Touch Of Death. 1988 A middle aged man kills of the women he's dating when he gets bored and uses their body parts as trophies and consumption. Lucio Fulci brings this low budget flick that seems more of a TV movie rather than a big screen film, there is his normal element of a man who seems mild mannered on the outside and a total psycho on the inside. It does start off as a slow burner, seems to get interesting then goes on a perverted road of the guy watching his own recordings of the women he tortures...whatever tickles your pickle. Maybe enjoyable to some and laughter to others, make of it as you will, touch of death.jpg

I found Touch of Death to be a bit wanky, but then again i was just really watching to see what was scabbed off of to make Cat in the Brain, which i love for all it's shiteness, a latter day Fulci masterpiece. Still haven't seen that Ghosts of Sodom one... is that right or did i dream it?

Ok so i'm pretty easy going on 70's/80's films generally but i watched that there film of James Erberts "The survivor" after just reading the book. Bag of shite.... Takes all of the good bits from the book and throws it away, so that the only saving grace of the film is jenny agutter... and the film even wastes that. Toss. 4/10

Devil's Nightmare (1971) A Belgian/Italian production, Devil's Nightmare tells the story of a group of tourists who become lost during a trip. They meet a man at the roadside who gives them directions, but it is too late to catch the ferry. They are then directed to an old castle which offers room and board. A succubus also comes to stay at the castle and proceeds to seduce each tourist according to their own personal weakness, then kills them, using their sin against them. Each tourist is a representative of one of the Seven Deadly Sins. Quite probably most famous for being a star vehicle for sexy red head Erika Blanc (Kill, Baby...Kill!, The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave). Her darkly sensual looks and frightening performance together with her incredibly hot outfits, give proceedings a solid centre around which a spooky, thoughtful film was built. Cult British actress Shirley Corrigan plays one of the guests and features heavily in the drawn out lesbian scenes. Although thinly plotted, Devil's Nightmare makes up for it's shortcomings with lashings of mood and style. A Euro-horror gem. |
