The Client (1994)

Decent but unspectacular take on the John Grisham novel in which Brad Renfro witnesses a mob lawyer taking his own life. Under pressure from both the mob and the FBI he turns to Susan Sarandon's lawyer for help.

As much a crime thriller as it is typical Grisham legal stuff, the film has good performances from Sarandon, Renfro and Tommy Lee Jones as the federal attorney, not to mention a scene stealing cameo from Ossie Davis but it lacks the emotional impact of A Time to Kill and the slick pacing of The Firm. At no point was i ever really gripped but it was watchable enough all the same.

NAKED GIRL MURDERED IN THE PARK
First of a Giallo double bill, this one sees an elderly millionaire found dead in a ghost train (!) having taken out a substantial insurance policy shortly before. So who’s after his money?
Ironically, for a film that features threatening phone calls, the soundtrack to this sounds like it’s being played down a 1970s telephone - it’s terrible!
Still, the picture quality is good and is certainly an improvement on previous cut bootleg releases.

CRAZY DESIRES OF A MURDERER
A group of friends stay at an exotic castle, owned and inhabited by various odd characters. Parties, drugs and bedhoppings ensue - meanwhile someone is committing murder and gouging peoples eyes out with a scalpel.
I first came across this one back in the day via Redemption VHS. I enjoyed it then and enjoyed again now, even more so as part of Vinegar Syndrome’s wonderful Forgotten Gialli Vol 3 boxset.

KING OF KINGS (1961)

Epic story of the life of Christ. This movie takes a different path in that a lot of Jesus ministry is not shown but talked about by others. In fact, you could say that Jesus and the disciples are secondry in this movie to the story going on around them. Another great score by epic music man Miklos Rotza.

Unhinged (2020)

An entertaining if daft as a brush exploiter starring an unrecognizable from last weeks viewing of Cinderella Man, Russell Crowe, as a slightly unstable chap who has a bit of a road rage incident with a woman driver at an intersection.

Think a more deranged version of Spielberg's Duel crossed with Falling Down (1993) Unhinged is always lively and a lot of fun but it's impossible to truly take seriously even though Crowe is hugely enjoyable in his madness.

I just know this is one i'll return to in the future.

Nicolas Cage in a restrained role who plays who plays Cameron Poe a ranger who is released from prison after accidentally killing a man defending his wife and is looking forward to meeting his young daughter for the first time. Of course things don't go as planned when the plane he is on is taking over by the prisoners led by Cyrus the virus ( John Malkovich) . None stop action, cast also includes John Cusack as a FBI agent, Ving Rhames, Colm Meaney, Monica Potter, Danny Trejo and Steve Buscemi as surprisingly likable psychpath. Switch off your brain and enjoy the ride. 8/10

Next up

I remember seeing Con Air on National Cinema Day (When it was a 15 certificate) Love it so much that I watched it twice on the day I bought the video. It makes me so nostalgic for the 90's

Sudden Death

Jean Claude Van Damme tries to stop terrorists from blowing up a Ice hockey Stadium during Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Classic Van Damme film, exactly what I want from this type of film.

Jaws 2

Roy Schider is back in Amity as his another Shark, which takes up where the last one finished, again the Officials ignore his advice. Very similar to the original.

8mm

Nicholas Cage is hired to investigate whether a 8mm film is an actual Snuff Film. Along with Joaquim Phoenix, he investigates the underground pornography scene. Dark and disturbing as it should be, Certainly not a film you get from a mainstream company (Colombia Pictures)

We have an all star cast, granted many are at the end of the careers here, but it's still a huge cast of well knowing names. After a luxury liner sinks , the surviving passages are lead by a priest( Gene Hackman) who doesn't like god. The effects haven't aged well but it's still very enjoyable thanks to cast. 7.5/10

It might be 4 hours length but didn't feel that long, it's a huge improvement over the original (which wouldn't be hard) and actually feels like a movie and not just some action scenes coppled together , we have more backstory for both Flash and Cyborg making them both a lot more interesting as they came off pretty boring and lame especially cyborg before. We have some major changes to Supermans role and the effects are a huge improvement . The epilogue is a little confusing, and sets up for a number of spinoff movies and a sequel ,but at this point it's unlikely we will see any of them. Worth a watch its still all quite darkly shot and as usual for Snyder a overabundance of slow-mo! 8.2/10

Now watching .

So it's basically Crowe playing himself!
