Really glad you liked 'Mad Love" Dem, it's been a favourite of mine for years, Peter Lorre is excellent in it.
Deserves a proper U.K release and to be better known.

I agree that it’s a myth, I once asked a Scottish bloke in Glasgow to buy me a pint and he gave me a black eye

Currently watching The Dark Tower, having not read any of the books, just realised the film takes place after the books finish.

It's a fun but forgettable children's fantasy akin to Narnia, Neverending Story, Percy Jackson or The Maze Runner, lots of cgi and very dark night time scenes, but the acting is incredible for something so light.

Recommended, but probably a once movie.

If you've all quite finished wid da casual racism

Here's my favourite bit of prejudice.

Acquaintence was sitting in mine when The Levellers ... y'know those posho crusty liberals aye? ... came up in conversation. Well he comes awa with "They are Fenians" . Simply because they used a penny (tin) whistle in some of their songs . He being a Tim etc. We all laughed at him then set him straight.

I love Scotland but sometimes it feels like we specialise in pricks ....

truth or dare

Apologies for neglecting reviews. My new job is still in its training phase and about to end so I'm full on either working or chilling. Once im settled in at my desk I'll hopefully turn out a few more. Thought I'd give a few thoughts on Blumhouse's latest....

After the terrific happy death day, a film with a lot of charm, great direction and some good performances I'd hoped they would try and retain that quality here.
Sadly not. Truth or dare is saddled with a central premise that probably sounded great on paper but wasn't well thought through. Firstly, a group of college kids in Mexico wandering off with some random guy? ...... really? Given the reputation of the country that was baffling. Then the demons truth or dare game.. why not just constantly go for Truth? Well they seem to have considered that and have the demon stop and basically give the rules mid way through...
The pacing feels off and I found myself getting a little impatient for things to end. The lead male character gives a terrible performance that's consistently annoying and other characters storm off in huffs at various intervals dooming their mates.
With the bad stuff out of the way, there are some nice ideas in play buried in the morass of poor choices and flat direction. Enough to keep me from walking out.
Wait for it on Netflix. It's pretty much the epitome of the kind of failures that made up the bulk of straight to video horror at one point. Just don't expect great things from it
