It is when Reaper nicks your current one.

The only problem with your avatar, Bruno, is that it makes me wonder if "bdc" stands for "bony dental case".

Is the Raro edition of SLAUGHTER HOTEL worth getting over the Shriek Show dvd?

In AV terms, yes, but the film is pretty shit - a real misfire for Di Leo!

There is still a scene missing from the Raro version, but even so, it's better than the others out there. As with Just Before Dawn, there isn't currently a completely definitive version, but a couple of slightly compromised versions.

bdc 29th July 2011 06:14 PM

Both offer different versions of the film. ;)

I'd say so mate, but yeah I found it to be his least interesting film I've seen.:(

bdc 29th July 2011 06:40 PM

I like didn't like the sex scenes... :loco:
And the ending could have been a bit better...
But a decent gothic/giallo hybrid imho.
This kept reminding me throughout of Virgin of Nuremberg!

Gojirosan 29th July 2011 06:44 PM

It is worth a watch, and I have no intention of getting rid of my Raro disk, but Di Leo did much, much better and this reflects badly upon Slaughter Hotel/The Cold-Blooded Beast.

Pete 29th July 2011 06:47 PM

Thanks guys, I'll order the Raro edition. All I have is the 'orrible UK edition.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 29th July 2011 06:48 PM

Didn't even know there was a UK version!

bdc 29th July 2011 06:52 PM

The UK dvd version loses the sex,so I got it for that reason... ;)

I have 4 versions of this film on dvd... :loco:

It also looks like it was panned and scanned by a reluctant chimpanzee...no, that's unduly harsh on the skills of chimpanzees...

bdc 29th July 2011 07:02 PM

Yes that's true,it's pan and scan but it's a different version so I had to get it. ;)

I bought a copy of Asylum Erotica a few years ago from the sadly now defunct Music Zone. It was of a gorgeous vhs rip quality, i was searching for the Vipco logo it looked so bad.

I think if it was a Vipco release it actually would been watchable, as they seemed to make a tiny effort with their releases of Italian movies.

I own italian dvd's of Beyond darkness (La casa 5), Metamorphosis (Dna formula letale) and Deep red (Profondo rosso).
Beyond darkness and Metamorphosis are both on the Medusa label and appear to have been sourced from original film elements (however, the audio on Metamorphosis is VHS sourced).
Deep red is on the Platinum Media Corporation label and while it is an English dvd company, the only audio option is Italian along with English subtitles. The movie appears to be VHS sourced, but I'm not too sure.
Soon, I'll be buying Body count on the Quadrifoglio label. It has 2.0 English and 5.0 Italian audio options.

Funny, I just watched my bootleg of Body Count last night, and was lamenting the fact that the print (from a German VHS, I think) appeared cut. Is this Quadrifoglio version available yet, and do you know if it's uncut?

Many thanks!
G

It is available to buy, but I'm not sure if it's uncut. The running time of it is 87 minutes.

b.m.fruen 13th October 2012 09:01 PM

I've just found out that the release date for it has been moved forward to 24th October.

Some nice Italian DVD artwork for;
LUST FOR A VAMPIRE
DR JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE
HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN

Think I'll buy LUST.
All English friendly ;)

D'amato lives! 5th August 2013 10:07 PM

Too much to hope that the Beswicke commentary from the Anchor Bay US disc has been ported? No other release of Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde has been graced by it anywhere else and the US disc, poor picture nonetheless is well OOP...
