had a british sci-fi double yesterday with Village Of The Damned and Children Of The Damned. Both totally brilliant sci-fi films but i found Children to be the better of the two, still love them both though.

aye, COTD easily the "nastier" of the two.

Fahrenheit 451
god i love dystopian films. not as bleak as i remembered though, decent enough print, 1:85 enhanced etc, and decent enough features for a UK disc.

Peter Watkins's Privilege

A superb film that is wickedly satirical, scathing and absolutely hilarious in equal measures. It seems eerily prescient in an age where people revere the stereotypes of the X-Factor on the goggle box. The apple advert scene is hands down one of the funniest things that I've seen in aeons. A must see.

Bill Lustig's Maniac

After watching Winding Refn's Pusher with Lustig on the commentary the other day I thought it was high time to give Lustig's infamous Maniac a view, and lo and behold who should be introducing it, but Winding Refn.

Spinell is excellent as the deranged killer and I think that the obvious nihilism and horror is underpinned with some seriously dark humour, or maybe I'ma just a sick puppy? The effects are deservedly infamous and still stand the test of time although I think it's a shame that the head shot gets more of the glory than the finale with his vengeful victims, but hey, that head trauma is mightily impressive.
I think it'd make an absolutely perfect serial killer double bill with Gerald Kargl's Angst.

I watched for the first time Macabre and Mother Of Tears.Macabre was a good debut by Lamberto Bava and Mother Of Tears was decent ,from the reviews I've read I was expecting a piece of crap but that proved wrong

Yeah, two great choices there... Maniac is a fantastic movie - I first saw it via the Intervision tape and even after BBFC interference it was still great... Anyone seen The Last Horror Movie ? I've always wondered about this one...

Amazingly I've never heard of it. Gonna rectify that as it sounds pretty interesting.

It's a pretty shoddy slasher but has a mind numbing scene of big Joe doing the bump and grind as a stripper! A must own for that alone.

That's the one I was thinking of . I saw the title in the programme for the 2003 Cardiff Film Festival (first year at Uni), and for some reason the title has always stuck with me. From what I can remember it sounded like a Man Bites Dog rip-off kind of thing, probably rubbish . . .
