I watched The Deadly Spawn (1983) last night.

A gory monster movie that is heavily inspired by 50's monster and sci-fi movies. Everything from the acting to the music (which has the theremin sound) screams "50's horror movie". It's surprisingly gory for a film that was downgraded from an 18 to a 15. You see flesh torn from faces and lots of blood and gore (all done in a fantastic 80's way!)

The look of the monster is absolutely fantastic. It took me a while to get into this film, but once it got into the flow of things, I enjoyed the hell out of this. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to see a more modern interpretation of the 50's creature features, even though it did go into Home Alone territory at the climax, with the kid finding all these different ways of trying to kill the monster.

7.5/.10

A film i've seen several times on dvd and one i'll always return to.

Highly recommended.
I don't think I have seen this since I was given an DVD 2007 in advance of its 2007 DVD release. I remember thoroughly enjoying it and, looking at my review, scored it 8/10, but said it was a real shame the disc contained no extra features whatsoever.

Something else I noted was the two remakes: in 1986 with Tom Hanks and Shelly Long as The Money Pit and again in 2007 with Are We Done Yet? starring Ice Cube and Nia Long (it hadn't been released when I wrote my review). I haven't seen either and the only one which vaguely interests me is The Money Pit if only because Tom Hanks is a brilliant comedic actor.

The Brotherhood of Justice

Keanu Reeves and his posh mates turn high school vigilantes before he bottles it and grasses them up as things become more right wing, blatantly rascist and personal. I think this was made for TV, it certainly feels that way. It is also a prophetic vision of white male privilege, that said, we all know snitches get stitches...

The Face Of Fu Manchu.
Endearingly racist in that British way. Clistopher Lee runs amok after cheating death ... again.

Highly recommended!!

'The Crazies' (Romero)...haven't seen this before, so no 'attachment' to the film, from my youth. As a result, it was a real slog for me.

I can imagine. It sprawls a bit certainly. Pity, as I do prefer it to Night. Yes, historically important but still ....
