Gang War in Milan.

Salvatore(Antonio sabato) is a sicilian chap who runs a fruit and veg business to cover up his prostitution racket. and finds himself in a gang war with a rival french mob boss who wants him to go into partnership with his drug business.

Another great crime film from the legendary Umberto lenzi, in the highly un pc tradition that all the best 70's films were. with brutal violence, especially against hookers, and one chap getting a very painful electrocution to his meat and two veg.

excellent recommend. not quite up there with Lenzi's classic Almost Human. but still a solid well made film.
And the sexy Marisa Mell also co stars too adding some nice eye candy as salvatores love interest. 76 out of 100.

Killing Zoe (1993, Roger Avary)

Not the film that I remembered. I do get the feeling that both Rog and Quentin didn't actually know what heroin does to you . Ahem. A group of ne'r do wells plan a heist. Riddled with 'references' but told in a more linear fashion than the Travolta film. The studied wackiness of some scenes result in a tonal slurry that is hard to get involved with. Wantee something from the 90s? See The Doom Generation instead.

Last week's viewings:

Evils of the Night (1985)

Teens are being kidnapped by two sleazy garage mechanics (Aldo Ray and Eaten Alive's Neville Brand) who in turn are assisting aliens who have landed on earth and are harvesting the teens' blood to extend their life-cycle (yes really). This was a bit of mixed bag, as although it is dripping with cheese with plenty of t&a it also has a bit of a sordid, nasty edge to it helped in no small part by the sleazy profit hungry garage mechanics and the cool, logical aliens (John Carradine and Julie Newmar being among them).

A bit of a curio for sure with plenty going on but a bit difficult to recommend en masse.

Psycho Cop Returns (1993)

The psychotic killer cop is back this time dispatching office workers who are organising an after-office party complete with plenty of booze and hookers. As well as some grisly kills, sex and nudity there is the bevy of one-liners from Bobby Shafer's 'psycho cop' whom he plays with obvious relish and glee. More farcical than the first Psycho Cop perhaps, but also a more lean film which works in its favour.

58/100

One Cut of the Dead (2017)

A film within a film within a film. An interesting take on a tired well-trodden sub-genre of cinema, the zombie film. Despite an interesting premise I wasn't completely sold on this one. Re-watch pile material for sure, though.

64/100

Wacko (1982)

Ridiculous horror-comedy-slasher mash-up with references to many classic horror films peppered throughout; from character names (Norman Bates - and his mother of course - and 'Alfred Hitchcock High School'), to mad science teacher Dr. Moreau and a brief appearance by The Elephant Man. Wacko, a tale of a a pumpkin headed lawn-mower killer coming back after 13 years doesn't take itself at all seriously. Whilst a little too silly at times, this is still a lot of fun.

61/100

Cry of a Prostitute (1974)

Henry Silva plays gangster Tony Aniante who is in the middle of a feud between two mafia families. He manipulates both families into believing he is on their side and are just waiting for the right moment to take the initiative. Chock full of double-dealings, shoot outs and planned hits, as well as the gorgeous Barbara Bouchet as mafia wife/whore Margie, this one is certainly recommended to Euro-crime fans. Unfortunately the Code Red disc only offers the English dub, however a good watch all the same.

67/100

Greatful Dead (2013)

Nami is a young woman with numerous hangups sprouting from a dysfunctional childhood, wherein she is ignored by her parents and acts out for attention. Her mother ends up leaving to care for children in Africa, her older sister runs away from home, and her father takes a mistress and then kills himself when she leaves him. She inherits a small fortune after her father's death that allows her to pursue various interests, many of which are abnormal, but the main one being 'solitary' watching, wherein she seeks out loners and observes their behaviour and logs it in her diary. What starts out as harmless observation gradually turns into more psychotic stalker behaviour.

A pretty unique and mildly warped film. Fans of Sono, Chan-Wook etc. will probably find plenty to interest themselves here.

Black Veil for lisa.

A police inspector(john mills) is on the case of a murderer and suspects that his younger sexy wife lisa is cheating on him and starts following her. and ends up compromising his job.

An early film in a sort of giallo style from massimo Dallamano, the chap who did the classic Solange and the rest of the schoolgirl in peril films. and is a very entertaining and stylish effort indeed.
Performances are excellent, especially from John Mills in the lead role. and Robert hoffman, the chap out of Spasmo, also turns up as well playing a good part as a hitman.

Overall, a decent little giallo type film. well made and intriguing. 75 out of 100.

Mutant (1984)

Wings Hauser and his bro fall foul of local thugs when they venture "into the countryside"
The townsfolk are sparse on the ground .... and there's a new 'facility' on the outskirts of town. Reminiscent of the DKs song Saturday Night Holocaust tbh . Don't want no blue people? Don't dump shit in da river. Recommended.

Don't Go Into The Woods 1981.

Back packers venture to the mountains for a hike shrouded by Woods with a killer lurking around inside the woodlands.

Listed as one of those banned by the BBFC, did I watch a different movie that they watch as to why was this banned, ok people getting hacked, loosing limbs, blood that looks like water paint, bad acting, very little suspense, midly entertaining though and questionable as what was the killer's motive or did I miss that? Not a film that is re-watchable over and over again, slasher fans can be dissapointed.

The Whip and the Body (1963)

Mario Bava was at the peak of his powers in the mid sixties and The Whip and the Body is a prime example of those powers.

Starring Christopher Lee and Daliah Lavi this is perhaps Bava's most romantic film, albeit with a dangerous edge to it. Whilst it may not be the most thrilling film it's one that draws you in to Bava's delightfully Gothic haunted world. The cinematography is exquisite, and the colours, it's like watching a beautiful painting come to life, from the Poldark esq beach scenes to the drapes billowing in the wind in the creepy old mansion, Bava paints before our eyes a canvas with textures only the very best can achieve.

The most exciting thing is that Bava does this on a limited budget rather than some huge Hollywood epic and the subject of his brush strokes is a classic ghost story of psycho-sexual revenge and censor baiting sadomasochism - Now that's art.

Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers 1988.

A man stumbles upon a group of Hookers who hack up their clients with chainsaws for their cult.

Even with the title you know it's going to be a cheesey 80s film but this was more enjoyable than other cheesey films from that era. It's weird, wacky and some good funny one liners, even a girl dancing to Elvis music, and a appearance from Linnea Quigley and Gunner Hansen, decent comedy crime horror parody. Worth a watch and a laugh.
