Tonight watched..... Memory lane. Interesting but frankly overrated low budget take on flatliners. A war veteran falls to pieces after his girlfriend kills herself. He tries to top himself to and gets a vision of the afterlife and begins to suspect his lady was actually murdered. Kudos for turning out a film that feels fairly professional and tries to do something other than a zombie film on it's micro budget. Falls short against films like primer when you begin to realise about 30 minutes or so in that 90% of the films effectiveness is the score. Pretty much everything else feels like bad fan fiction you find on the internet. Sabotage. Arnie leads a team of semi literate rejects from 2019 fall of new york in a mediocre film where a bunch of shit happens that I don't really care about. Honestly I'm sitting here now and the whole endeavour felt meaningless. The real tragedy is Arnie had a much better film out a year or so back called Last stand that got panned and was severely underrated. This however deserved most of the flak. Olivia Williams is far and away the best thing in a movie that's frankly forgettable from beginning to end. I paid a quid for it and that may have been too much. |
