Mad scientist concocts nefarious scheme? Check!
Hapless coppers dropped into the middle of something beyond their ken? Check!
Ninth tier psychodelic madness from you know who. My favourite year in cinema, it's easy to see why when I keep finding grotty treasures like this ....

Don't let the poster fool ya this is high grade schlock a go go.

The Power. 2021.

A young girl Val a trainee for a nurse takes up a position in a hospital in 1974 during the miners strike, she is forced to do a night shift and believes something supernatural is waiting for the darkness.

I was hoping this would be enjoyable as the plot had something going for it, it did have some tense and atmospheric moments, even with a good strong cast but felt it became a ghost story to a who dunnit movie with a twist. It was done at a steady pace but the last 5 minutes felt like a total let down for the film, not one I will go back and watch.

Goal of the Dead (2014)

Olympique Des Paris turn up in a small town to play a cup tie against a lowly fourth tier team. However as the game gets underway a genetically engineered zombie style virus leaks out and a football match turns into a fight for survival.

Hyped Here in the UK as Shaun of the Dead at a football match, this is a lazy depiction of the film. If i was to describe it i would say it was a horror film produced in the style of the excellent Taxi movies from the Luc Besson stable. Serious subjects broached with a certain type of laugh out loud humour which has a French twist rather than the lads down the pub approach to the English Simon Pegg film.

The success of the film lies solely with the writing as it certainly isn't a conventional zombie film - there is no flesh eating for a start. The script is so well written that even very minor characters appear to be well rounded and therefore memorable during the brief scenes in which they pop up. Billed as a film of two halves which is a play on the old football cliche of a game of two halves, the film makers don't disappoint. The first fifty or so minutes is all getting to know you chat among the team, fans and a couple of really funny tv pundits, this half boasts some blackly comical humour and is a pleasure to watch. Once the match is over the film stops we get some opening credits and the second half begins. It's totally unnecessary, but wholly original and a fun idea.

The second half of the film is run of the mill as various characters we already met in the first half, hole up in a bar and the fight for survival against the infected begins. Whilst the horror aspect is upped it really isn't anything new, the odd moment of laugh out loud humour aside nor is it scary.

On the whole Goal of the Dead is way overlong at two hours and falls apart when the horrors begin following a nicely scripted opening hour.

I actually watched Godzilla 2014 for the first time yesterday and I really liked it, Godzilla 2 is coming up, I bought them both on iTunes since they were on sale. Looking forward to it.

I'll probably pick up the 2014 Godzilla on dvd (or bd depending on price) when i next go to the supermarket. They seem to have reissued them recently with nice slip covers. (Can't think why )

Outcast. 2010.

A mother tries to protect her son by using magic to block his father from finding them by using magic of his own.

Set in modern day Edinburgh, the film has something of a low budget look to it, it does start off slow but once passed the 20 minute mark it does become interesting as you don't know who to cheer for, the protective mother played by Kate Dickie or the father who is on the hunt James Nesbitt. The film has the hallmarks of a good horror, tense moments, blood and guts, decent acting and a beast roaming the estate areas, will say this...Kate Dickie has a nice looking body.

I've added this too my shudder watch list tonight as it's sounded interesting was going to watch it but went with queen of black magic(1981).



a legendary solider who is trying to forget his brutal last and is running a small store with his niece is thrust back into the world he is tried too escape when his old commander kidnaps his niece and sends assassins after him. It doesn't seem to have much of a budget but that doesn't stop it have some fantastic and brutal fight scenes with the main charter putting John Wick too shame.



Always had a soft spot for this and was a regular rental thanks too it's artwork. Three robotic we security driods go on a murderous and bloody killing spree after a lighting strike, some great gore and lots of little nods too Roger Corman with posters for his films appearing around the mall and a appearance by that guy Dick Miller.




A very gory and enjoyable slasher that harkens back to the golden age of slashers, it's even shot in the way of a lot of them in the 80s. Basically a clown goes on very gory killing spree, by far the most disturbing thing in the film is the clown wear a pair of breasts it's chopped off and dancing around with them and it's meat and two veg hanging out! Think I will add it too this year's Halloween list.
