l_98504_0024188_b88c8e80.jpg Island of lost Souls A fantastic film. The make-up was so well done creating some very disturbing looking creatures. Charles Laughton is great and even tho Bela Lugosi is not on screen much he is still great also. How does it scrub up on Blu Ray? Island of DR Moreau Not too bad but after just watching Island of Lost Souls makes this film look total rubbish. Maybe i should of watched this some other day when the other film was not so fresh in my mind.

Rewatched The Wild Bunch, as paltry tribute to Borgnine. Also watched THC II again, lawdy it's still funny as f*ck.

LOST WEEKEND. Hopefully I wont get as much flak for loving this like I did for AVENGERS (which I still maintain is a fantastic movie) Excellent direction from Billy Wilder, who really crafts a film that refuses to pull its punches in its depiction of alcoholism and its tragic effects on the sufferer and their loved ones. RAY MILLAND is simply brilliant in this and his performance deserves to be shown in acting classes everywhere. The steelbook eureaka release offers a great looking and sounding print, an interesting intro from Alex Cox (though he does call Milland an American actor when he is in fact British) and the 3-part interview with Billy Wilder shown many years ago for ARENA. Highly reccomended. Also made me re-visit Millands underrated AIP Schlock-fest FROGS. I'm becoming convinced that his character in that is the older version of his character in LOST WEEKEND and all the frogs are a result of his DT's |

as regards to the 'Directors Cut' well Jean-Pierre Jeunet stated that the theatrical cut was his preferred version, he was pleased with it but of course the 'Special Version'. which I always watch anyway, had different opening and other added on and very good scenes |

The Piano Tuner Of Earthquakes - 2005 Ger/Fr/UK d: Brothers Quay A delicious and beautiful fable much as one might expect from The Quays. This is what good dreams are like. A superb film experience that left me sad that I do not have a visual imagination capable of coming up with such wonder. Amazing. |
