To my horror here's another Blumhouse production that i really enjoyed.

If The Purge was a Blumhouse take on Assault on Precinct 13 / Rio Bravo then The Purge: Anarchy is Blumhouse's Escape from New York and Hard Target as a disparate group of people led by Snake Plissken alike Frank Grillo, try and find safety on the wild LA streets during Purge night.

Although not quite as gripping this is larger in scale than the first film with bigger and more spectacular set pieces and an enjoyable way to spend an hour and a half.

HACKSAW RIDGE (2016)

Incredible World War II true story of medic Desmond Doss, who refused to carry a weapon or kill anyone due to his beliefs.
Doss saved the lives of 75 soldiers by himself at the Battle of Okinawa.
An amazing story.
Excellent film.

Default The Happytime Murders. Split Second, Misery & Lethal Weapon

The Happytime Murders

Not a Melissa McCarthy fan but she's suited for this type of film. Didn't think this film was a huge success as I thought it could have been a franchise. I swear the puppet porn scenes were some of the funniest scenes I had seen in a while.

Split Second

Set in (Then) futuristic 1998 London which has been flooded due to 40 days and nights of rain, Rutger Hauer is on the trail of a serial killer that eats the hearts of it's victims. He is partnered by a straight laced detective Dick Durkin in this film which I enjoyed when it first came out but in 2020, unfortunately it's not as good. Such a shame.

Misery

Kathy Bates is absolutely amazing as the nurse who rescues author James Caan from a automobile accident. Bates goes from pleasant to psychotic with the greatest of ease and is fully deserving of her Oscar.

Lethal Weapon

I could watch any of these films in full anytime, they are so good. It's a shame that the TV series tarnished the Lethal Weapon name.

The Lost Boys. 1987.

After moving to a new town, two brothers discover that vampires exists and the older brother has fallen into the crowd.

This has always been a favourite of mine, even though Joel Schumacher screwed up the Batman franchise he did a great job with this 80s horror film. From a great cast 'The Two Corey's' Jason Patrick, Edward Herrmann, Diane Weist and Bernard Hughes as the eccentric grandpa with the rules and Keifer Sutherland. It does have the stylish 80s mullet hair, clothing (I miss the 80s) and great soundtrack. Shame the sequels werent great.

1990: The Bronx Warriors. 1982.

In the post apocalyptic New York, the Bronx is controlled by gangs and a self appointed government beurocrat wants the area cleared.

Italian/American film made by Enzo G. Castellari that is seen on the same wave length as The Warriors, certain gangs control certain areas but still entertaining even with a few viewings. There is well known actors in the film from George Eastman, Vic Morrow and Fred Williamson. The shameless release have included the fun facts that can be played during the movie which was interesting. The acting may not be great as well as the fight scenes but worth a viewing.

Default Honey I Shrunk The Kids, The Story Of Ricky, When The Wind Blows & Under Siege

Honey I Shrunk The Kids

Remember going to see this at the cinema as a child, still good even though some of the effects make it look like a Sinbad movie now but it was done in 1989. I fear what this remake would be like.

The Story Of Ricky

Live action Manga movie, Ricky is in jail but he has superhuman strength so he battles corrupt wardens and other prisoners. it's violent but the FX are so over the top.

When The Wind Blows

1986 Animation adaptation of a Raymond Briggs story. It's about a elderly couple who are preparing for a nuclear war and the aftermath of an attack. It's very powerful indeed. This is another of those titles and VHS Rental cover that gives me nostalgic flashbacks to my early video shop days. I feel sorry for any parent who just looked at the front cover thinking that it's suitable for a young child thinking it's like Disney movie.

Under Siege
Originally I was planning on watching the Jackie Chan film Snake In The Eagle's Shadow (I haven't seen this yet) but I realized I wanted to watch a trusted no brainer action movie and this is one of the best. You got Segal being Segal, Tommy Lee Jones hamming it up and Gary Busey playing an unstable psycho. Seriously what's not to like, for me it's the perfect sit back, switch off and enjoy Saturday night movie

The New Barbarians (Warriors of the wasteland) 1983.

Two mercenaries help people fight off a band of bikers after a nuclear holocaust.

The second of Castellari's warriors movie this one seemed to be influenced by another movie, and decent to watch. Fred Williamson playing something of a hero who has very little dialogue but let's his bow and arrow do the talking. George Eastman and Ennio Girolami play the bandits who want to be the 'Ultimate Warrior's'. Casteralli seemed to be on a minimal budget but made it look good and enjoyable.

Default Night of the Demons.(1988)

Night of the Demons.(1988)
How is it any party I went to back in my teen years
always ended up the same, me being sick in someone’s garden and every body else having fun. I mean why couldn’t demons ever invade my parents house when they were showing off their fondue and angel delight (which always reminded me of vomit). Then again I have never been to party with Linnea Quigley and judging by her past ,it’s bound to end badly. Demons ticks all the boxes for an 80s horror film, obnoxious teenagers, a slight nod to both goth and punk music, some mild nudity and some rather cool effects, but sadly missing any Birds Eye desert’s. I always felt Night of the Demons was a rather lesser rip off, of The Evil Dead, but over the years it has increased in my estimation. It has some gloriously gory moments, Quigley hiding her lipstick, a nice a bit of eye gouging (who doesn’t like abit of that) and a general air of manic madness, it cannot be any coincidence that the lead girl is dressed up like Alice in Wonderland. And while it does have it fault’s, a slightly lacklustre start and a rather annoying score over the chase scenes, it has that bonkers quality I measure everything with nowadays, rule of thumb it has to be bonkers or at least have a sherry trifle in it somewhere.
