The Nesting. 1981.

A writer suffering from agoraphobia rents a house unaware of the past it has and begins to feel haunted by the previous inhabitants.

This is one movie that I do return to every once in a while, it is outdated with a lot of things but at least there is one good decent death scene in it and the late John Carradine showing his acting skills while telling the back story to the house in question. The film does start off well and promising with a character having a creepy laughter but dwindles out slowly to the end but the mystery of what happened is played out well even though it does drag on.

Cougars, Inc. (2011)

18 year old Sam (Kyle Gallner) is seemingly at last chance saloon when he ends up at at a Californian school where the principal (James Belushi) gives him a break. Hearing soon after that his mother can no longer afford to pay his school fees, Sam goes into a decline until he meets an equally down and rather wealthy Alison (Kathryn Morris) in a bar and the two have an affair. Out of sympathy for his plight she leaves him a cheque for $500 which gives Sam an idea of how to make enough to pay for his tuition - his own escort service - Cougars, Inc.

I'd forgotten this completely from my first viewing. Seemingly marketed as a high school sex comedy this has a lot more going for it than merely idiotic hijinks of which there are none. It might sound like a school boy's fantasy but it also delves into issues of infidelity and the way escorting impacts on actual relationships. Rather than out and out crudeness this is a charming and at times melancholy movie that when you get to know the characters ends up feeling bitter sweet. If you're expecting a Stifler's Mom type film then this isn't the movie for you i'm pleased to say.

Gallner is decent in the lead and his relationship with fellow student Courtney (Sarah Hyland) is nicely written but it was the older actors that really made the movie for me. Kathryn Morris was simply lovely and had beautiful chemistry with Gallner whilst fellow 'Cougar' Denise Richards had me laughing several times with her, let's say, industrial language. Meanwhile Jim Belushi is simply awesome as the school principal and... (No spoilers) coming across more like the fourth member of ZZ Top (name checked) minus beard than any stuck up headmaster.

I must also mention the soundtrack from Grammy nominated Cisco Adler. It was rather cool in a grungy Guns N' Roses type way subtle and never over stated yet still loud enough to hear.

It's only real flaw for me was the fantasy that gorgeous forty somethings like Morris, Richards and Rebecca Mader despite their failing marriages had to resort to high school guys to get laid.

When i began typing i was only going to say a couple of lines but there you go.

Invoked (2015, Humberto Rosa / Thairon Mendes)

Irish set FF. This being one of my more favoured efforts, if only because they seem like real people ahem.
A group of 20 somethings gain access to a disused hostel in order to get wrecked and fornicate. A seance seems like a natural end to the evening so it does ....
A local legend recalled casts the die.
Reasonably creepy in places.

Shriek Of The Mutilated (1974, Michael Findlay)

Dug this one out to revisit after I remembered Adlum's involvement after enjoying IOTBF last week.
A group of students follow their tutor into the woods to search for ... something hairy. No, it's not porn you foul buggers
A joy to behold as it's about as crazed as it gets imho.

Paul. 2011.

Two English nerds travelling in America for Comic-Con encounter a alien that's escaped from Area 51 called Paul.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team up for the science fiction comedy that after the first 20 minutes I ended up with tears in my eyes and a bad case if the hiccups. Seth Rogen does a brilliant job as the voice of Paul and Jason Bateman as the man in black searching for 2 English guys, one devout religious woman and a alien in a R.V. while Sigourney Weaver plays "The Man" from Area 51. Think every nerd wants to have a encounter with a alien like this that can make people laugh and get out of being chased by two guys who think they may get probed.

Les Miserables

Not the Musical but the French Film which tells the story of a Police Unit dealing with criminal elements but one rash act causing a ripple effect. I heard good things about this one and whilst I found it enjoyable, I thought that the finale was going to be more of a focal point of the movie.

Harold And Kumar Get The Munchies

After an evening smoking Weed, Harold And Kumar decide that only going to White Castle for an insane Meal Deal will do, It doesn't go according to plan. Recently I found films that I enjoyed when they first came out (Ace Ventura, Rush Hour, Scary Movie) not as good when watched recently, this is still madcap but still enjoyable.

BeerFest

Film starring The Broken Lizard Group (They apparently were thing in the 2000's) where they participate in a International Underground Drinking Competition. Whilst it's long for my liking, if you can get it cheap, then it might be worth an investment.

I actually saw Total Recall at the cinema. Saw it in a sadly long gone old style hall cinema called The Grand in Nelson, Lancs.
