The Driver. 2019.

A man tries desperately to keep his daughter alive and find safety during a zombie apocalypse.

This was a different zombie apocalypse film that almost felt like State Of Emergency, there is somewhat of a horde of zombies at the start then they seem very far spread out. Father and daughter Mark and Noelani Dacascos play the lead trying to find Heaven, a safe community up north which starts the character build up. Mark Dacaascos manages to keep this entertaining and not become totally slow and boring. There does seem to be a slight same background score in this that almost resembles Herzog's Nosferatu film.

Woodchipper Massacre (1989, Jon McBride)

Actor/producer/director? Check! SOV? Check!
Some fun here when 3 kids are left in under the aegis of an elderly relative.
Rivetting I can hear you all scream
She is a real martinet and has fixed ideas about what exactly young people are allowed to get up to in the 80s.
Sadly when something for one of the kids arrives in the post, events takes a darker turn ...
This one was a hoot. Somehow a grown adult isn't able to look after his two siblings?? Hmmm. The older antagonist is clearly someone wearing a wig
Decent print on the YT, so find out for yourselves ... if you dare

Death Moon.

A lawyer is having nightmares so decides to goto Hawaii for a holiday , which is a bad idea as his dreams are part of a curse put upon his family decades ago on Hawaii.

When the moon is full he turns into a werewolf and goes on killing spree , really quite uneventful with werewolf transformation that is out done by the Wolfman.

A group of people come after a stash of diamonds but thiers one big problem it's guarded by zombie's.

The zombies just look like people with seaweed draped on them, but enjoyed this and at times it was quite eerie.

Always enjoyed this , it's quite atmospheric in places , a man comes too a small island to bury his farther , the locals aren't very found of strangers he soon finds this is partially linked to his farther who was investigating ruins under the local church which is supposed to have the grave of Hannah Queen of the Vampires.

Dominion. 2005.

Father Merrin travels to Africa after abandoning his faith and uncovers a church buried and leads him to his first encounter with the demon Pazuzu.

The first prequel made to The Exorcist that was somehow rejected, re-written and directed by Renny Harlin after Paul Schrader was fired, this is the second time watching this version (prefer Exorcist: The Beginning). This version seems to focus on Merrin's doubt and faith about religion and god after the events in Holland where as The Beginning focuses more towards scares and horror of the story.

The acting in this version is not the greatest, the Nazi officer isn't really quite intimidating as much as the officers were back then. Not sure if that was deliberate so nobody reflects on what happened back then or poor choice in casting? There is some CGI effects used and does look a bit naff, the final confrontation could have been a little bit more better and possibly lasted longer than what it was. Think I will warm upto this version slowly.

The very last movie watched on my Cambridge dvd player of eleven years. And what a way to go out!

Trick r' Treat director Michael Dougherty really knows how to frame a shot and although the movie is a CGI FX fest Dougherty gets so much more out of the medium than the majority of blockbuster directors. How best to describe it?

Godzilla: King of Monsters is like every great heavy metal album cover from the 80's brought to life in a motion picture. It was an absolute joy for these eyes to take in. I haven't seen the first Godzilla film but understand there wasn't much monster action during the first half, well that's rectified here with the monsters or 'Titans' as they are referred to, in action from the beginning of this two hour film. All the titans looked impressive especially the three headed King Ghidorah and of course Godzilla himself.

For what in other less capable hands i'd be suggesting this was a CGI shitfest this movie has a strong cast of acting talent such as Vera Farmiga, Zhang Ziyi, The West Wing's Bradley Whitford, Charles Dance who is seemingly morphing into Christopher Lee in his later years and the always excellent Ken Watanabe, meaning all the scenes without Titans are as engrossing as those with.

I really wasn't sure what i'd make of this movie but took a chance on it and it was a chance well worth taking. I loved it.
So, watching again but this time on Blu-ray - I double dipped on it soon after getting a Blu-ray player - and everything i said still stands.

It remains an eighties heavy metal album cover come to life via a QLED tv screen only this time i heard the action via Dolby Atmos full surround sound at ear splitting levels.

A fantastic audio visual experience.

Island of Death (1976)

Arrow's Blu of Island of Death is lovely to look at (As was the dvd truth be told). The picture quality was superb, perfectly showing off the sparkling blues and contrasting whites of the Greek island.

The sound though isn't crystal clear and often came across as muffled or low in the mix especially during the early scenes.

As for the film itself? Probably best just to talk about the AV quality as Niko Mastorakis' Mykonos set movie is an exercise in depravity. It's not the goriest film ever classed as a video nasty but it's certainly one of the most mean spirited with it's pretty relentless torrents of degradation which kick in after about ten minutes and continue until the film abruptly ends 100 minutes later.

Creature From The Black Lagoon. 1954.

A crew travel to the Amazon for a archaeological dig and find something lurking in the water.

50s "Something lurking in water" theme film that like other films made after it still holds to be a favourite for some of us with the good underwater shots and monster costume that seemed to cost more than what it would today. Ricou Browning and Ben Chapman play the creature one for the underwater shots and the other for on land. The writing for the film seems a bit dated but the acting still manages to make it entertaining.

The Specialist. 1994.

A woman hires a bomb explosive expert Ray to take out the mob family that killed her parents.

The 90s seem to be the year for Stallone films, after Rocky V and the two so called comedy flicks then went back to action movies, I still question why he did Judge Dredd, before that film he did this film, which seemed to be a hit and a miss.

Stallone stars opposite Sharon Stone who somehow knows Ray does no trace clean bomb kills, is old age creeping up on me or did Sly mumble most of his dialogue? If May saw Eric Roberts and his crew take out her parents when she was a child, then what is his secret to still looking younger, the guy never ages in this film. Rod Steiger plays the Miami Don and although looking old he is still able to keep control over bickering moments. IMHO James Woods manages to keep this entertaining as the ex C.I.A no head of security for the mob and manages to loose his cool at moments.

The explosive moments are well done and even though fabricated especially at the hotel bombing, but goes to show these scenes were done with old school effects that makes it entertaining.
