Rituals (1977)

I'd wanted to see this for so long, i eventually got a copy of the Code Red dvd earlier this year and saved it to watch on the night of New Years Day.

What a friggin' waste of time. It's probably the dullest most talky Deliverance rip off i've ever seen. I suppose the performances were okay from Hal Holbrook and co, but f*ck me! What a ponderous, boring, unadventurous script.

A crushing disappointment.

It was also released by Eureka this year and although made recently is practically a perfect viewing partner to The White Reindeer. It's definitely more bizarre.

I've really enjoyed November and recommended it to everyone who like something a little bit weird and unconventional. It's worth watching if only for the scenes with the 'kratts', wonderful creations which are made even better by the way they are accepted as normal by the people around them.

Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The cinematic equivalent of a child banging it's action figures together in a three hour clip show.

These movies began as intelligent, occasionally sophisticated, superhero films with warmth and humour but have now become solely an exercise in money making for Disney.

Still, it was better than Infinity War.


I received Captain Marvel for Christmas. From what i saw of her here i don't think it's ever going to be a film i want to watch.

Okay, when during the first three minutes a cow is carried away by a bizarre helicopter made up of a cow skull and farm implements, you know you are in for two hours of Gothic, eerie 19th century, Estonian folk horror.

I loved Avengers: Endgame when I saw it at the cinema and I'm looking forward to watching it again at home. I thought it finished off the Thanos storyline in a way which was not only satisfactory, but exciting and emotional. It was always going to be tough to handle that many superheroes and character arcs developed in MCU films in a coherent way, but my expectations were surpassed.

The Captain Marvel film is completely different as it's basically a buddy movie between her and (a much younger) Nick Fury with lots of funny lines and an awesome 1990s soundtrack.
