What Films Have You Seen Recently?

Two days ago, I had a double bill: Michael Reeves' The She-Beast followed by Cry of the Banshee of Gordon Hessler.

The first one I consider one of the best horror comedies ever - quite a few years before The Evil Dead (and with much more naturalness, if you ask me) and with my favourite subject to make fun of: communism. I will watch it again very soon - and have a good laugh for the second time. Highly recommended!

The latter is a very interesting entry in Vincent Price's long (and fantastic) filmography. I think it has some trouble with the pace for the first 50 minutes, but altogether it was a good film to watch - a very charismatic Price, an interesting approach to the witchhunting subject and nice cinematography. I recommend watching it together with The Witchfinder General by Reeves - those two flicks share as much similarities as they differ from each other. Note that John Coquillon (sic!) was responsible for the camera work in both.

Yesterday, I watched the original I Spit On Your Grave. Quite strong stuff indeed, and to be blunt: not very enjoyable to watch. But movies don't have to be funny or enjoyable all the time - if they reach you emotionally, they work. And this flick IS affecting you, I can guarantee. Nothing for a happy evening with friends, but a strong and really tough entry in the Rape and Revenge-genre. I despise self justice, but I can understand every single thing the leading lady is doing in this flick - and I say this as a male person who had quite an unpleasant feeling at one certain infamous bath tube scene; forget about Marat!

The original title of I spit on your grave was Day of the woman, which is far more fitting.

well i watched Haunted house of Horror again, still a great little film, and Bloodsucking Freaks with the eli roth com, can i say this does NOT change my opinion of the man though it is a good one.

and gag? theres a bit in Life and Death of a Porno Gang that really takes the biscuit, Srpski is a Bond film in comparison.

Thanks another film that i wont be watching..j ust think there certain taboos that should nvr be shown in a film in any circumstances and molesting a new born child is as sick as they come.. imagine up cry if some 1 did that in real life so we dont need it being potraid in films..ive said my piece ill leave it that and change subject ....

Just finished watching Enter the Void, the film which just didn't know when to end! Not only was I interminably bored after the first act, but my eyes now really hurt after all that damn flickering!

You can put me in the 'boring and pretentious movie' camp.

I've just started watching The Gravedancers, which looks to be a whole lot better.

Watching Beyond Re-Animator. Really put off by the fact that one of the actors in it looks like one of the Chuckle Brothers.

You've seen everything the film has to offer after 20mins. Then, it repeats itself. Again and Again. For nearly 3 hours.

The strange thing for me was that I like all of Noe's other stuff so it's not like I came to the party uniniatiated.

I'm amazed he managed to pull off all those fancy camera angles with his head lodged so firmly up his own...

Thirteen Assassins. Brilliant stuff. If it wasn't for the naked girl with no limbs scene, you could be fooled into thining Takeshi Miike didn't direct it. That man is always putting more strings on his bow.

I, er, watched "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" this afternoon. It's even better than I remembered and up there with "Mary Poppins".
