I quite liked 3 & 4 of the resi franchise. The other ones... well I have a blu-ray set. I may try and revisit them to see if my opinions have changed

Smash Cut (2009)

After his latest film is met with horrible reviews, Able Whitman sets out to prove the critics wrong. After a tragic accident where an exotic dancer is killed in Whitman's car he discovers that real life blood and guts looks far superior in his movies than the piss poor props he had been derided for.

It's a pity Smash Cut is so wretched as it really doesn't make for a fitting final film for the late David Hess. At least Hess can't be blamed for this as his performance along with adult star Sasha Grey is the best thing about the film.

Seemingly a tribute to Herschell Gordon Lewis, who is actually in the film, the film seems about right. Poor acting from all but Hess and Grey, little in the way of an interesting plot... but worst of all, and this is a pity, really poor gore effects. It should be so OTT but it isn't, in fact it doesn't come close. It's it's all a touch too camp, despite some decent in-jokes that gore enthusiasts might enjoy, there are no thrills and no tension. I think the problem is mainly at script level as the film starts out fine but during the second half when it should be wildly manic it sort of peters out and doesn't really engage like the first half did.

Perhaps it would have been far more entertaining had the film been about Grey's maniac nurse as the promo materials suggest it is rather than just the one sequence on a film set.

This is the second time i've sat through Smash Cut, the first being when it initially hit the shops, and both times i've come away disappointed.

If anything you'll find them worse! 1, 3 and 5 are great fun, 2 has some pretty spectacular set-pieces but is a boring film to watch. The 4th (the one of the ship) was bloody terrible, everything was CGI, not even Wentworth Miller could save it.

Wentworth Miller? Why the hell would he save it, he's got the charisma of a plank of wood.

Loved the first 3 Resident Evil games on the PS1, watched the first film and didn't think much to it, so I've not bothered with any of the others

I tend to equate them with the underworld films. I kept renting them for free when I worked at Blockbuster and always regretted it.

Yeah, Miller was in a prison (typecast ) and they flew the plane off the top of the building to the the big tanker ship. The 3rd one was in the desert. I like that 5th one which was the testing facilities under the Arctic ice! I've not seen the final one yet but I'm actually quite looking forward to it.

This is one of the best Hammer Horror's masterpieces, even though it was done on a low budget and shot in six weeks, it's very suspenseful and fast paced entertaining movie from start to finish and best watched in the dark.

Adrienne Corri stars as the ring mistress of the carnival and look out for David Prowse before he became Darth Vader. For all Vampire fans this is a film to add to your collection.

I always liked this film, first saw it in the mid-80's on a late night ITV horror slot.
