I thought the director was Gareth Edwards, not Grant, and that Monsters was one of the finest science fiction films I saw last year. It is a really involving road movie with quite incredible direction by a first-time director and, considering that he did all the CGI himself on his home computer, it looked quite stunning on a big cinema screen. It is one I'll rent at some point to see how well it stands up to repeated viewing.

I watched "Requiem for a Dream" myself recently on blu ray, hadn't seen it in a while and boy it still packs a "punch"! Great film!

Also caught "Bad Biology". LOL! I was hoping for a lot more as I had read plenty of stuff about it but it was really just ok.

Had a Rollin double-bill these past two nights, actually with the 2002 Dracula's Fiancée and the 1968 Rape of the Vampire.
Loved grapes of death but most of his output that ive seen is sleep inducing imo. sorry

Watched 13:game of death last night. Really enjoyed this one veering between gross and amusing at times with a neat double twist at the end.
Followed that up with timecrimes. Quite an ingenious little film but once seen feel it has no replay value but worth a watch.

Not really the right thread, but the posty today delivered my book

Art Of The Nasty

If you haven't seen it, it is a fantastic book! Tons of nostalgic sleeve art and write ups from the mad period. If I had a criticism it would be that there is too much on the section "Nice and Sleazy Does It". Soft porn and erotic movies don't really float my boat.

Oh, and it only cost me £12.49 including postage from Amazon UK.

Wow.

I thought it was the worst film I saw all last year. I HATED it. Passionately.

Grapes is my personal favourite, too.

Really enjoyed both of those - particularly Timecrimes; easily one of the best time travel related movies I've ever seen.

What did you reckon to the restaurant scene in 13?

Pretty hard to stomach TD... makes the live octopus eating scene in Oldboy seem very tame in comparison!

I don't think I could do it, no matter how well presented 'the dish' came!

I think there was an element of 'Marmite film' to Monsters with some people going in and expecting lots of well... monsters and others who were happy to watch the road trip through the 'Infected Zone' and the travails Involving the two lead characters who were beautifully played.

Oh my f*ckin God! I have just had to sit through

Hell Of The Living Dead (Zombie Creeping Flesh)

Well I remember see ZCF on VHS eons ago and remembering it being poor (and cut) .. but Christ on a bike is this film bad! I have more talent in my left bollock than Mattei has in his whole f*ckin body! I am not sure what was worse, the inept direction, the pathetic FX or the overdosing of unconvincing stock footage of wildlife!

Oh and I think, I THINK ... Mattei has seen Dawn Of The Dead!

Oh my God, I have just spotted there are extras on the DVD .... I can't turn it off quick enough. I feel dirty .. and not in a good way!
