DR. NO on Blu, good god how good can a film look? Seen it on dvd,vhs and freeview but this is just too much. Lowry do another masterpiece job of restoration, the scenes in Jamaica look so good(especially when filmed near the sea on the coast) with superb detail and a rich colour palette it'll have you rubbing your eyes in a way that a 50 year old film just shouldn't be able to do, never thought of DR. NO as a colourful Bond but it is. And when it gets dark instead of smoothing it to a mush, we get a great wash of natural grain, and boy does Ursula look great in HD:) if there is a niggle it's the dialogue is now easy to spot where it's overdubbed or gets a bit thin/tinny, but that's as nothing next to a truly great iconic Bond beautifully restored. These Lowry people really know their onions. a 5/5 from me.

Slippery Jack 6th October 2011 09:39 PM

Oh yeah, I watched Candyman last night for the first time in around a decade! I'd forgotten how damn scary it is in parts. Love all the stuff with the urban legend investigation in the projects. It's almost a shame when the Candyman has to appear and turn it into more standard horror fare. The second half with Helen getting (repeatedly) framed for murder gets pretty farcical. But the good (including the haunting Philip Glass score) more than outweighs the bad. No sign of a remake either?!?!

Phurious 6th October 2011 09:40 PM

Just watched Class of 1984. Can't believe I've never seen this. A great flick that really surprised me as I wasn't expecting it to be so harsh.
The only downer for me was the ending, which was a tad too predictable. I'd have preferred it to stick with the nihilistic and helpless tone of the rest of the movie.

Can't believe that kid/gang leader went on to create The Sopranos

Watched TORSO on Blu, looked great even on my 720 TV. Man I need aTV that's full 1080!
The wife was shocked at how tame it was, I played her the trailer first and she thought it would be some full blown lesbian porn.

Finally watched SUCKER PUNCH, wow, what a jumbled incoherent mess.

"Mondo Keyhole": Jesus, this is one sick puppy from 1966. A sexploitation roughie that follows the lead male character as he spends his days running a company who make porn mags, bondage films and records (in Hi Fi!) of the sounds of sexual torture. Sadly all this has a knock on effect, as he can't get it up with his sex starved, junkie wife and spends his spare time daydreaming of violent rape...or is it real. Can't recommend this highly enough, sleazy as hell, self aware, endless go go dancing and an incredibly bleak ending.:tongue1::tongue1::tongue1:

I agree with you about SUCKER PUNCH - it was shit

I've had an afternoon and evening of eclectic viewing, from the 1941 comedy/musical Hellzapoppin’ to Abel Ferrara's tense vampire film The Addiction and Erik the Viking, Terry Jones' decent, but not great, adventure comedy and I've just started watching the US BD of Carrie.

What did you think of The Addiction, Nos?

I named it as my Favourite Horror Film of 1995 (albeit in lieu of heavy competition!), but I thought it was a really well-made and gripping film.

It is a well made film but my goodness is the dialogue pretentious!

I thought the performances are exceptional, Ferrara's direction and the monochrome photography were really good, but it was a little overwritten and perhaps a little too talky. Overall though, I thought it was really good and it's a shame the R2 disc (at least the one Lovefilm sent) didn't have more extra features.

Nosferatu@Cult Labs 7th October 2011 07:37 PM

Looking at that thread, it would probably be my second favourite horror from 1995 behind Se7en.

pedromonkey 7th October 2011 07:39 PM

was looking for something to watch last night so decided on rewatching NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, my god this film is so good, Tom Atkins totally steals the film and the make up FX are great too. man i miss Fred Dekker's movies, may watch monster squad tonight....

Rik 7th October 2011 08:57 PM

Continuing on from yesterdays vampire double bill of Nosferatu and Scars of Dracula, tonight I've just finished watching Vampyres and I'm currently watching Near Dark.
