Just reading through your posts is making me want to watch a ton of new stuff!
People, you're going to bankrupt me! Haha!

Currently watching the Tobe Hooper/Gunner Hansen commentary on second sight's TCM disc. It's the Elite Entertainment one, fantastic, funny, informative. Bit off topic, but it makes me a bit teary as I recall fondly listening to this & collecting loads back in the 90's with my brother Stephen (RIP), Elite produced some of the single best home entertainment releases EVER, which blazed the trail for what we have now.
Re-Animator, TCM, NOTLD, Dawn of the Dead, Evil Dead, Maniac.
Best thing that ever happened to horror at home for collectors.

The Call of the Wild (2020)

One of my New Years Eve films and perfect for that run up to midnight. The snowy locations were matched by the weather at home and it was a nice undemanding couple of hours of fun punctuated by the odd scene of suspense in what was basically a heartwarming take on Jack London's classic novel.

Harrison Ford was as good as ever (unless you don't like Ford then he was as poor as ever) and did well acting against a non-existent dog, but i never even recognised Dan Stevens or Karen Gillan and was surprised to see their names listed as the credits rolled.

People had issues with the CGI dog the film centered round but i was fine with it. It's expressions made me smile and it was far better then having an animal beaten until it did what the movie makers wanted in my opinion.

Well I enjoyed this more than I thought I would , as Mr Barlow said go in with a open Mind and don't compare it too the original.

Here a young woman is involved in a car accident with her asshole boyfriend and ends up blind, not long after she finds out she has inherited a castle from her mother whom she has not seen since she was very small. It soon apparent that something else is living in the castle and when there friends come to stay the bodies start dropping.

I would say this is more gory than the original with plenty of nudity including demonic pussy and Johnson's on display. The last act has more a cthulhu mythos feel to it than the original with crazy cultists and Otherworldly terrors. The acting is not up to much but give it a chance and you will probably enjoy it. It someways it reminded me of Dagon 7/10

Now watching The Amazing Colossal Man.

Melancholia. 2011.

Justine, bride on her wedding day is struggling to be happy, her sister Claire who planned the wedding have a strained relationship, there is a Blue Comet in the sky, John a astronomer seems to think its Antares. Months later, Justine is separated, the Blue Comet is more visible, Claire thinks it will hit earth and John reassures her it wont while Justine goes in to a state of depression.

This was a tough movie to watch, it feels like everyone in the first part represents the seven deadly sins...or something like that and then the second part deals with depression and mental breakdown. There is a good background score by Wagner, the cinematography is good even though it does seem amatuerish in parts and the acting was brilliant from all, at 2 hours and 15 minutes the film can drag on, I wouldn't say it's recommended to watch on the other hand view it once and see how you feel.

I'd never thought i would say these words again...gonna try to watch Antichrist...again

Anti Christ. 2009.

After loosing their son in a accident, the couple retreat to a cabin to repair their broken marriage and the husband who is a therapist to analyse his wife and help her with grief.

Think this is the third time seeing this and I think I have the meaning of the film and hopefully it will make sense, first of all Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsburg show their true acting side as they play the couple in despair, and as they progress it seems like nature is turning against them. The way Lars Von Trier shows this is people turning their backs to religion with the death of their son and stuck in purgatory, the wife seeing grief around her and not until the end he sees the grief she saw with the blurred faces of women who suffered grief in one way or another and female nature is evil.

I wouldn't go as far to say that the film displays torture porn but asking to be slapped thinking they deserved it would show problems in the mentally of people and the wife thinking her husband will leave her. The two main bits people may remember with the piece of wood and the scissors...yes I still got uncomfortable as well as the start of the film.

I still had a bit of problem understanding The Three Beggars, were they there to symbalise the evil of women, Satan using them to carry their souls to him or was it part of a coven that sent the women at the end to the top of the hill as there was a death and they have been guided out of purgatory because the wife saw what happened to their son? The music background was a bit depressing but look at the tone of the film, saying that this film was better than The House That Jack Built.
