THE BRUTE ( 1977 )
Controversial movie about domestic violence sees Julian Glover’s appalling treatment of his wife, Sarah Douglas.
It’s uncomfortable viewing at times ( and so it should be ) and has some shocking moments, including a non violent scene early on in the film that really jumps out of nowhere.
Excellent performances all round and accompanied by excellent bonus features.

THE DEVIL’ S MEN ( 1976 )
A group of young people investigate supernatural goings on at a remote Greek island and encounter devil worshipping, sacrifices and… Peter Cushing.
Donald Pleasance also stars as a priest with a dodgy Irish accent.
Having seen this years ago, this is the first time I’ve seen the full uncut edition, though the alternate shorter cut is here too.
It’s not the greatest 70s UK horror you’ll see ( and certainly not the worst ) but it’s enjoyable in its own way - and Indicator’s Blu Ray release looks stunning.

Day off so I started early

The Pumaman (1980, Alberto de Martino)

So what the lead is actually a lawyer, you get Donald Pleasence in a Cenobite costume, some truly awful "FX" and dialogue, what more could you need?
Ahem. A hoot. Sod Marvel, I'll stick to this. Now where's my copy of Doc Savage: Man Of Bronze??

Loving that poster art. A Death Star hovering over London. Nice.

If that doesn't happen in the film then goddammit i want my money back.

I own the older Lionsgate blu-ray. I've read that quite a few people's discs were affected by bronzing and would no longer play. Because of that, it's probably risky to buy a second hand copy. Luckily my blu-ray is still fine.

Free Hand for a Tough Cop (1976)

An excellent poliziotteschi in which maverick cop (Aren't they all?) Inspector Sarti- an excellent Claudio Cassinelli - breaks a career criminal (Tomas Milian, playing Monnezza aka Garbage Canfor the first time) out of jail in order to help him track down a dangerous band of kidnappers of a seriously ill girl, lead by Henry Silva.

As gritty as they come, Free Hand for a Tough Cop is a great example of Eurocrime from the seventies. It's fast paced violent fun, complete with shoot outs, crazy fist fights and some fine car chases. Umberto Lenzi once again proves more adept at crime than with horror and even laces proceedings with some delicious black comedy with Milian and Cassinelli on top form throughout.

The blu-ray from Fractured Visions looks great with many outdoors scenes as though looking through a window. I have heard some be negative about the image quality (Hello Blu-ray.com) but maybe you shouldn't watch 2K movies on a ****ing wall sized projector screen.

Arachnia. 2003

A small group of researchers and their professor's plane crashes in the middle of nowhere and seek refuge and help at a small farm house and are soon besieged by giant killer spiders.

Since Kingdom of The Spiders, The Giant Spider Invasion, Arachnophobia, Eight Legged Freaks and Spiders, Hollywood seem to try and throw out plenty insects movies, this one plays almost homage to the 50s B movies. None of the cast will get award for their acting even the two women half naked in a bed, but director Bret Piper went back and used Stop-Motion for the spiders in this, this isn't the best film but entertaining to pass some time.
