Default Black Sun - Nanjing Massacre and Mother of Tears

Have just watched 'Black Sun' and 'Mother of Tears' and found them both a little bit dull - apologies to all Argento fans out there.

'Black Sun' tells the story of the Japanese conquest of Nanjing in 1937 through the eyes of a young man and two younger siblings. The movie was mostly the rat-a tat-tat of machine guns and screams of civillians. It made some attempt to teach history and make us care for the central characters but soon became the same scene over and over.

'Mother of Tears' didn't really do it for me either. I was expecting something much darker and more atmospheric (sim 'Susperia'). Also thought the end was a bit silly - too simple a weakness for such a supposedly powerful figure.

I'm a big Argento fan and what you say about Mother of Tears in my honest opinion...

...is too nice, I thought it was a pile of Dogshit. This is not the Argento we know and love, I feel that anyone who seriously claims to like this is either forcing themselves to like it because it's Argento or has no taste (this doesn't even fall into the so shit its good category, it's so shit it's actually shit )

Yeah it is great Bitch (boy that sounds like a put down for some reason! ). I would really love for Arrow or Shameless to release this, hence my suggestion for them to do so. Judging by Almar's comments on the thread, we may see it released yet!

Just watched the remake of

Green Hornet

I really enjoyed it .. mindless fun, switch your brain off entertainment.

However, it did feel more like The Pink Panther than The Green Hornet .. if you have seen it you will know what I mean.

Default What films have you seen recently?

THE ORDEAL - Belgian film
seen better, not a great film by any means

Oh by the way I think MOTHER OF TEARS is great!
Yes, it does have some crazy scenes in it and it didn't have the colours of SUSPIRIA and INFERNO - Argento said he wanted to change that
But I don't care what's said! - it's a gory horror and OTT, not Argento's best but an entertaining film nevertheless

Default Eden Lake

Have just watched 'Eden Lake' and thoroughly enjoyed it. Those kids were very believable and thought Kelly Reilly was excellent. Really liked the pace of the movie, build up, tension and a couple of shocks - the ending just made the whole thing more credible IMO.

There seem to be a few modern British horrors that deal with the breakdown of society/family (thinking of 'Mum and Dad', 'Dead Man's Shoes', '28 Days') and 'Eden Lake' hits the nail right on the head for me.

P.S. Inspector Tanzi - you had me worried there, thought I was in for a flaming!

I watched Eden Lake again a week or so ago and it (again) really impressed me with the direction, acting and intelligent screenplay. By '28 Days', I assume you mean 28 Days Later/Weeks Later and not the rehab movie starring Sandra Bullock!
