I was really disappointed by Cronenberg's recent "Cosmopolis". The simplicity of the central idea, a man making his way across central Manhattan for a hair cut meets many friends and acquaintances as the world around him seems to unravel, is well executed but the dialogue is over stylised and rapidly disappears up its own backside. While not to everyones taste I have really enjoyed Cronenberg's recent direction but in the face of the overwhelmingly positive reviews for Cosmopolis can I be the the first to point out "The emperor has no clothes". Perhaps this film will improve on a subsequent screening, but I can't see that happening any time soon.

Any one seen v h s and what are you thought on it,

I was a tadge tired when watched this so few things I didn't get,
The fourth story about the couple on web cam,
And during first half a quick constant flick to couple having sex and her asking if webcam was on,
And the ending boy is was just so shit,
Plus I'm not sure if I was listening properly at beginning of the film but what exactly they looking for yes I know a VHS film but of what,

Asking these Q.? Proves one thing never watch a film when you are tired ,
Because if only raises more Q than answers,
fuzzymctiger likes this.

I have it on bluray and its region free despite the A displayed on the back. Though the dvd disc that comes with it is region one. Didn't think much of the movie to be honest but its worth a look if just once. While watching it I was reminded of the Naschy movie Hunchback of the morgue. A better movie IMO.

- they were recording over his home porno movie
- they never really say exactly which tape they are looking for, just that they should take the tapes

All they said was a tape, and I guess the main guy knows what's on it, but won't tell, which is why they have to grab them all.

My guess about th 4th segment, the Skype call one, is that the guy was putting tracking devices in girls arms, pretending to be a state over, but is actually only a couple of blocks down, using ghosts to scare them and knock them out, then stealing Whatever alien fetus thing is inside them.

Bit weird IMO

Have you read the Don Delillo novel its adapted from? A lot of your issues with the film sound like they stem from issues with the source material! I'm just about to sit down and watch it, sort of skeptical the book could be turned into a film but then I remember Cronenberg's interesting take on NAKED LUNCH!

Hellraiser - Wow That was awesome. An amazing concept, a perfectly done horror, and the cenobites are the cherry on top! Also a VERY faithful adaption of the book, the only things different were the Females design (The original design would of had censors everywhere in uproar) and the engineer I think. But still, Doug Bradely IS Pinhead, and certainly steals the show, being the most awesome thing about the movie. Effect were great, especially brother Frank walking around with no skin, only muscle. Looking forward to seeing Hellbound, and MAYBE watching Hell On Earth, mainly for the Pillar Of Souls.

Dredd 3D - Took a trip to the movies last night with my brother to go see the last session of this. And again, WOW. Freaking AWESOME! Like a mix of Ghost In The Shell and The Raid, with bits of Robocop and Blade Runner in the middle. Amazing action sequences, full on violence, and great acting. The SlowMo scenes were really good in 3D.

Also the trailer for Gangster Squad was shown beforehand. THAT look amazing too.

MIDNIGHT. A bleak tale of sexual abuse and rural Satanism set in some of the most depressing looking countryside known to man. It seems to be set in it's own little sub-genre, post industrial rustic, of which personally, I think there should be more. After a blinding pre-credit scene the film settles down into a sweaty piece of exploitation before drifting off into a post "Easy Rider", stick it to the man, road trip complete with racist red necks and free spirited lead characters. It shifts gears again for the final third of the film and mixes up Satanism with TCMisms. The score is a great mix of electronic swirls and squiggles, Muzak and MOR synth pop/rock. However the film is dominated by it's landscape which acts as a malignant behemoth devouring all who dare to enter. My second favourite Arrow release after "Martin".

Excellent review MTDS! Really makes me want to watch it again actually; its a really curious little oddity an I'm really glad Arrow released it.
