A quick look at the BBFC website for the recent four Bond films shows the following:
Casino Royale had a 15 certificate because it contained "one scene of torture and strong action violence"
Quantum of Solace was rated 12 for "frequent moderate action violence"
Skyfall was rated 12A for "moderate action violence and one use of strong language"
It was back to a 12 certificate for Spectre due to "moderate violence, threat".

John Wick was given a 15 certificate for "strong language, bloody violence". It might just be me, but the language accentuates the violent aspect of John Wick and downplays it in all but one of the Bond films by adding "fantasy" or "moderate", with only Casino Royale having "strong" as the adjective to describe the violence in the film.

Default What Films Have You Seen Recently?

I'm confused as to why the John Wick films are being compared to Bond, not once did I think of James Bond when I watched them, I just thought they were a pair of films Liam Neeson turned down i.e more like Taken than Bond

I did enjoy the pair of them though and will eventually pick them up on blu ray

The interesting thing about Casino Royale is that the film's violence is still substantially toned down in the American version (via missing or alternate footage).

It's surprising that the US is still to receive an uncut version, you'd think it would have happened by now, what with Bond being so popular and a film like Licence To Kill being readily available without any censorship.

Quite a few years back, I ordered an Australian Casino Royale blu-ray just so I could have an uncut version since the then current UK bd was a slightly trimmed 12 certificate version.

My understanding is that Eon now consult the BBFC as to what they can get away with in a 12 rated version and then release that cut worldwide. That's what happened with Spectre anyway (which had a potentially contraversial eye gouging murder scene).

Shame that Eon now pre-cut their Bond movies. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to another 15 certificated 007 adventure like the uncut Licence To Kill or Casino Royale films.

The Limehouse Golem (2017)

Set in 1890 and adapted by Jane Goldman from Peter Ackroyd's novel Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem, this follows Detective Inspector John Kildare, a man brought to Scotland Yard ostensibly as a 'fall guy', being unable to solve his first murder case and thereby spare the blushes of a superior. This is no ordinary murder case, but a gruesomely violent serial killer, the titular Limehouse Golem. Whilst in the capital, Kildare follows a court case with Elizabeth 'Lizzy' Cree charged with the murder of her husband, the playwright John Cree. As Kildare watches court proceedings and speaks to her in the cells below, he suspects Lizzie is innocent and her late husband may be somehow involved in the serial killer murders.

This is a cleverly constructed film, with a murder investigation within the murder investigation and different people playing different roles, sometimes at the same time – it begins with Dan Leno speaking to camera and telling the audience we must begin at the end and showing the dead body of John Cree, apparently poisoned by his wife. I won't say any more because I think this is one of those films where the less you know, the more you'll enjoy it.

However, the casting is superb, with Bill Nighy magnificent as the downtrodden inspector, Daniel Mays utterly convincing as the constable Kildare chooses to assist him and Olivia Cooke, who you may have seen in The Quiet Ones, Ouija or The Signal, brilliant as Lizzie. With the rest of the cast including Sam Reid, Eddie Marsan and and Douglas Booth, there is no shortage of talent, which director Juan Carlos Medina, making only his second feature length film after 2012's Painless, users to full effect. The period design and costuming is first rate and it plays out like a cross between From Hell and The Usual Suspects, with much of the events being told in flashback by those who Kildare questions.

I thought I'd enjoy this when I saw the trailer a week or so ago and was very happy with what I saw – it's a gorgeous film with a wonderful score and plot which moves along at a fair rate, keeping you guessing every step of the way. Highly recommended.

CARNIVAL OF BLOOD (1970)

Low budget drive-in movie. An investigation is underway after a woman is decapitated in a horror ride. Strangely the park stays open even after two more deaths occur in this drawn out slasher. The deaths are not too bad considering the budget, a head lopped off, a stabbing and disembowelment and a women getting her face smashed in.
The park is the famous Coney Island fun fair and it is great to see some of the amusements from the 1970's even the Wonder Wheel.
I bet The Warriors were around there somewhere.

Il Bury You Tomorrow (2002, Alan Rowe Kelly)
Dolores has issues. Her coping mechanism is rather unique (less so if you've seen any Buttgereit ). So far an enjoyable trawl through some Fisher Price sleaze & depravity. In some alternate dimension where Desperate Living is Citizen Kane this lollops along piling on the unpleasantness in quite a cuddly way.It reminds of the films we used to watch on acid The trailer, which kept popping up during that year, always made me think of an Murican Nekromantik 2 . Great double bill with Corpses (2004)

Fair enough Rik, let's go with that! Much better comparison. The Taken films. I've just watched the first kill count video for John Wick. I'm still not seeing all that much violence. Keanu Reeves shoots lots of people. So what? The Bond comparison was just in terms of violence. To me violence isn't a bloke running round gunning down baddies. It's the guy in Kill List taking a claw hammer to a perverts knee. It's Mr Blonde cutting a cops ear off while dancing to Stealers Wheel. It's Mads Mickelson whipping Daniel Craig's bollocks.
