Yeah, mines the Network dvd. It doesn't seem to be in circulation on Network's site any more. I've seen you recommend the blu to people across various Network sales but the dvd has never been available or i would have bought it long since.

It's probably the most 'un' Network film i can think of.

Yeah, it's definitely something I wouldn't have them down to release.

Amazing. Don't go in expecting a typical superhero movie what we get is a very violent, well acted and directed road movie. The banter/ chemistry between Logan and Xavier is excellent with plenty of funny moments, the acting from both is top notch and as mentioned by others it won't get the recognition it deserves. Had a tear in my eye a few times. Its also very sad in places with Xavier suffering from dementia.

Basic story is some time with n the future most mutants have been wiped out and no new mutants are being born, Logan who is now ill and is no longer the best at what he does spends he's days as a chauffeur and looking after the ailing Xavier, when gets involved to get a young girl to safety with a very familiar set of powers and abilities. Really surprised how this wasn't an 18 with how violent and bloody it is. DC and more importantly Zack Snyder this is how you do a dark and adult movie. 9.6/10

This morning I used some Amazon vouchers to order the Shout! Factory Collector's Edition releases of The Thing and The Return of the Living Dead and had a shipping confirmation email to say the DVD box set of The Tick vs. Season Two* is now on its way to me.
But what have you actually watched?

Oops – wrong thread. Now moved to the right one!

In terms of films, over the last week I have recently seen and enjoyed:
  • Viscount's House
  • Labyrinth
  • Chasing Mavericks
  • Good Will Hunting
  • Vampire Journals
  • Dawn of the Dead (European Cut)
  • Star Trek: Into Darkness
  • Salem's Lot
  • The commentaries on the Shout! Factory Blu-ray release of Child's Play

I would like to write more detail about them, but I've been preoccupied with writing a 4000 case study exploring various aspects of the therapeutic relationship and beginning my research proposal, including an ethics pack and questionnaire/survey, along with the unnecessary reading.

I also have the Network Blu-ray and thought it was a really well constructed and engrossing film with far more brutality than I was expecting. Dream Home is highly recommended if you haven't seen it and is well worth a blind buy in the next Network sale.

Unbroken (2014)

After a near-fatal plane crash in WWII, Olympian Louis Zamperini spends a harrowing 47 days in a raft with two fellow crewmen before he's caught by the Japanese navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp.

The above is a rather simplistic summary as posted on IMDB.

Angelina Jolie's directorial debut is so much more than that. Co-written by the Coen brothers, Unbroken is a punishing true story where Zamperini's predicament gets worse and worse as the film goes on culminating in a battle of wits with a sadistic prison camp corporal. However this being a true story there's no battering in revenge from a Stallone or Norris to look forward to.

Everything about the film is excellent from Jolie's direction to Roger Deakins superb cinematography and a memorable performance from English actor Jack O Connell who with this and 2012's Tower Block and 71 (2014) is proving himself a fine actor.

It's a very moving film at times and come the end it wouldn't surprise me if your bottom lip wobbled a touch as mine did. Even though it was a beautifully made film and extremely intense at times the fact it is a true story means there isn't that aforementioned feel good revenge factor that so often applies with films such as this. Meaning in the future i'm more likely to pick out a Missing in Action type POW film than this even though Ms Jolie's film is the superior piece of film making.
