The Meg (2018)

Absurd and fun are two words that sum up what is basically an old fashioned creature feature. The fact it has an A-list star in Jason Statham and cost $150m to make shouldn't come into it for this is Jurassic World in the water.

Yes it's full of cliches and rips off pretty much every Jaws film (Not including Jaws: The Revenge of course) but it doesn't detract from what is a big dumb movie that should leave you with a smile on your face... following a few jump scares naturally.

Battlefield Earth (2000, Roger Christian)

Once in a lifetime comes a chance to see a movie such as this. I've been sort of in a daze since I saw it. Or is it an coping mechanism? I feel the need to clear my mind ... here goes

This guy founded a religion?
Bog standard scifier. Not as bad looking as I expected ... though the story was nothing special ... redeemer emerges to lead Humanity free of alien overlords etc.
Next!

The Creature from the Haunted Sea 1961.

A crook sees a chance to make money on a island and escape by boat, he plans to kill everyone on board and blame it on the legendary Sea monster tale unaware that it does exist.

This has a blend of comedy, horror and WTF am I watching mixed into it. From Roger Corman comes a somewhat crime thriller to mix with horror and crazy ass costume for the creatures. The acting is OK but not at its best, writer Robert Towne does his best narration through the movie which is entertaining. 5-6 out of 10.

The costume was more convincing than the 1971 creature film Octaman.

House on the hill 2012.

A girl teams up with a private investigator to find a woman who has disappeared and tells her tale about filming victims while being tortured by Leonard Lake and Charles Ng.

Loosely based on a true story of the serial killers in the 80s and using actual footage that Leonard did recording his methods of why torturing and killing his victims. Aside from that the film was rubbish, the acting was slow, wooden and badly, only shocking thing was that I managed to watch it all the way through hoping it be better, I was wrong. Avoid.

Octaman wins hands down for me...and it's a better film in my opinion.

Boar (2017)

Aussie outback monster flick about a large wild boar on a killing spree. Stop me if you've seen something like this before.

For the most part i didn't dislike Boar at all. The creature itself was a huge beast, animatronic presumably as it didn't appear to be CGI, horns dripping blood and drool, and was, if i'm honest a bit rough round the edges, but found it far superior to an all too slick CGI beast. The acting was decent and t was nice to see horror stalwarts John Jarrett and Bill Moseley away from their usual psycho routines, both in fact playing nice guys and the Aussie scenery was terrific as always.

However what lets the film down in a big way was the script, despite some decent gory set pieces the film totally lacked any tension or suspense whatsoever meaning i watched and enjoyed rather than felt gripped by it all.
