You Were Never Really Here - My main worry about watching this film was that it wouldn't live up to the hype. It did. That said, it certainly isn't for everyone. The pacing is strange, it's both ponderously slow and ridiculously frenetic, unlike anything I've watched before, the strangeness is exacerbated by Jonny Greenwood's jarring score and Joaquin Phoenix's excellently offbeat performance.

The story is actually quite derivative, an ex-soldier earns his money by becoming some sort of enforcer/hitman, specialising in rescuing kidnapped or missing girls, the plot is as old as the hills, its what Lynne Ramsey has done to the material that makes You Were Never Really here such a special film. It's a very violent film, yet her technique kind of removes you from what is actually happening, it's quite clever, still You Were Never Really Here is a hard 15, I consider it to be more violent than Refn's Drive for example and that was an 18.

A lot of people have compared this film with Taxi Driver, Joaquin Phoenix's 'Joe' is a lot more human than Travis Bickle but they do have things in common, both are clinging on to the edges of society, but not once did I feel that Joe was suffering from delusions or a danger to those that didn't have cause to cross his path whereas Travis Bickle was more of a time-bomb. You Were Never Really Here does echo Taxi Drivers closing ten minutes though.

You Were Never Really Here is a modern masterpiece and the best film I've seen in years. I just hope Lynne Ramsey Doesn't take as long between films next time.

then when frank meets other women he takes them home and has sex with them with his girlfriends body in the next bed, before killing them as well.

The dunwich horror. Wilber watley is one of a long family of witchs and intends to do a black mass so he can bring back a old race of evil gods the old ones.
to do so he needs to get a old book the necronomicon from a university.
he also meets a young student called Nancy who he plans to charm and use her in his offerings to the gods during the black mass.

yes, i like this very much and is entertaining 89.5 out of 100.

Blastfighter. Ex cop Tiger Sharp is fresh out of jail for killing his wifes murderer and wants a peaceful life in the woods. but crosses a bunch of redneck hillbillys, including the big guy George eastman, who hunt dears.
he connects with his daugher Connie who turns up to see him. but the rednecks attempt to rape her and later kill her. then Tiger goes all Rambo and gets out his state of the art gun and goes on the rampage.

this is top entertainment and a good revenge film with a pounding synth sound that i love 93.2 out of 100.

Has anyone else been too scared to watch anything in over a week because of all the thrips (thunderbugs/thunderflies)? They're still swarming thanks to this perpetual heatwave and they love crawling inside your TV just so they can be entombed looking like a cluster of dead pixels on your screen for all eternity.

Horrible things.

Say what now??
Flying bugs?
Reminds me of a certain Bradford Dillman film

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrips

They hatch out when it's super hot and they're a nuisance until it mercifully rains and they get wiped out for another year.

Not such an issue for city folk, I imagine, but they can be a real problem in the country (especially if you live near a field). I've still got an old laptop with two of the damned things stuck inside.

I live right across from a field but they aren't an issue at all. It's a grazing field, the Wiki page says they usually inhabit crops.

Whereabouts in the UK are you?

Pretty close to multiple crop fields, hence the living nightmare.

Racquet (1979, David Winters)

Anti-dote-ah! sang The Fall. And so we shall see/ watching every film made this year/ can be quite the chore I reveal ...

More or less a porn film. It sure looks like one . Minus the white wee wee natch . The lead reminds me of Chapman at the end of Meaning Of Life ... which just adds to the total hilarity. What a tonic! Features some tennis players. Sheesh min.
