The Halloween film-a-ton had to be delayed until the weekend so these were the picks.
You cant have Halloween without some Universal Monsters the beauty of Frankensteins Bride the rage of The Invisible Man the emotional turmoil of the Wolfman. Each one a complete classic and essential viewing.

The Halloween films need no introduction 4 is far from great but Season of the Witch after the first is best.

Hellraiser i love this series well the first three anyway i have not seen the other ten or whatever it is now. News of Clive Barker writing a new script for Hellraiser has me very excited.

Burial Ground a great zombie film but Peter Bark steals the show from the zombies and is one of the creepiest "kids" i have ever seen in a film. The relationship between mother and son it so so wrong

Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue first time i ever watched this it became one of my top 5 Zombie films and each viewing after that first time it cements itself even more in that list of favourites.

Night Of The Living Dead Classic thats it

Candyman one of my favourite horrors of the 90s. Tony Todd is fantastic as Candyman a genuinely creepy film with some great music and a great setting.

The Ghoul a film that just oozes atmosphere

The Bat i have heard alot of people dismiss this film but i think its a great film maybe Vincent Price being involved clouds my judgement but its a fun film and The Bat himself looks great with his face hidden behind a black mask with only his eyes peeping out and his clawed gloves creating a very creepy character added to that the great use of light and shadows to hide the identity of The Bat.

Trick r Treat this is going to be a must every Halloween from now on. Captures the real feel of Halloween more than almost any other Halloween themed film i have ever seen.

Vamp a love it or hate it film im on the love side for this one. This could not be anymore 80s Grace Jones is great her movements and look really make her look undead but then again she never needed makeup to create an evil look. The thing that hits me most when ever i watch Vamp is the use of the pink and green lights i love the look of that and even when they hit the sewers the whole place glows of pink and green.

I'm glad you like Vamp as much as I do! I also found The Bat to be a very under-rated film.

Last film I watched was a cinema screening of Haxan: Witchcraft Through The Ages (1922) at the Edinburgh Filmhouse, with a live electronic score.

It was certainly very interesting - just like watching a silent film version of a documentary. Some of the imagery might seem a little camp and silly today, while at other times the use of such techniques as stop motion - some of which reminded me of some of Ray Harryhuasen's films - was quite effective and held up well. I also particularly felt the message it conveyed, certainly towards the end, was very profound, considering it still has strong relevance today and if you have seen this film you will know what I mean.

Overall a 8/10.

While it wasn't a film experience the next day I went to the Witchcraft exhibition at the Edinburgh Museum of Modern Art and saw many cool visual paintings and woodblocks of ancient interpretations of witchcraft when it was genuinely believe to exist, including artistic interpretations of the three witches in Macbeth. What was most interesting was seeing a book with handwriting by the real Witchfinder General, Matthew Hopkins, justifying his hunt and torture of accused witches. Overall it was well worth going to, as it provided a informative context surrounding the historical issue of witchcraft and its relationship with past societies during the middle ages and up to the middle of the 19th century.

The Aggression Scale

A brutal home invasion flick meets Home Alone as a bunch of petty criminals pick the wrong house, especially when the family's youngest happens to be something of a specialist in particularly hostile survival techniques. How and why this sulky kid got to this place is left to the sidelines, but it doesn't really matter as it's a matter of time before the young whippersnapper - who doesn't utter a single word - is despatching the shotgun toting bad guys in entertaining ways. A comment on the desensitised Call of Duty generation no doubt, but hey..

Twin Peaks fans will enjoy seeing Ray Wise and Dana Ashbrook crop up in two of the major roles. I also racked my brain over one of the bad guys - Jacob Reynolds - before realising it was the lead kid from Gummo all grown up.

Finally getting around to posting the rest of my October "horror-a-thon"

21st: Living Dead Girl (1982) My first ever viewing. Solid film, more sympathetic than scary which I assume was the director's intention.
22nd: American Werewolf in London & Going to Pieces: The Rise & Fall of the Slasher film
23rd: The Burning
24th: Fright Night (1985)
25th: Tobe Hooper double feature- Lifeforce (Arrow's fantastic steelbook version!) and Arrow's terrific release of The Funhouse
26th: Maniac (1980)
27th: Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) Sigh, not quite as good as I remember, but not terrible
28th: Pieces (1982) A true genre classic in every sense of the word! BASTAAAAAARD!!
29th: Day of the Dead (1985) Still not as good as Night or Dawn imo, but it sure has its moments
30th: Trick 'R Treat (2007) & Scream (1996)
31st: My usual double feature- Halloween (35th anniv version) and The Exorcist (The 2010 blu ray release)

Well, that it, until next October, thanks for reading!

The monster club

Love this film, for me my favourite story is still the first. Also a great job has been done on the blu ray. Picture quality is a lot better than I was expecting disc has some decent extras. 9/10

Phantasm

Still my favourite out of the franchise, still a very disturbing and chilling film, the tall man is for me up there with Jason etc as one of the top horror monster. Love the music so atmospheric . 10/10

Phantasm 2

For me not as good as the first but still has some great moments, especially the tall mans death, for me his best death in all the movies. 8.5/10

Halloween 3

It's silly and stupid but I really enjoy it and have a fond place for it. 8.5/10

Two evil eyes

Enjoyed these two stories, but I enjoyed the Romero one more . 8/10

Amityville the possession

For me this is a lot better film on nearly all levels than the first, very creepy film and well acted. Mind I would of shot the father a lot sooner! 10/10

Tombs of the living dead

These movies have to have the best zombies of any movie. 7.5/10

Jack the Ripper (Michael Cain)

Has to be the best Jack the Ripper film/ tv show. Cain is fantastic as abberline as is most of the cast. Script, costumes and sets are all realistic and add to the amazing atmosphere of the film. 10/10

Agnes Moorhead gives a great performance in this. Very plucky, and resourceful without over doing it.

Flight:-

Starring the always reliable Denzel Washington. Super movie, had the wife and I gripped from the very beginning. That whole sequence where Washington loses control of the airplane was just outstanding and totally convincing. Amazing stuff. Can't recommend this movie highly enough
