The Pit and The Pendulum 1961.

16th century, Francis Bernard travels to Spain, to understand the death of his sister after she married the son of a cruel inquisitor.

With Vincent Price and Roger Corman you don't need a lot of blood and guts to make a good movie. Based on the story by Edgar Allen Poe, Price takes the role of Nicholas Medina who is the son of the Spanish inquisitor, who believes his father murdered his mother but in a cruel way. John Kerr stars as Francis who is optimistic about hie his sister died played by Barbara Steele. As with Corman, there is always dark gothic atmosphere and great cinematography by Floyd Crosby. Definitely one for watching.

The Agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of Despair. Poe.

The Chill Factor 1993.

A group of snowmobiles in a race take shelter in a abandoned camp unaware it was a site of satanic worshippers.

This was a bit of a messed up film, was decent to have the lead character to do a voice over, telling the story, but it was a bit slow and stop. The acting was a bit wooden and prolonged screaming before the killing. The way they are killed off was decent, but everyone has different tastes, make of this as you will.

I have just watched DON'T BREATHE, about a trio of thieves who break into a blind man's house. Then they get more than they expected.

I thought it was pretty decent and it was more thriller than horror. I would give it a 7/10 and the bloke who played the blind man was pretty good at it and turned out to be pretty menacing.

The 3 thieves were quite thick but overall I enjoyed it

Half Past Dead 2

This sequel to the Steven Seagal film stars rapper Kurupt and WWE wrestler Goldberg.

Kurupt gets transferred to another prison just as an inmate gets murdered and a riot starts. Goldberg and Kurupt can't act for shit but I think Goldberg was there for name sake... that's as much as I got from the film

Doom Asylum 1988.

When a man survives a car crash that leaves him disfigured, he makes an asylum his home and killing ground.

I don't think this film was to be taken seriously, the acting was never that great, the killings were not original and very 80s cheesy, the special effects and make up look very amateurish, there doesn't seem to be much plot and some goofs are very noticeable and some dark humour mixed in, but if you want a laugh and hear a different version of The House of the rising sun check it out

Neighbor (2009)

Gloriously dark humored descent into torture porn as America Olivo captures people and tortures them for ninety minutes.

Olivo is great, she commands the screen with a performance of maniacal glee and performs acts of mutilation and murder in gorgeous blood splattering glory. Whilst some of the depravity is sickening other parts are tremendous fun and reference horror from yesteryear such as 1972's Vault of Horror with it's novel way of blood drinking.

Despite the superb gore effects which on the whole look very realistic in their grim detail, the film does drag a bit in it's second half. When you've seen a guy tortured whilst tied to a chair for forty five minutes, to have the second forty five play out in similar circumstances does make it all a bit 'Been there, done that'. Still it's worth sticking with for fans of torture porn as you never know what act of violence will come next.

The unrated version is not for the squeamish. Seriously.

Dead of Night(1974)

Andy, a young soldier is killed during the Vietnam war. but later turns up at his familys home after his mother prays for his return. and although he looks fine and well, apart from looking a bit pale, his behavior is rather weird and barely speaks and spends his days rocking to and fro in a rocking chair.

Cheap and entertaining horror film from Bob Clark who did Black Christmas. with special effects from Dawn of The deads tom Savini, incorporating his usual orange looking blood from that time.
Richard backus who plays the part of andy does a good job in the role, and is rather creepy as the sort of zombie/vampire creature who needs to inject blood to stop from decomposing. and freaking out his girlfriend by turning up for a date wearing black gloves and sun glasses.

A good recommend. slow paced and very atmospheric. 76 out of 100.

I quite liked it D (The Watermen ...

Breeders (1997, Paul Matthews)

"It's time to prey!!" screams the tagline. Sci-fi horror hokum with the Samantha Janus . When a meteor lands in college grounds, it's up to the archetypal grizzled detective (Oliver Tobias) and a semi sleazoid professor whose name I didn't recognise to save the world.
The shot of Janus holding two shotguns (with her nipples clearly on view) is prime exploitation. So so pacing etc. Recommended? Aye, go on then

Scream

I still prefer his other 'meta' film. When a feted genre director finally runs out of ideas, he grafts the slasher flick onto his last decent idea (New Nightmare), with surprising results. Diminishing the spectacle of actually enjoying the cheap thrill of watching lunkheads die horribly by winking at you the whole time.
Ahem.
