Killing Joan (Todd Bartoo) A mob enforcer seeks revenge after her employers choose to 'cancel her contract' .... this is an odd one. Mixing The Crow and The Darkness might seem like a no brainer ... but budgetary failings leave this trailing in the dust. Plus she seems to be channelling Brett Anderson fae Suede visually, which whilst unusual for this genre ... is offputting somewhat. Mate insisted I see this. I can see sort of why, as tis terrible on all levels.

CREEPY – A good horror thriller from the director of ‘Cure’ and ‘Pulse’. Retired homicide detective / psychologist is a bit weirded out by his new neighbour, whilst a case from the past looms in his mind. Lays on an eerie mood for its first half before going a little more ‘standard’ during the final act, but throughout this is engaging stuff that gets under the skin and into the marrow. Chimes in some ways with ‘Cure’ in that the killer and the general murderousness of it all have a slightly ineffable quality, and is definitely one to watch if you dig the director’s other films. THE WAILING – This well regarded Korean horror movie is a bit of a sit-me-down at two and a half hours, but it doesn’t feel like it. About a small-town cop who investigates a series of deaths on his patch – they seem to coincide with an outbreak of killer pox and the arrival of a mysterious man out in the woods. Things get a bit ‘Exorcist’ when his daughter falls ill. It’s so well put together that it flies past, leaving only an air of creepiness and faint tragedy in its wake. Appreciated how tonally it weaves black comedy and bleak horror effortlessly throughout. RUPTURE – Noomi Rapace is held captive by parties unknown in this slick torture-porn workout for the mainstream. It’s pretty gore-free, but it does include lots of imagery of Rapace being tied down and prodded by tormenters of the ‘sinister-medic’ variety. Normally I’d be a bit dismissive of something so lightweight, but it did seem vaguely entertaining despite the general predictability on show, not to mention its misuse of Rapace’s talents. The fact that they throw in some baffling sci-fi stuff about radical gene mutation endeared it to me, if only because it seemed like a ridiculous excuse for everything else that was ridiculous about it. A cheap ninety minutes of dubious ‘fun’ if you’re in a forgiving mood. GRIZZLY – One of those seventies horror flicks that stylistically seem more at home on TV than in a cinema (cue that specific sort of easy listening soundtrack music that always makes my hackles rise). On the other hand, there’s Andy Prine in it and a kid gets his arm ripped off, so it’s not all ‘Knots Landing’ with a killer bear. As you can probably guess, it’s a ‘nature attacks’ movie from the decade of ‘Jaws’, and basically does what it says on the tin. Alongside the cardboard aesthetics is a bit of gore and the aforementioned mean-spiritedness, but it’s mostly just a bunch of guys running around after a bear in the woods. Enjoyable, for all that. LIQUID SKY – A long-time Frankie favourite that I’m pleased to finally be able to catch up with on BD. Well, what can I say about ‘Liquid Sky’? If you find the term ‘cult flick’ too elastic these days, a viewing of this will probably recalibrate your movie gland. Aliens land in Manhattan and harvest the orgasmic chemicals of some downtown hipster junkies and fashion victims. That description makes it sound as though it might play out along similar lines to something like ‘Return of the Living Dead’ / alternative exercise in eighties quirkiness, whereas it’s more like a fragmented Euro art flick relocated to the margins of the NYC post-punk scene. Compelling stuff for anyone who likes their horror / sci-fi weirdness served up alongside bad early video effects and a ‘performance art’ style attitude, although it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. |

Well that's two hours of my life i will never get back, absolutely awful film badly written, paced and directed some decent acting and set pieces but that's it,the more interesting characters are killed early and the actor playing Han was badly miscast , granted no-one could replace Ford but this guy looks and acts nothing like the character we love, also be looks older than Ford in the first film!! 2/10 |

Rise of the footsoilder III pat Tate story . Its split between audience and let's face it films like these you ain't going to watch for the storyline and script, as long as its got some to some degree . If you like you're films action and violence then it's as good as it gets, Basically its just showing the side of he will stop at nothing and no one to get what he wants and if you cross his path then basically you're ****ed . And let's face it if he really was as bad as the film portrays and some people are then they are going to get what they deserve sooner or later. Because no matter how hard you are or keep your wits about you there is always someone bigger and harder somewhere and you can't be on your guard 24\7 I enjoyed it for the violence etc its strange how we hate people like that in real life and they deserve being banged up or in some cases dead because society can do without people like that , but yet we all have some fascination on real life killers\ dickheads \ drug dealers \ prisoners etc. |

Even Fulci thinks it's crap you know. He never worked with long time producer Fabrizio De Angelis after this. But as you say, as we've all alluded, to he's still a stylish director at this point. |

Death Game (1977) Perhaps the first "Home Invasion" film, as it was filmed in '74, but held back a few years. It stars Seymour Cassel as a well-off businessman, who is home alone on his birthday as his wife goes out of town with their kids. Not long after, two women, led by Sondra Locke, knock on his door, soaking from the rain, asking for dry clothes. Soon after, they convince the poor guy into a threesome in his hot tub., pissed off that the women are still there in the morning, he offered to drive them home. When he returns back to his house, so do the girls and the tie him up, mess his house up and torture him. Not a great film, by any means, but I laughed my arse off at the ending, which I'm almost certain was supposed to be shocking. Home invasion movies are one of my least favourite subgenres, but you might enjoy it if you're into that kind of thing. There's plenty of titties failing that, 5.5/10 Knock, Knock (2015) See above for my review of Death Game. This is a remake, with an almost identical plot, directed by the master of terrible cinema, Eli Roth. I didn't think it was possible for Roth to make a worse film than Hostel 2, but he's achieved it! This is by far his worst film I've seen so far. Nearly identical plot to Death Game, except with cringe-worthy dialogue, gigantic plotholes and wooden acting, Roth's trademark unlikable, asshole characters and Keanu Reeves. The introduction took 20 minutes ( Death game managed in about 5) and the ending is terrible, as is everything else in between. Not only is this the worst film Of Eli Roth's career so far, it's the worst film I've seen this year. I genuinely hated every second of this film. Death Game is Citizen Kane in comparison. 2/10

Perversely KK is easily my favourite Roth film. Mainly due to Ana de Armas admittedly ... I laughed till I cried. Frankie ... you can calibrate my gland any day ... . Kudos as always ... Trouble Is My Business (Tom Konkle) Modern take on the hardboiled genre. A PI is dragged into a maelstrom of deceit and diamonds. Stylized to the hilt (but nae in that headache inducing Sin City way), this is an amusing distraction. 15 min too long and all.
