I saw many a brilliant horror double bill back in the 80's. Those were the days.

TALL DUDE 7th September 2009 07:20 PM

A few purchases over the past week or so...

The people vs larry flynt-excellent film about porn baron flynt played brilliantly by woody harrelson and courtney love as his junkie wife(typecasting or what.) Love the gary wright song over the credits too,the excellent dream weaver. £1 in morrisons.

AC/DC-PLUG ME IN-double disc set of acca dacca live shows.Disc one features the bon scott years, disc 2,brian johnson. Great stuff. £8 AT CASH CONVERTERS.

Also bought at cash converters..roy chubby brown-clitoris allsorts and ufo the movie, the martins(comedy/drama starring lee evans and kathy burke),van wilder 2(never seen this yet,but enjoyed the harold and kumar movies which also starred kal penn.)
All a quid each.

Some german splatter arrived in the post last week, timo rose's barricade. Aint seen this before, but going from the synopsis sounds a lot like the wrong turn movies.

Also ordered trapped, and a grindhouse double feature..black candles and the evil eye.:behindsofa:

Kyle 7th September 2009 10:47 PM

i just finished watching the new thai horror meat grinder 7/10

some fantastic gory deaths :woot:

but the film was good when it made sense but the story seemed to go all over the place in parts, but the kills make up for any of that.

defo worth a watch

Kyle 8th September 2009 12:19 AM

and just finished in a glass cage 8/10

great film but really disturbing at times :behindsofa:

what a lovely way to spend a monday night!
i think the john waters quote sums up that film rather well: "In a Glass Cage is a great film, but I'm scared to show it to my friends"

Kyle 8th September 2009 07:07 AM

:pound: yeah that sum's it up great

Pete 8th September 2009 10:23 AM

Battle Force - Fun war epic from Umberto Lenzi with a superb cast: Henry Fonda, John Huston, Samatha Eggar, Helmut Berger, Stacy Keach, Ray Lovelock, Guiliano Gemma and the delicious Edwige Fenech (although her role in the film is pointless and seem's to have been included just because she was shagging one of the producers. Lucky Bastard!)

minky starshine 8th September 2009 12:29 PM

House that bled to death and The silent scream...both from the Hammer house of horror box set...remember watching these when first aired on tv,so thought I would revisit them for ol' time sake..

I had seen Planet Terror just after it was released. Highly rcommended! Return Of The Living Dead III is also an excellent film with great direction from Yuzna and some amazing gore effects. However I was a bit disappointed that they ditched the elements of comedy that dominated the previous installments. I didn't even know this film was released on DVD so I was happy to pick it up from CEX for £2.50! Now I can get rid of my old worn VHS tape! :p

mbv 8th September 2009 03:14 PM

Switchblade romance is one of my fave foreign horrors. Ok so the ending doesn't make sense at all the gore and tension throughout is top notch.

It features one of the greatest beheadings EVER!!

I picked up a few today

Terror at the opera
Last horror movie
hairspray(original)
This is Spinal tap(Up to 11 edition 5 disc w/ amp)
Silent night bloody night
House of clocks

Great seeing Toetag doing a normal horror after the AU trilogy. Really worked well, some very nasty scenes in it.

It should come with a copy of Christmas Vacation

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 8th September 2009 08:03 PM

A Chevy Chase box set mate.....

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 8th September 2009 08:36 PM

I've just finished watching Sick Girl, which arrived today and is a nice little indy horror flick.

I also had Gradiva and The Virgin of Nuremberg arrive today.

Still waiting on my Weekend Murders though... :mmph: Caiman haven't dispatched it yet which is not good. At this rate I'll have to splash out and get one off eBay! :faint2:

I also finally pulled my finger out and bought My Dear Killer and Night Train Murders on Shameless last night from Amazon.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 8th September 2009 08:37 PM

F##k.I've just ordered one from them after having my order cancelled by SupermartUSA.......

Watched American Nightmares(directors cut of Combat shock)
Thought maybe they had inserted some scenes of a man getting hit in balls with a football and some nudity to spice it up ....they didn't. Still very depressing

Stuck on the Jerk to cheer me up...and it worked.:woot:

Kyle 9th September 2009 08:39 AM

bizarre_eye@Cult Labs 9th September 2009 09:14 PM

I just won the Amicus Collection Coffin Box off eBay! :woot:

Also splurged some serious dough on Chainsaw...

I bought:

- Anthropophagous 2000 - Red Edition - Laser Paradise
- Prison Of Hell (2 Disc Hardbox) - X-Rated Kult
- A Rebours (A selection of short films) - Cinema Abbatoir
- Torso - X-Rated Kult (FINALLY!!! - If they have it in stock that is...)
- Untot - Undead Unleashed (German Splatter ;))

Philleh 10th September 2009 03:57 PM

Only reason to get the X-rated Kult release is for the soundtrack! :)

I've watched District 9... four times this week - I can whole heartedly recommend it! lol

mbv 10th September 2009 04:05 PM

Watched Invitation to Hell.
Didn't expect much from it at all but there's something very enjoyable about it! Some decent gore for a low budget.

Yeah the soundtrack is good. I'm trying to complete my X-Rated Kult Giallo collection as well though! ;)

Really want to see District 9 - I might go and see it this weekend and break my 'no cinema' rule!

Philleh 10th September 2009 04:46 PM

Ah, then you have every reason to get it! lol

D-9 is worth breaking that rule for matey! :)

Vampix 11th September 2009 10:26 AM

Recently re-watched Return of the Living Dead, still a great fun movie although it's definitely looking a little dated now.The tarman remains one of my all-time favourite movie zombies, James Karen, Clu Gulager & Don Calfa always make me chuckle. And, of course, there's always Linnea Quigley to drool over. :eyebrows:

iluvdvds@Cult Labs 11th September 2009 11:32 AM

I had a VERY interesting triple bill last night round a mate's house. Starting off with the uber messed up and nightmarish Tetsuo - The Iron Man! I think I have worked out what it is actually about!!!!!!! Go me!

Then we watched Infestation since we both missed this at Frightfest. Very very entertaining but sadly nowhere near as great as Eight Legged Freaks but still a LOT of fun!

Then came my choice ;) Faces Of Death! This is one of the most powerful films I've EVER seen, and no matter how many times I see it, it scares the...sausages out of me! I know it's cheesy and basically ALL fake (luckily!) but the whole message behind it regarding the horrors of an inevitable death and the seemingly insignificance of life really disturbes me!

Playing Tetsuo and FOD back to back, over and over again, to a hostage or something in a small room, would make them go insane!
