Jackass Presents bad Grandpa.

I love Jackass ut ive been avaoiding this thinking it couldn't really be that funny and the trailer didnt help as it looked like it would be rather tame, like when Jonny did The Ringer (which was actually quite good). Anyhow i wish I'd watched it sooner, me and my daughter were laughing so hard at times, i even had to stop to let her recover at one point as she starting choking, so much better than i expected it to be, the Bad Grandpa.5 release wasnt as good, basically making money from what should be Deleted scenes and a Featurette.

Watched these last night.

Run Lola Run (1998)

I think it was the third time seeing this film. Still as good as ever, every frame of the film is intriguing to watch. Really unique style of film, it's like watching a long well done music video. The soundtrack sounded great on the UK blu-ray.

9/10

Under the Skin (2013)

Very slow paced especially after just watching Run Lola Run, but this wasn't a big problem for me. It kept the interest up all the time. What I like about these kind of unconventional type of films is, that you can't clearly see what is going to happen next, like you can with the more typical Hollywood fares. Really beautiful cinematography as well and the ending was quite striking and forever memorable.

8/10

Rape of the Vampire (1968)

What the hell did I just watch? I have no idea... None of it made much sense to me. Also there was no raping. At least there was couple of laughs generated by the absurdity of events.

Rollin's film-making is certainly an acquired taste... personally, I love the bulk of his work.

Yeah, it certainly seems like something I don't get. It's has some praising reviews. Are rest of his films as confusing?

No – they are very varied in content and accessibility.

Anything to recommend?

I just realized I have another film of his too, but haven't watched it yet. The Living Dead Girl.

Pretty much, yes. He relies on surrealists aesthetics and recurring themes along with plenty of nudity and symbolism within his films. To make sense is not always the point, but more the journey and visuals themselves are what is important - which in turn makes him a very 'Marmite' film-maker.

The Rape of the Vampire is a little more unique though as it was Rollin's first feature length film whilst he had yet to 'hone his craft' (some of course would argue that he never did ), which was shot and edited on a very tight budget - in fact it was originally designed to be two short films which is why the film feels a little disjointed as a whole. Rollin also made a lot of softcore porn films in the '70s due to lack of work, a lot of which carry his trademark flair, but are often more straight-forward where 'plot' is concerned.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The Iron Rose is my favourite and the film I consider his best, with The Grapes of Death and The Night of the Hunted also highly recommended.

Go for Fascination.

It's probably Rollin's most accessible work. The scenes featuring Brigitte Lahaie and the scythe are iconic in horror cinema.

Everyone has their own taste but The Night of the Hunted does absolutely nothing for me.

The Iron Rose and Grapes of Death are both fantastic. I'm not sure i'd recommend The Iron Rose to a Rollin newcomer though as it could be quite easily seen as boring.
