Spookies. 1986.

A group of people looking for a place to have a party stumble into a house that is owned by a warlock who kills them with his creatures known as Spookies and uses their souls to resurrect his beloved bride.

This film daft as it sounds is still entertaining, the acting is never great but more comical, there is some good visual effects and creative minds with the creatures even the little goblins and farting zombies. The picture quality is alot better than the vipco dvd release i had and and sound is alot sharper, so 101 did a decent job 15 quid well spent.

I'm gonna rewatch this again tonight. I have a long 12 hour shift ahead so this will do nicely.

I watched part 2 the other night and have came to the conclusion that I like the documentary better in that one but the actual films are more interesting in the original.
This box set is the main reason I decided to start a collection.

I remember seeing a full page advert for Omega Syndrome in a magazine that my Video Shop did advertising that month's releases. I believe New World distributed it.

Machete

Associated with the Grindhouse phase of the 2000's that sees Danny Trejo as the Federale who is set up when he's forced to assassinate a Politician, played by Robert De Niro and Steven Segal plays Machete's arch nemesis. Bloody in places, which fits into the whole Grindhouse aspect as well as the obvious body double for Lindsey Lohan, you can tell it's a different person as you could see a different face. Not bad but not essential viewing.

102 Dalmatians

After undergoing an experimental treatment program that inevitably fails, Cruella De Ville goes back to her old ways and tries to get her Dalmatian coat using the puppies fathered from one of the puppies of the 1st film. Again not bad but not essential.

The Tin Drum. 1979.

Oskar is given a tin drum for his third birthday, one day he decides he doesn't want to grow up and throws himself down the stairs and stops his growth. When the Nazis invade his home town of Danzig, Oskar continually beats his drum in protest of what's happening around him.

It was great to watch this film in the full German release rather than the heavily edited version I saw, even though it caused a stir with what people saw as child pornography which the director did state how things were done and settled a lot of minds about it. Even at 163 minutes the film is still over the place to the fact some bits don't make sense in some areas but there is some comical moments.

David Bennent plays Oskar and also narrates from his birth all the way through and shows how happy he his with his tin drum and the rise of the German army who invaded Danzig and his first true love and joining a small circus troupe. The film is mentioned in 1001 movies you must see before you Did, yet it may not be for everyone.

In A Stranger's House (2017, Richard Waters)

More FF. I only mention this one as it features a Welsh bloke housesitting

Oooooooooooh terrifying I hear you all mutter
The "set" ... surely some more than trusting Auntie's abode/summer home .... as it screams aspiring lower middle class ahem, reminded me of Ghostwatch in parts, but only in passing really. The usual aural tricks come into play. AND the cats were cute etc.
I digress.
I kept thinking of a FF with Judith Chalmers in the same situation , which isn't conducive to total immersion in the suspension of disbelief ahem.

Next?

Catskill Park (2018, Vlad Yutin)

Some rules of FF.
Never go on holiday anyway, but if ye must, then ....
Always take a compass.
Never ignore local knowledge.
Always travel with agreeable companions.
Always treat any resting places you find with restraint and respect.
When buying/renting a new house, always check its history, back to the Cretaceous period should suffice.
When investigating any indoor phenomena, bring plenty of independent light sources.
Always remain calm.

Ahem. The flick itself was reasonably effective, with the usual provisos this genre subtly enforces ....
