Just finished watching it for the first time in at least 5 years and I still think it doesn’t deserve the hate it gets

An American Haunting (2005)

A semi-decent, semi-true 19th century set tale of the Bell Witch hauntings which revolve around a family who suffer a series of supernatural attacks, mainly on their daughter.

Whilst not especially scary An American Haunting is a well made film with a great cast including Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek which inevitably makes the film more watchable and a better viewing experience than something such as this actually deserves.

This was my second viewing and in truth i wasn't as impressed as when i first saw it when it initially hit dvd some 13 years ago, probably because this is now a tired genre in which hauntings and possessions have been done to death in the intervening years.

Thirteen Ghosts
A grieving husband, his kids and the sassy nanny move to their late uncles home. A glass building. An ex-employee sneaks in and discovers ghosts.
I liked this when I was 10 years old, I watched it when I was 20 and now.....well..... It's still enjoyable to watch and it has some decent set pieces. To be honest I think House on Haunted Hill was better.

Classroom 6
A group of obnoxious film students and a psychic investigate the disappearance of a student and teacher. So they do the logical thing of filming in the college and staying the night.
It doesn't really bring anything new to what is (and was in 2014) a saturated genre of horror. But it's not awful.
If you find it dirt cheap then I'd say check it out.

Killer's Moon (1978, Alan Birkenshaw)

As much as I love this film .. by gum it is flawed. A group of schoolgirls are forced to bed down in an off season hotel after their journey is unavoidably truncated. This part of the plot could go in any direction imo ... but the addition of 4 escaped mentals who are under the impression that they are dreaming ... puts paid to owt but horror. Unintentional laughs though.

Hiruko the Goblin
A teacher and a classmate unwittingly release Hiruko. An archaeologist and his nephew have to stop it.
It doesn't feel like a Tsukamoto film if I'm honest. It's great, but in comparison to the likes of Tetsuo; it's completely weaker. It feels more like a film Takashi Miike should have made.
