I watched The Sixth Sense and Avatar tonight. The Sixth Sense still works as an extremely accomplished horror film even though you know how it ends and is still the best movie that M. Night Shyamalan has made. Avatar is overlong, baggy and clichéd but is still an incredible visual experience

I picked up a DVD of that from a charity shop a few months ago for a quid and I still haven't got around to watching it yet. :o Gabba gabba hey!

Basket Case
This film has not aged too well and the low budget stop motion effects and poor acting are something I had previously managed to forget. (I had also forgoten the fact that there is one hell of a lot of screaming!!! ) It still has a few great moments of black humour though. I really must try and get around to watching the sequels some time.

... Dorian Gray

Last night.

Very much played by the numbers costume drama. Not at all exciting, but decent acting all around. Forgetful at best.

That sums it up pretty well. It was okay and perfectly watchable, but nothing special -- it certainly wasn't as dark as I would have liked.

Basket Case hasn't aged well - but I think thats part of its charm. :o

The sequels are better in my opinion. Parts 2 & 3 are so funny. There's actually quite a bit of social commentary going on that gets lost within all the...well, you'll see! I'm biased though, I love Hennenlotter's stuff. All of it.

Watched JCVD earlier. Dude can act...

I think the majority of people were surprised at Van Damme's peformance in JCVD.Just goes to show, you should never judge a book by it's cover.

Follow That Camel
A strange "Carry On" that had the two words missing from the opening credits in the same way "Don't Lose Your Head" did. Strange in the way that it cast Phil Silvers in a leading role that was originally written for Sid James. Thankfully Phil Silvers doesn't bring the film down too much and the fact that a lot of the well established Carry On players are present helps a great deal. Basically this is a funny parody of the foriegn legion films. 'Nuff said.

Ninja Squad
This is one of those cut and paste films by Godfrey Ho that is so bad it's almost good. There are just so many unintentionally funny things going on you can't not have some admiration. I love the coloured head bands that all have the word "Ninja" printed on them. (Despite the fact that Ninja's should remain invisible by stealth.) My favourite line, "You were born a Ninja and you will die a Ninja". is delivered so straight...... and there was dumb old me thinking that you trained hard for many years to become a Ninja?

Dead And Buried
It has been quite a few years since I watched this last. I wasn't overly impressed then and my feelings really haven't changed that much. Very few of the gore effects are convincing and the film just has no atmosphere or tension for me. The syringe in the eye still makes me cringe, possibly more due to my needle phobia that anything else, but that's about it.

TENEMENT

Roberta Findlay's urban assult flick is a pale shadow of the great films she made with her husband Michael in the 60s. Slow and poorly paced there is not a lot to enjoy here except for the excessive amounts of blood spilled with each death. The film also contains a rather nasty rape scene and those who have read the text interview with Roberta on the Alpha Blue 70s Porn Directors series, will know that this kind of action is a personal fetish of hers!

TO THE DEVIL A DAUGHTER

I love this film, sure the ending is awful and the monster baby looks like a rubber glove but there are some great images on display through out the film. The acting is excellent on the main but the thing that stands out to me is how much bigger the film is compared to all other Hammer films with it's use of location and bigger named cast. Sadly, it was Hammer's last horror but shows the way that the studio could have progressed.

DEVIL'S DUE

70s XXX smut, cashing in on the then vogue of all things Satanic. Neither good as porn or horror.
