Where Eagles Dare (1968)

Any who say this isn't a Christmas movie, well i disagree. What do we have in this splendid boys own, Alistair MaClean war time adventure?

Well, we have a lovely Bavarian village, Ingrid Pitt serving Schnapps and mulled wine, alpine trees, twinkling Christmas lights in the form of a myriad of explosions and snow. Lots of snow, meaning there's a one in four chance it's set in December anyway.

As for the film...it's fantastic. A holiday treat, endlessly watchable. Clint Eastwood at his coolest, Richard Burton who actually out cools Clint, quotable lines, a plot that twists and turns and at some points really does make you ask 'What the f**k?' and a final hour of all out action. Shit really blows up in this film!

Where Eagles Dare - The ultimate Christmas movie.

I want to watch Star Wars, my missus would rather go through childbirth again, the two girls just laugh and walk off, my fifteen year boy will have a massive hangover and I'll deal with that little shit at another time. There's a showing at 10.45, pretty sure I can skulk off.
Go. I've started doing it in recent months, missus doesn't share many of the same tastes as me and we rarely get opportunity to go together even when we both want to see the same thing. My job is very weather dependant, so a wet afternoon is ideal. Doubt I'd go in the evening though.

If I didn't go on my own, I'd never go at all.

Star Wars the force awakens

Lucas this is how you do a Star Wars film, absolutely amazing from beginning to end. A true Star Wars movie in the spirt of the originals. Great special effects and a new cast of characters that we will grow to love. No silly politics or annoying characters and actors that can actually act. 10/10

All the time. Prefer going to the cinema on my own. I usually time it when there is less chance of other people as well. I Still remember getting in to the screening of Oculus and realising I was the only one in the theatre. Added extra creepiness to what is already a creepy film.
I tried watching mosquito last night, was really exhausted and didn't feel up to more Zatoichi as its not the best frame of mind for subtitled films. Still managed to drop off to sleep however. I did enjoy what I saw.

Are Zatoichi films part of a box set or are they individual release's ?

I don't go by myself as I always have carers with me, but my brother always goes to the cinema by himself, and has done for years.

There will probably be a good mixture of families and Star Wars widows/widowers, whose other halves have no interest in the film at all.

Criterion released a box set of 26 Zatoichi films which is pretty much everything bar the 100+ episode TV series, The Takeshi Kitano film and one of the films in the original franchise where there were some kinds of rights issues. It has all the films on Blu-ray and DVD so anyone not Region A compatible with BR may still be able to play the DVDS. All of them so far (with the exception of Zatoichi the outlaw) look bloody marvellous as well.

Criterion Collection: Zatoichi - Blind Swordsman Blu-ray 1973 US Import: Amazon.co.uk: DVD & Blu-ray

Its dear right now but keep an eye open as it was down to about £70 at one point.

Saw Starwars on Friday. I think it captures the spirit of the original trilogy. I'm not sure the scene with Jar Jar Binks was really necessary though.

Recommended.
