Voice Without A Shadow (1958) This is the first of 3 films on the Nikkatsu Diamond Guys vol 1 which just come out on Arrow Video, and it starts off strong. It's a Hitchcockian thriller in which the lead protagonist accidentally calls up a wrong number and a murderer answers the phone - why he answers the phone mid-murder is anyone's guess but such is the device of the plot Tension rises nicely when Asako realises who the murderer is but everything is tied up a little too easily towards the end which ultimately lets the film down. A solid 3 star film

Poltergeist it starts of with what you think will be another bit a Spielberg whimsy, with the typical happy american suburb, but things soon take a sinister turn and even though its not partially scary now (it was when i first watched )its has a great atmosphere and tension, thanks largely the cast, story and direction Hooper. a classic. i have the remake which ive not watched yet but i just know its not going to be a patch on this. 9/10 now watching damned in Venice and maybe pulse after. both not seen before. |
