started with L.A Confidential, i'd seen this before but never really watched it, wow is this film awesome, Crowe is bang on and im not usually a fan of his, Spacey brilliant, Guy Pearce is really good in his first hollywood outing and Basinger is lovely and the whore. Really great film.

Then i watched McQ starring John Wayne, this was also a pretty awesome flick, more intone with bullitt than Dirty Harry but has two great car chases the final one across a deserted beach.

Finally watched Faster, the new revenge flick starring Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson and Billy Bob Thornton, this was seriously lacking something, it's the kind of film we expect the rock to make but there was a stupid subplot about an assassin that didn't fit with the rest of the plot, worth a rent but nothing spectacular.
Just watched Mission of the Shark which we mentioned on another thread. It is certainly a tv movie, the picture quality is fine once you get used to it after about ten minutes. The film itself is pretty good, decent effects and the acting is fine. I don't regret the purchase, it was well worth the £2.

"Here's a Health to the Barley Mow". As mentioned before this is a 2 disc set of rural dances, children's games and odd customs. My joint favourite release this year along with "The Life and Death of a Porno Gang". Stand out films of the set are the early silent shorts of morris dancers, with costumes so bizarre you'd believe they came from some lost tribe only recently discovered In New Guinea, "Oss Oss Wee Oss" which all fans of "The Wicker Man" should see for it's sheer pagan like weirdness in the modern world and the totally crazy "The Burry Man of South Queensferry" which is a bloke covered head to toe in burrs from thistles being led around the street for 7 hours without speaking, weeing or sitting down as people give him drinks of whiskey. There is something so alien about him, he's hard to comprehend with the rational mind. The film from which this set takes it's title is also pretty special as it shows the end of a culture whereby customers in a Norfolk pub sing and dance traditional folk songs and step dances in the early 50s. Get your clogs on, get to the shops and buy it.

The Jazz Singer(1927).The first talkie,it's really captivating to watch the transformation from silent to sound. Some find it sad because an art is dying ,some find it extraordinary because something new is ready to be explored or exploit. Not a masterpiece but very good

Hello sawyer6, there is some film from 1926 on "Here's a Health to the Barley Mow" which was recorded with sound. It wasn't until I got this set that I discovered sound was being used before "The Jazz Singer" but mainly to record musical acts and variety stage shows. Slightly off topic, my great grandmother used to play the organ in the cinema back in the 1920s.

Yesterday afternoon/evening I had a Blu-ray triple bill of:

Dead & Buried which has a great premise and some great death scenes. It isn't the most accomplished or scary horror film I've ever seen, but it's certainly one I'll revisit and then go through the three commentaries.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence) which manages to be as intense, gory and funny as the first time I saw it, if not more so. I really don't know why the BBFC thought the premise for this one was okay but the sequel wasn't as they're both pretty outrageous.

Se7en, which I first saw when it was released on video and have bought on every format since. This Canadian mediabook doesn't have any literature, but the DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track is outstanding and the HD picture, taken from the digital negative, is outstanding. I don't know why it's not generally recognised as a horror film given the content and some of the more graphic scenes.

I also watched Intruder on DVD, a film I hadn't previously heard of until it was mentioned on one of the artwork threads. It has an unusual blend of suspense, gore and some odd humour (including a reference to The Three Stooges) but, all in all, works very well and a re-release with an improved picture and more extra features would be most welcome.
