2k, 4k. It still won't turn special effects which are just scratched onto the film into anything decent.

Oh Em Gee.

It pretty much has no discernible plot. Starts out with this old guy exclaiming that he's the only one who knows "the secret". Then cuts to him walking down a dark passageway past stone murals, then he's hammering the wall in the passageway and these zombies creep up behind him and attack him. Then there's a group of folk (including a weird incestuous boy?) arrive at this big house to visit "the professor" who we much later find out is the old guy from above. Then, almost as soon as they arrive zombies start attacking and killing them. There's no back story or reason why there are zombies. There's no explanation why the group are there to visit the professor. Or anything. Doesn't even tell you what "the secret" is. Indeed, "the secret" is never mentioned again after the opening scene.

The zombies obviously have the capacity for abstract thought, as demonstrated by their use of tools and weapons, and also climbing skills to get into the building after the folk.

I wasn't too fussed with it, and preferred last week's *Zombie Lake*.

Watched Kentucky Fried Movie.
I haven't had a good laugh in a while. This is probably my favorite film by Landis. I can quote so much. favourite bit has to be either Rex Kramer: Danger Seeker or Feelarama.

The Thing From Another World (1951)

I still can't believe this Howard Hawks production is directed by Christian Nyby. There are so many of Hawks classic tropes on show that he either directed it himself or basically told Nyby shot for shot what to do.

Anyone who's familiar with Hawks work will understand where i'm coming from. The quiet scenes with Kenneth Tobey and Margaret Sheridan make me think of His Girl Friday (1940) and there's also a feel of Only Angels Have Wings (1939) to the whole thing. Not to mention the camaraderie of men under stress which features strongly in all Hawks westerns.

What is indisputable is how good a film The Thing From Another World is. It's a beautifully made slice of paranoid horror turned monster movie ladened with atmosphere and is quite rightly classed as one of the best science fiction films ever made. if you don't believe me place your disc in the player, turn on your tv and i'd suggest you were lying if you said you don't get an excited thrill from watching those slow burning letters through the background opening titles.

Well I feel a twat. I thought Howard Hawks was the actual director.

Feel less

I personally believe Hawks gave Nyby the credit as a leg up ...

In truth there's nothing here that you won't have seen before and the plot is quite conventional. What is different is the whole thing is laugh free. There's no humour, no camp thrills, Don't go looking for fun here, for Manhunt is an atmospheric horror film, with a slow burn beginning that transforms into something that is hard to watch on the lines of Last House on the Left with relentless terror and brutality.

A film liked the previously reviewed Severance, Botched and Wilderness, that i keep coming back to time and again.

Manhunt would never have survived the 80's uncut. Recommended to those who enjoy Backwoods Horror.

I've nothing to add to this, really enjoyed it so thanks for bringing it to my attention, definitely worth more than the £1.27 I paid for it
