Again another slow day at work and access to Amazon will do things like this.

That's why I'm glad I don't have internet access at work - I'd be skint!

Stuff I recently bought includes:

CLOVERFIELD Blu-ray
THERE WILL BE BLOOD Blu-ray - if you've not seen this, do. One of the best films of the last decade.
THE BLACK TORMENT
RAMBO Blu-ray

Seconded. Tis superb. I'm still confused by the complaints the ending got; I thought it was a great way to finish the film.

I had no problem with the ending, neither. It's such an incredible film. It's shot and scored like a horror film and there's a sense of impending doom throughout the film. Definitely should have won Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. Not taking anything away from J ane E Coen, as I loved NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, but THERE WILL BE BLOOD is a better film.

Sole Survivor
A woman who is the only survivor of a plane crash starts seeing visions of the undead in this super creepy effort from the director of Night Of The Comet. Like Carnival Of Souls, this one really gets under your skin and stays with you for days. Watch it on a dark rainy night. Released by Code Red. Recommended.

The Norman J Warren Collection AB UK
Inc

Satan's Slave
Prey
Terror
Inseminoid

First time I've seen the uncut UK version of Satan's Slave. Interesting to see what the BBFC previously cut especially from the bedroom scene.

Prey - another excellent film. Perhaps it is a bit wordy but the actors make it worthwhile.

Not too keen on Inseminoind though.

I bought this a few weeks ago, it wasn't as good as I remembered it being though having not seen it for at least 15 years or so.

Icons Of Adventure (SONY r1) this set of 4 Hammer films is highly recommended for fans.Nice widescreen prints plus commentaries & trailers.

Peter Neal 14th June 2008 06:37 PM

The R2 "Gruesome Edition" of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" for unbelievable 4,99 Euro!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I spotted 2 remaining copies in the bargain bin today.
This release had been announced in Scandinavia last autumn, but never surfaced in the Helsinki stores...so thank you, MGM, for saving me some cash.:p
Would have bought the bugger instantly last year for trice the money.

Definetly gonna order this set.
Prey and Inseminoid are the two films im mainly getting it for as I can't find these on they're own anywhere on DVD.

Was gonna get a SAW 3 and SAW 4 on BluRay as part of a 2 for 19.99 deal but parts 1 and 2 aren't out yet on BluRay in the UK so its pretty pointless getting 3 and 4.

Bet it's not the extended "Integral" version, as featured on the OOP German DVD issued by Dragon Entertainment.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 16th June 2008 08:59 PM

RobbieD 19th June 2008 04:59 PM

Last horror DVD was Frontier(s) which was very good! Again the French show everyone how to do it properly.

kevxxx1 20th June 2008 02:22 PM

New stuff watched and rated:

Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull - Spielberg and Lucas shouldn't have dug up this. A strange meld of old and new bound to not really please anyone.
The Happening - An intriguing premise let down by miscasting and bad dialogue but still of interest.
3 Dev Adam - Hilarious laugh riot
Screams of a Winter Night - Odd, very low budget, atmospheric, a bit slow with moments of interest but hampered by the Dutch VHS print I watched being too dark
Prophecies of Nostradamus - Excellent, this really needs to be on DVD
Iguana with the Tongue of Fire - Terrible, like a cheap Edgar Wallace adaptation with bad effects
My Brother Has Bad Dreams - Very slow and boring, rarity does not a good film make
Darktown Strutters - Bizarre seventies oddity, too frothy for my taste
10,000 B.C. - Awful, insulting, ridiculous cave-man rip-off of Apocalypto
Coonskin - Social commentary/exploitation that could never get made today, not bad but overbearing at times
The Protector - Crappy 80s Jackie Chan vehicle
What Have They Done To Your Daughters - After having watched too many disappointing giallo this was an unexpected treat, very good and recommended

Paul@TheOverlook 20th June 2008 04:00 PM

Got the Dutch Blu-ray of David Fincher's ZODIAC yesterday ? skimmed through the disc and have to say, it's hands down the best transfer I have seen to date ? absolutely gobsmacking and proof enough that the format is a significant step up from standard def DVDs.

Just ordered both the below from France-I've never seen Amsterdamned, but have heard good things about it,and director Dick Maas's other Dutch horror film,The Lift is a cult classic......As for LHOTL,I couldn't resist that bloody artwork...class eh?;)

cloud 21st June 2008 01:20 PM

Hey Kev, which gialli do you consider to be disappointments?

Amsterdamned is a great film, very well made with lots of nice touches and interesting ideas. I saw it on TV years ago and it's always stayed with me. You should enjoy it.

Giallos I have seen recently and not been too bothered about:
Iguana With The Tongue Of Fire
Four Flies On Grey Velvet
The Pyjama Girl Case
My Dear Killer
Cold Eyes Of Fear
The Fifth Cord
The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave
Strip Nude For Your Killer
Luciano Ercoli Box Set
The Strange Vice Of Mrs Wardh
Forbidden Photos Of A Lady Above Suspicion
The House With Laughing Windows
Zeder

For balance, I HAVE liked recently: What Have They Done To Your Daughters; Your Vice Is A Locked Room And Only I Have The Key; Lizard In A Woman's Skin; All The Colours Of The Dark; The Killer Must Kill Again; Torso

I'm very fickle. Some films can seem almost identical but I may like one but not another. I can't explain it other than it's just the gut reaction I have whilst watching.

cloud 23rd June 2008 04:56 PM

Argh I'm the same, I'd say I'm as fickle as they come at times.

I have a couple of those titles sitting in my watch pile... should I be concerned? :ack:

kevxxx1 23rd June 2008 06:08 PM

Nah, to each their own. If you enjoy any I haven't then at least it's pleased someone :)

trench 23rd June 2008 08:01 PM

If you ever fancy trading / selling any of those kev, give me a shout.

kevxxx1 23rd June 2008 08:23 PM

The ones I haven't liked have all been ebay'd I'm afraid.

NossB 24th June 2008 07:51 AM

Future-Kill (aka Night Of The Alien) - A movie that was never going to live up to its poster. Edwin Neal is the best thing about this movie, although he was more menacing as Lord Zedd in the Power Rangers... as well as that other role he's famous for, something to do with Texans and chainsaws so I'm told.

Angel 26th June 2008 06:04 AM

Midnight Cowboy UK R2 Special Edition

Highly recommended

NossB 26th June 2008 07:19 AM

Attack The Gas Station - Pretty quirky Korean movie, goes a bit off the rails towards the end though.

Paul@TheOverlook 26th June 2008 02:08 PM

Recently recieved:

DVDs:

YOUTH WITHOUT YOUTH
MISSION TO MARS
A CANDLE FOR THE DEVIL

Blu-ray:

BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD
IN THE LINE OF FIRE
MILLION DOLLAR BABY
ALMOST FAMOUS
THE LIFE OF BRIAN

Just had an email from Play to say my discs of IDENTIFICATION OF A WOMAN and the special edition PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK have just been dispatched

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 5th July 2008 08:06 PM

Amsterdammed is a great little film:)The French dvd is fullscreen, but is a very crisp transfer-well reccommended. As is Jason Statham in THE BANK JOB...a very entertaining caper/heist flick.....;)

Matt 5th July 2008 09:47 PM

Since I've been procrastinating with such dogged ferocity recently I today bribed myself with the complete Sopranos box set. The catch is that I'm going to deny myself the pleasure of watching any of it until I complete the work I've been putting off. And it's obviously working a treat because here I am, sat at my writing laptop, surfing horror message boards without having even created a blank document to start from yet.

mark meakin 7th July 2008 01:57 PM

Western & Richard Harris fans could do worse than check out the r1 double bill I received today of The Deadly Trackers/Man In The Wilderness. The flipper disc will play on r2 machines despite the r1 symbol on the sleeve too.Another bonus is that the Deadly Trackers is totally uncut despite the US 'PG' rating on the sleeve & includes footage cut from the UK theatrical & Warner video versions.I'm suprised MITW has a 'GP' rating on the same disc considering the gory bear attack.I'm not sure if that film is uncut though on the disc.

Angel 8th July 2008 07:43 AM

The Mutations

Still enjoyable but could easily pass for a 15 today as it is now quite tame.
