I like both Happy Birthday to Me and Switchblade Romance. As far as I'm concerned, the endings are just as satisfying and fitting as A Tale of Two Sisters, Friday the 13th, and The Others.

I know a lot of people feel differently though, especially about Switchblade Romance.

I'll Always Know What you did Last Summer. (2006)

I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer came as a nice surprise to me when i saw it for the very first time over a decade ago.

The film is set in a Colorado ski resort in the summertime and this makes a nice change. The director makes good use of the deserted ski lifts to add extra suspense and the mountainous location work adds bonus points for me.

Despite it being a second sequel none of the characters from the first two films show up, probably due to budgetary reasons, but this wasn't a problem, the cast of unknowns are an amiable lot, meaning you don't wish all of them dead from the first minute. The film ups the gore ante with a few nice bloody kills, the first two films were rather restrained in this area despite having an original slasher movie killer in the fisherman with his nasty hook. Plot wise, the film has a few tweaks but it follows the general ideas of the first film. Had they taken the Fishermen further it would have been interesting to see which direction he would have headed as in this film he does appear to be more putrefying zombie ala Jason Vorhees from Friday the 13th Part 6 onwards than any sort of human.

To sum it up. I'll Always Know What you did Last Summer won't change your world, nor will it go down as a great slasher film, however if you feel starved of multiple murders and slashed throats then it might just entertain you for a couple of hours.

The newish 88 Films Blu-ray looks okay but isn't a patch image wise on the two bigger budget installments that came previously.

MORBIUS (2022)

Sony Marvel's box office bomb!
To be honest, this movie could have been about any vampire. There is really no conection to the Marvel movies at all. The name Michael Morbius, a brief mention of a School For Gifted Children and a confusing mid credits scene involving The Vulture sent to Morbius world after events in Doctor Strange 2 and that's it.
So, it was actually quite refreshing. I had no problem with the movie and thought it was good. There were some scenes with close ups of Morbius face that looked straight out of the comics and I thought that was was really cool.
Due to box office failings a I doubt there will be a sequel although there could be a team up at some point in other movies.

During a break in at on old womans house the thieves find an ancient lamp but inside there is a Genie that escapes and kills the 3 intruders before returning to the lamp for the next person that runs the lamp and makes a wish. After the investigation on the house is complete the lamp makes its way to a local museum to be studied. The daughter if the museum owner tempers with the lamp and releases the genie but instead of granting wishes he possesses the teenager. While on a school trip at the museum she invites some of her friends and boyfriends to spend the night in the museum but this isn't some regular sleepover she only has murder on her mind.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one i wasn't expecting much at all especially when it started and the acting was so bad and i think the voice track was out of sync for some of the characters not all just some or maybe there discovered a very rare type of bad acting that tricks your mind into thinking they are out of sync

Even while i was watching this i couldn't exactly pin point why i was having so much fun with it i mean most of the kills the camera cuts away to a blood splatter i think there was maybe one time i saw a full kill without any cut away and that was nothing special but still it took nothing away from the fun. At times there was some great music and some great use of colour mainly during the kills the makeup effect looked pretty good and the Creature/Genie was pretty decent too so im surprised they didnt show the kills a bit better.

Fun film despite its short comings.

Last Action Hero

A young Film fan is given a magic ticket which allows him to jump into the Movie he's watching, which happens to be Arnold Schwarzenegger's latest. However the Movie's Villains obtain the ticket and go into the real world.

I was a Teenager when this came out and to be honest I thought it was alright but being older he was able to appreciate the nuances and Easter Eggs a bit more. However at over 2 hours, it was too long.

The Survivor

The story of a Concentration Camp Survivor who Boxed for the Nazi's and his quest to find his former lover. As with these types of Movies, it was powerful stuff.

Naked Fist

Jillian Kessner investigates the disappearance of her Sister. During this, she meets a man who is an Underground Fighter. Not a bad Film from it's time and got placed on the now 3rd tier of the Video Nasty List. Should be passed now.

Elvis

The Story of Elvis Presley and his partnership with his Manager, Colonel Tom Parker. A quiet enjoyable Film with some great performances from Austin Butler and Tom Hanks (Oscar Nominations upcoming) My fear was that it would be filmed, Arthouse style however whilst there was elements of it, it wasn't constant.

American Ninja 4: The Annihilation

David Bradley is sent to rescue some Soldiers from a Warlord however after he is captured himself, Michael Dudikoff is sent to rescue them all. Picked this up in the HMV Sale, it's a decent watch, if you've seen the others. There are some good ninja training scenes.

Yes there is, and here a interview where he asked about the 4hr cut, in short, maybe but it'll be some time yet before he considers it.

I can't even begin to conceive what a longer version of this would be right now. But the idea that there's a different riff on this theatrical version, that's years down the road. It's years down the road, but it's possible. But I can't underline enough, it's not tomorrow. It's years down the road.

My mate said they only touched on his Aloha concert which is odd considering how massive that concert was beaming all over the world the pinicle of his career so im sure that will be expanded upon.

The Brides of Fu Manchu (1966)

Practically indistinguishable from the first film in terms of plot - Fu Manchu wants to take over the world by kidnapping German scientists and forcing them to build a death ray for him otherwise their daughters will die in his dungeons.

All that really differs is that Neyland Smith is now played by former Sherlock Holmes Douglas Wilmer rather than Nigel Greene. Whilst Christopher Lee is good in the title roll of Fu Manchu the character seems extremely dated already with that Dr. Evil desperate to take over the world thing. So much so that Bond's debut outing Dr. No really does come across like a riff on the Fu Manchu tales at least as far as the fiendish villain goes.

There's some decent action and one or two quality fist fights between stunt doubles but this was too much like the first film to be truly worthwhile.
